THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 225: PANIC ATTACK
Chapter 225: PANIC ATTACK
Fay’s hands lifted to hold him, but she dropped them back to its position.
The kiss intensified, and she couldn’t keep her hands to herself anymore.
She was raising her hand, when he suddenly lifted her up.
His movements were swift, and as sleek as a serpent.
One moment, she was seated, and he hovered above her, the next, he was seated, and she was on his lap.
Their mouths moved in rhythm, communicating all the things they couldn’t say to each other.
"Mum wants to know if—oh, shit!" Claire gasped when she walked in on them.
Fay’s lips stopped moving, as she struggled to pull away.
Angrily, Ace turned to Claire, giving her the stink eye.
"Sorry, I’ll just come back later," she said, and quickly fled from their presence.
Fay looked down and that was when the switch dawned on her.
"How—" she shook her head, because there was no point in asking that question.
"That felt nice," Ace, who couldn’t read the room, said.
"Sure."
She rose to her feet, and went to sit on the other chair.
"Did I do something wrong?" He asked, his brow slanted in confusion.
"No, I just—"
Ace’s phone began to ring. He gave her an apologetic look, as he reached into his pocket, and grabbed the phone.
"Hello?"
"It’s Reign."
His whole demeanour changed, arousing Fay’s curiosity.
"Hey, how are you? I was going to call you, but I’ve had a crazy day so far," he said, running a hand through his hair.
That action distracted Fay for a few seconds, despite her curiosity on who was at the other end of the line.
"Yeah, I saw the news. It’s why I called you. I’m so sorry you’re going through all of that. I wish I could be there for you."
"Hey, don’t do that. You’re already dealing with more than enough. How’s your dad?"
Fay rolled her eyes. She should have known it was the woman who lived with him by how his entire aura changed the second she called, she thought.
"He’ll live for now. He’s worried about you. Especially after seeing the news."
"I wish I could go see him. But I’m currently on lockdown. When the dust settles, I’ll stop by. Are you good, though?"
"I’m fine, Ace. Thanks for asking. I miss you a lot."
Ace froze. He didn’t know how to respond to that without making things even more awkward than it was bound to be after he was done with the call.
"Take care of yourself, Reign. I’ll see you soon, I promise," he said, and quickly ended the call, before he could be tossed into a more difficult position.
"You two seem rather cozy. I expected you to be her husband at this point. Why keep the poor lady waiting?" Fay crossed her legs, pretending to be nonchalant about the entire situation.
He studied her briefly, then smiled in amusement.
"We’re not divorced, Fay. We never got divorced. It’s technically not possible to remarry."
"You’ve lost your mind, Ace. We were never truly married. A rushed ceremony by a priest during a burial doesn’t cut it," she scoffed.
"You do remember. I thought in hating me, you’d do your best to forget all our memories together," he said in a jesting voice that made her furious.
"Why should I forget? All of that led to the woman I am today. If anything, I’m thankful for the memories."
"What did you mean by what you said earlier?" He leaned forward, his face adorning a serious expression.
"How early? Before you forced me into a kiss or after?"
"I forced you?" He chuckled, the seriousness, instantly wiping off his face. "You seemed to like me kissing you."
"Don’t kid yourself, Ace. You caught me off guard, that’s all."
"Yeah sure," he nodded mischievously. "But don’t try to change the topic. You said backstabbing runs in my family. What did that mean?"
She threw a disbelieving scoff his way, as she whipped her head to get a proper look at him.
"You’re joking right? You really don’t expect me to tell you anything at all, when you’ve always considered me a liar, do you?"
"Fay—"
"Oh, no," she shook her head, stopping him before he could get more words out. "I can’t talk to you when you won’t even believe me. If you’re so curious, ask your mother, or your grandmother. I don’t even think that would work either, because if it doesn’t fit the description you have in your head, it doesn’t fly, does it?"
"I work with evidence, Fay. And I’m damn sure you’re not just talking about my family anymore. This is about what happened four years ago."
"You’re damn right it is!" She fired back.
"What do you want me to do about that? I saw the videos, and the pictures. That woman and her kids swore you were her daughter, and her kids, your sisters. Grant was missing in all of this, and that too was suspicious. What the fuck was I supposed to do?!" He raised his voice in frustration.
"The fact you even have to ask that question, irks my soul to no end. What should you have done? Maybe not taken things that could easily have been disproven at face value? What did I do when I found out Reign was pregnant for you? I mourned for a while, and got over it. Never did I try to hurt you, so why the hell couldn’t you give me the same grace?!"
She jumped to her feet, tired of sounding like she needed him to see the error of his ways.
He simply never was, and it was time to keep it moving.
She grabbed her purse and turned away from him towards the door.
"Fay!" He called, going after her. "I think we need to end all of this once and for all."
"I don’t want to talk to you, so you can take your conversation, and shove it!" She screamed behind her shoulders.
"Those two are fighting again?" Blaire asked, in a gathering of her, Claire, Sophia, and Nara.
Fay walked past the living room just then, and began climbing up the stairs.
"Where’s she going?" Ace asked, appearing in the living room too. "Where are you going?" he raised his voice so she could hear him.
"Far away from you, that’s where!" She screamed back.
Disappearing up the stairs. She made it to the hallway, the same time the matriarch was coming out of her room with Colin beside her.
Fay stopped in front of them, heaving from the energy exhausted in climbing up the stairs.
"You’re disgraceful, and actually a disappointment," she said through heavy breath. "But you’re not the worst bunch in your family, so I think you deserve a second chance. Could you excuse your grandmother and I?" She questioned Colin, right after querying him.
"I’m so sorry, pretty girl. I’ll leave you two alone."
He walked away, and she was left to stare at the matriarch.
"Come in."
The matriarch turned around, and headed into her office room.
"I know I’m a terrible person for caring about my family a little too much. Certain times, to the detriment of others," she said behind her shoulders, as she returned the items she had used in cleaning up Colin, back to its box.
"You’re not the only one who loves your family, so you can stop with that excuse."
Fay walked up to the fridge, and opened it. She pulled out a bottle of water, and chugged it down her throat in one gulp.
When she had drunk to her satisfaction, she covered the half empty bottle, and took it with her to the couch.
"Seth told you about your parents, and my role in their death, didn’t he?" The matriarch asked.
Fay lifted her head, and saw she was seated on her chair again.
"Why did you do it? Why didn’t you punish him?"
"Because my son wasn’t responsible for your parents death. He was a pest to your mother because he really found her attractive, but he didn’t orchestrate the accident."
"What?!" Fay spinned, so she was properly facing the matriarch. "Are you still trying to defend him?" She asked angrily.
"Nope. He’s currently in a mental institution, where I left him to fight his demons. Rest assured, I’m not defending him. He didn’t do it. Someone else did."
Fay took a few seconds to process this information in her head. There was no way she could just believe the matriarch. She had to by lying.
"So who was it? And why did you tell my grandfather your son was the perpetrator?"
"Because I thought so too. After Celine threatened me, it made me want to seek justice more. Contrary to popular belief, Fay, I do know how to hold my own against Celine."
"I don’t understand anything you’re saying."
"How well do you know your aunt’s husband?"
Fay’s heart beat doubled, as her mouth hung open.
"I did some digging, and I think it’s time you talk to your Aunt, Fay. There’s a reason she inherited all of your parents’ properties. A reason she grew bitter when your uncle suddenly disappeared after only just reappearing once when you were, was it fourteen?"
Fay had stopped listening already. Her hand grabbed her chest as she felt the onset of a panic attack.
