THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 271: A BEAUTIFUL ENDING
Chapter 271: A BEAUTIFUL ENDING
"Excuse me," she said, and tried to walk past him.
Ace blocked her, and dragged her back to the position she was before.
"Really? Excuse you? Is this how we’re going to end this conversation?"
"You didn’t even want to talk to me before," she snickered. "Don’t pretend now that any of this makes any difference to you. Besides, there’s something important I have to do."
"Fair," he bobbed his head. "Do I need to wait for you?"
"Do whatever you please, Ace. This garden is taking me down memory lane, and I doubt it’s something we both want to remember."
"No," he shook his head. "That’s where you’re wrong. I may have had unpleasant intentions bringing you here, but everything that happened in this garden meant more to me than you could ever understand. It produced Dream too, and she’s by far the best thing to ever happen to us. I’m sorry for how I hurt you, and I’ll apologize a million times if I have to. All I want to know is what the future holds for us."
"I don’t know Ace," she said, and walked past him.
This time, he didn’t try to stop her, or even go after her.
He had been afraid this day would come, and it had finally arrived.
Fay walked into the living room, and went to find Dream.
"Hey baby," she called, on reaching her.
"This candy tastes delicious, mummy!" Dream cheesed, snacking hard.
Fay ignored the fact she was ingesting a lot of sugar into her system late into the night.
"Listen, mummy needs to do something important, alright? Do you mind sleeping here tonight?" She asked.
"Okay mummy!" Dream said.
She kissed her cheeks, and turned around to walk away.
On her way out, she ensured to lower her head so she didn’t have to talk to anyone.
Her little plan worked, and soon she was driving out of the Atticus mansion again.
Fay did her best to keep her eyes on the road, but her mind was torn.
Finally, she reached an agreement with her soul, and grabbed her phone.
She dialled a number, and the person on the other end of the line answered at the first ring.
"I’ve been waiting for your call, Fay. It’s been a month. I watch the news everyday just to see your face. There’s still that sadness in your eyes. Why is that?"
"I remember," she said with quivering lips.
"What? You do? Do you want to talk about it?"
"I do. I mean I don’t know if it’s possible tonight. But I really do want to talk about it."
Thirty minutes later, Fay pulled into doctor Vera’s house.
The doctor was beside her the second she stepped out of her car.
"It’s raining Fay," she said, pulling her into the umbrella she brought with her.
Together, they practically ran into her house.
"Wow, this is where you live?" Fay said, looking around the mansion.
The doctor laughed. "Why do you seem so surprised? Because my office is a shared space?"
"No— I mean I guess." She shrugged.
"Sit down Fay," she said, as she stepped away.
Fay took a deep breath before seating on one of the couches in the large living room.
The doctor was obviously a minimalist, but managed to make it really cute.
She returned with a mug in her hand, and handed it over to Fay.
"It’s hot cocoa," she said.
"Thank you," Fay smiled, as she accepted the drink.
"So tell me, what do you remember?" The doctor dived in almost immediately.
"Everything," she said, taking a sip out of the drink. "To be honest, I’ve remembered for quite some time now. Over a month ago to be exact."
The doctor’s eyes widened with intrigue. "Why did you never mention anything, Fay?"
"Everything was happening so fast, and at the same time. I just didn’t think that it mattered that I remembered my parents. Big deal, right?" She sighed.
"Hey, that’s a pretty big deal, alright? You remembered your parents. That’s awesome! Do you want to talk—"
"No!" She laughed bitterly at her strong response. "I know this may sound crazy, but I kinda wish I didn’t. The accident? It was gruesome. Mum sacrificed herself to—" she shuddered, and stopped talking.
"I understand, Fay. But I don’t want you to feel guilty. In all of this, you’re the victim. You went through so much, as a child, and as an adult. The question is, do you want to put all of that behind you?"
Fay dropped the mug on a mini table beside her chair.
"That’s why I’m here. I’m ready to really talk about Ace," she said.
The doctor’s eyes lit up. "Sure Fay, please go ahead."
"He has matured a lot," she smiled. "I mean in his relationship with others, and me especially. He was going through a lot, but helped me seek justice against Xylon Bass after what the bastard did to me in broad daylight. I can’t explain how I felt when I heard what he did from Landon, his best friend," she smiled.
"Your eyes sparkle every time you talk about him. Even when you weren’t sure of your feelings towards him, you’re always different when talking about him," the doctor observed.
"I know right? So why can’t I relax in his presence? Why can’t I just tell him I want him, even after all the efforts he’s putting in? That’s why I’m here," she explained.
"Because you haven’t fully conditioned your mind to take that huge risk of getting hurt again, so you can move forward. You need a push. Something from the past that gives you a reason to want to try again. I think I know just what that is."
Fay lifted a quizzical brow, as the doctor rose to her feet, and excused herself.
Her fingers grew wobbly from anticipation a few minutes later, when she heard the returning footsteps of the doctor.
"Are you ready?" The doctor said when she appeared again.
Fay’s eyes went to the doctor’s hand. It was behind her, making her wonder what she was holding.
"I guess." She shrugged.
The doctor smiled, and brought the journal forward.
"Remember this? You asked me to keep it for you, until you’re ready to accept it. Remember he wrote about his feelings for you here?"
Fays mouth hung open, as she slowly rose to her feet.
She moved closer to the doctor, and took the journal from her hand.
With shaky fingers, she flipped the pages to the last entry, and read through.
Closing the journal, she clutched it to her chest, and turned around.
"Thank you doctor!" She screamed behind her shoulder.
"Anytime Fay! And wait, you need an umbrella!"
But Fay was long gone, not a care in the world if she got drenched.
She pushed the journal underneath her dress, so it didn’t get wet, as she dashed for her car.
By the time she got to her car, she was a little wet.
Still, in the heavy rain, she drove all the way back to the Atticus mansion.
When she arrived, she was going to run in again, but paused when she saw the umbrella Alexander gave her.
She smiled, and grabbed it, as she stepped out.
Her heart rate surged, as she went in search of Ace.
She knew the kids would be rounded up in a room because of the rain, whilst the adults would be gathered in another place.
On entering the main living room, she saw her guess was facts.
The adults were all gathered in the main living room.
"Oh My God Fay, you’re soaking wet! Do you need a change of clothes?" The matriarch asked in alarm.
Everyone’s curious eyes turned her way, as they wondered what was up with her.
"I’m fine guys," she let out a short awkward laugh. "Doctor Alexander’s umbrella came in handy. I’m not even that soaked," she said, and waved at him when she saw him at a corner.
"Fay, I’ve been looking everywhere for you. Oh My God, look at this!" Leighton screamed, showing her the ring Landon just proposed to her with.
"Oh my God!" Fay screamed in excitement, and hugged her as if she hadn’t spent the last month helping Landon find the perfect ring.
"Thank you," he mouthed to her from across the room, and she threw him a wink.
Still, there wasn’t any sign of Ace around the room.
"Fay gorgeous, come with me to get that dress changed. I don’t want you falling sick," Gabrielle suggested, as the two hugging girls pulled apart.
"Someone get my granddaughter a change of dress!" A drunk Seth was being led into one of the rooms by Colin, and the Martin guy
"Goodnight grandpa." She waved at him.
"What’s that?" Leighton asked, as everyone with the exception of the matriarch, and Gabrielle, returned to what they were doing.
"Oh nothing," she said, hiding the journal behind her. "Have any of you seen Ace?"
"I saw him in the garden, dearest," Marilyn, who had just walked into the living room, said.
"Hot drinks?" Alice who followed her in with a tray of hot drinks because of the sudden rain asked.
Fay smiled at the two women genuinely. One after the other, she kissed the cheeks of all the women closest to her.
"I love you all, but I need to find Ace."
"Go find him then, and tell him how much you love him!" The matriarch screamed after her, drawing everyone’s attention to her again.
She laughed, as she continued towards the garden.
On entering the garden, she didn’t find him immediately.
"No way," she muttered as she traced her way back to the spot they slept together that night.
"Do you see how heavy this rain is?" She asked the second she stepped in.
Ace, who was backing her, turned around on hearing her voice.
"Am I dreaming?" He blinked.
She chuckled, and moved closer to him. "I found this," she said, but quickly returned it to her body. "I don’t want it to get wet."
"How did you find that?" He asked, lifting a curious brow.
"Doesn’t matter, but I’ve had it for a while now. I needed it to remind me what I’ve always known," she said, as the rain fell mercilessly on them.
"And what’s that?"
"You’re my husband," she declared, causing him to laugh.
"What?"
"Have you forgotten? The first time you saw me, you declared out of the blues that you’re my husband."
He chuckled aloud. "Nah, I remember that. But it became real, didn’t it?"
"Oh it certainly did. I do want a realer wedding though. A huge one, so the world really knows I’m Fay Luxe Atticus," she said.
"And pray tell who you’re going to be marrying?" He said, taking a step closer.
She giggled childishly. "Don’t be weird, it’s you of course. It has always been you. It will always—"
He cut her off, as he bent his head, and kissed her sweetly.
When he pulled away, she was completely dazed.
"Will you marry me, my darling wife?" He asked, going on one knee.
Fay threw her head back in laughter, as she instantly recovered from the dizzying effect of his kiss.
"Yes, my darling husband," she replied.
He pulled her down with him, and as she fell on her back in laughter, he landed on top of her.
"This is crazy," she said amidst her laughter.
"I know, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love you, Fay. Only you."
"I love you too Ace. But I really don’t want this journal to get wet."
"Let it, we’ll just write new pages," he said, and kissed her again.
Under the heavy downpour, they made love in the same spot that created their Dream. And as they laid down in completion, with their heads nudged together, and their hearts beating in sync, the love they found in a hopeless place, bloomed.
