THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY
Chapter 253: DARK NIGHTS

Chapter 253: DARK NIGHTS

"Fay," he called her in a voice that projected caution.

"Ace Atticus," she replied.

He smiled at her responding with his full name.

"I know considering the circumstances, it may seem like I’m trying to get ahead of myself, but if I leave you tonight without saying this, I’ll never forgive myself."

"Oh," she sat up. "What is it, Ace?" She asked, worried lines stretching her forehead.

"I’m sorry for everything. For not believing you when I should have been fighting for you. For hurting you. For putting everyone’s feelings above yours. For not loving you loud enough. For being selfish. For my arrogance. I’m sorry for everything, Fay. And this doesn’t mean you have to forgive me. Absolutely take your time to sort out your feelings. I just wouldn’t have any form of rest if I didn’t tell you how sorry I am," he ended with a sober expression.

Fay expertly held back the tears that threatened to spill.

She had heard him apologize twice. First in his journal, where it looked like she was reading his words with his voice, and now, in person.

The sincere apology was what she had wanted for so long, and now she finally got it.

"I think keeping Dream safe is more important right now," she cleared her throat, breaking eye contact.

Ace swallowed, and nodded his head in respect of her decision.

"You’re right. There’s this house where I can guarantee maximum safety inside of it. Mostly because it takes forever to get inside, and anyone trying to sneak in would be caught swiftly. I’d like you, and Dream to stay there for a while. I know you have your schedules to consider, but if you could talk to Seth, maybe he’d help. You could tell him how much more unhinged Celine has gotten."

"Of course it’s all her," Fay hissed. "You know I saw her leave the funeral home, and there wasn’t any hint of mourning in her evil eyes. I couldn’t believe she could be that unaffected," she said, and with every word, grew angrier.

She couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that someone could let something as silly as an inheritance spark such hatred in their heart.

It was even more stupid when one considered it was just because of one company.

Why anyone would think Spades was the determinant of the most successful Atticus just sounded ridiculous to her.

The family had a fortune only rivaled by her grandfather, judging from how much she had seen.

There was literally something for everyone, but all eyes were on Spades.

"A penny for your thoughts?" He asked, watching the interesting way her expressions grew from mild irritation to utter disgust.

"I just would kill that bitch if she hurts my child. I’m not doing this back and forth, Ace. If she’s going to run loose, we need to get the police involved."

"They already are, Fay. I have evidence she had a hand in my father’s death. She knows I know, and that’s why I expect her to lash out in the biggest way before her inevitable downfall begins."

"And my child is who she thinks she can lash out on?"

"She’s the daughter of the man she hates the most in the entire world. I sadly represent what she’ll never legitimately have, and so does Dream. That’s why we need to be proactive about protecting her."

"Let her try to touch my child. I swear Ace, I’ll kill her first before she comes close to Dream," she swore, fire dancing in his eyes.

Ace knew he wasn’t supposed to have such thoughts, but seeing her maternal instinct in such display was a huge turn on.

Especially going that long with just the thought of her to get him by.

"I’m glad you feel so strongly about protecting Dream, like I do. So are you going to bring her to the mansion?" he asked, hope filled in his voice.

"We’d have to leave tonight. I don’t trust Celine not to have a surprise already waiting for us," she replied.

"Really?!" Ace’s eyes widened in shock. "But what about Seth? He has to know about this," Ace said.

"Does Cam know about this arrangement?" She asked.

"He does."

"And Landon?"

"He’s a part of it."

"That lying bastard!" She cursed jokingly.

He laughed, but when she threw him a fiery gaze, he composed himself.

"I wish I could have let you in on the plan, Fay. I’m sorry you had to mourn me when you had no reason to."

The fierceness in her eyes left, and was replaced by fascination.

"What?" He asked, catching the look.

"I just find it weird you have so many apologetic words in your dictionary. I didn’t think it was possible towards me, at least."

"You’re right. And I’m sorry."

"Okay, stop doing that. I’ll go tell my grandfather I need to leave with Dream. Have Cam pick me right here?"

"Sure. Sounds like a plan. Thank you for not fighting with me on this, Fay."

"How could I? She’s just as much your child, as she’s mine. Also, she misses you with all her heart. Do you know the night you were shot, she woke up with a scream. It was as if she knew. And when it was announced you had passed, she cried that night, but was chirpy the next morning. She said you had told her in your message you’d return. She refused to believe you were really gone."

Ace couldn’t stop smiling with every word Fay said.

"God I owe her the world," he said, when she was done.

"We both do. Anyway, I’ll leave now, and be back in the next ten minutes. Is that enough time?"

He was lost in her eyes, for a second there, he didn’t hear what she said.

"Ace?" She called.

"Sorry," he blinked. "Yeah, ten minutes should be enough. But like I said, I need to go do something, so I’d meet you both at the house?"

"Oh, okay. But Ace?"

"Yeah?"

"Are you going to be fine? You’re not planning on doing anything dangerous right? Dream just got you back. I’d hate for her to lose you again."

She couldn’t tell him she feared for him, so her best bet was using their daughter to project her worries.

"I’ll be fine. I promise."

"Okay," she made to leave, but turned back, and placed a kiss on his cheeks. "Be safe."

Before he could recover, she walked out of the car, and hurried away.

"It was just a peck, Ace," he spelled out the obvious to himself, because he didn’t want to get ahead of himself, nor did he want to misinterpret her actions.

He had already learnt that lust wasn’t love. He didn’t also want to learn that care wasn’t love.

That was just too many cruel lessons. Besides, the kiss had been more on his hairy face, than his cheeks.

"Yeah, it meant nothing, Ace."

Internalizing that thought, he nodded, and started the car.

"Lan?" He picked the phone the second he drove out.

"What have you been up to? I called you twice already."

"Long story, Lan. But do you have the coordinates?"

"Sure. They’re enroute to Spain," he replied.

"Great. And the number I asked for?"

"Check your messages, Ace."

"Fine, no need to be sassy about it," he teased.

"You do realize I left your funeral hastily, right? Your mother probably suspects foul play. I know Leighton does."

"I’ll make it up to my mother when the time comes. And for Leighton, I could just build a hospital for her. How does that sound?"

"All your accounts are frozen, genius," Landon mocked.

"Landon, are you by any chance mocking me?"

"Hey, I can’t hear you. I have to run."

He ended the call, and Ace chuckled. Taking a deep breath, he stopped the car by the road.

Searching through his phone, he found the number he needed.

He called, and David Duke picked up in a heartbeat.

"I didn’t think you were going to answer this fast," he said.

"Who is this?" David asked.

"I don’t want to play any games, so I’ll just go straight to the point. I have proof that Celine Atticus interfered with the election results. She worked hand in hand with the kings. I’ve sent everything you need to your email, video evidence too."

"Who are you, and what do you want in return? I know you’re not just doing this out of the goodness of your heart."

"Of course no. In return, I need a favor only the president can grant. Using your proximity to him, I want you to get the King’s back to the state. They’re currently on their way to Spain. Do I have your assurance?" He asked.

"I have to confirm whatever you’ve sent me is the real deal."

"You do that, but I won’t be a very happy man if they successfully escape to Spain."

"Oh they won’t. Don’t worry about that. I want them as much as you want them, Ace Atticus."
