Chapter 223: TOUCH HER HEART

Chapter 223: TOUCH HER HEART

"Hey, wait up Ace," Landon called, running after him.

Ace pretended not to hear him, as he sauntered into the elevator.

Just before the doors closed, Landon managed to slide into it.

"What the heck, man? You can’t go through the lobby. I already told you the press are waiting to pounce on you. They’ve even managed their way into the main building."

"Landon, I wasn’t joking when I said all gloves are off. If the press wants something to talk about, by God, I’ll give them a thousand and one."

The elevator stopped, and it’s doors opened up for them to go through.

Ace was the first to step out. As soon as he walked into the lobby, all eyes shifted his way.

He could hear their thoughts from their eyes.

However, it wasn’t enough for him to give a toss.

They could think whatever they wanted,he wouldn’t be around anymore to hear it.

"Are you sure you want to go through the front door? I texted. Cam. He has readied the car."

"Well tell him to pull up front, because I’m going through this door."

He walked out into the open, and the press instantly surrounded him, shoving mics in his face.

"What do you have to say about your dismissal, Mr Ace?" He heard that question clearly, out of all the questions being thrown his way.

He grabbed the mic of the journalist who had asked that question, and brought it to his lips.

"Celine Atticus is a cunt, and soon, she’ll get what is coming for her."

He returned the mic, and continued to the car he had spotted the second Cam made the round.

It wasn’t easy going through the bloodthirsty press, but he didn’t do it alone.

Somehow, Landon had managed to find some security officers, who helped him clear the way.

He entered into the car, and Landon entered through the other end.

Cam drove away instantly, not a care in the world about the people stupid enough to stand in their way.

"Where to, boss?" He asked when he arrived on the highway.

"The Atticus mansion," he replied, loosening his tie.

He took it off, and took off the jacket next. Then his hands went to his shirt button, and loosened the first three.

Landon mirrored his action, grateful that they had made it out of the vipers’ teeth, unscathed.

He wasn’t even mad at Ace for further ruining his PR image with those words he directed to Celine.

She deserved worse, and he couldn’t wait to see her buried once and for all.

"I think she’s behind the deal gone wrong," Landon said when he was done taking off everything that restricted his body movement.

"I think so too. I should have thought of her first when it all went down. To think I gave that bitch the benefit of doubt. This is what I get in return?" He scoffed in absolute disbelief.

"Yeah, her silence was never ordinary. I can’t believe she’s president of Spades."

"I can’t believe grandma didn’t do anything to stop what was a glaring daylight robbery. Spades was willed to me. It shouldn’t have come down to this."

"That’s why you’re headed to the mansion? To confront her?"

"Exactly."

Cam made a turn into the Atticus street, and just ahead, they saw a series of media vans parked.

"Can’t believe the nerve of these bastards!" Ace cursed under his breath.

"I think the security officers are handling them. But whatsoever the case is, Cam, just keep driving," Landon ordered.

Cam nodded in response, and stepped on the gas on sighting a clear path.

He swerved to the right, and moved past the parked vans, and through that path.

The press representatives tussling with the security that wouldn’t let them go any further, turned their attention towards the car that just passed.

"That’s Ace Atticus’ car!" Someone screamed.

Cam had already arrived at the gate of the Atticus mansion, before the journalists could do anything serious.

The gate guy, at high alert, pushed the gate open immediately, and they drove in.

"Home sweet home," Ace said bitterly, as he stepped out of the car.

The noise from downstairs drew Fay’s attention.

She looked through the balcony, and saw Ace.

"It looks like your son is around."

Gabrielle, who had just returned with the muffins she made, despite Fay’s rejection, looked through the balcony, and indeed saw Ace.

"It’s official then. He has been dismissed from Spades," she said solemnly.

"Maybe that’s his karma for the way he treated me." She shrugged, but deep down in her heart, she felt sorry for him.

From the position she was seated, she could tell he was trying to remain composed.

But if he still had a trace of the Ace from four years ago, she knew in his heart, he was seething.

"I think I should leave," she said.

"No Fay. You have to eat first, and then bring some to my granddaughter."

Fay turned to her sharply, her eyes ridden with annoyance.

"You know about Dream too?"

"I know about her," she nodded. "I’ve not seen her pictures, but Seth, your grandfather? He says she’s gorgeous."

Fay sighed, torn between her emotions. Dream deserved to have a grandmother. At least one as sweet as Gabrielle.

She just didn’t know if she was ready to move past the bullshit yet.

"Ace knows about her too," she found herself saying before she could hold back.

Gabrielle dropped to her seat, and grabbed Fay’s hands.

"He does?" She asked with widened eyes.

Fay’s gaze went to Gabrielle’s hands on hers. There was no polite way to ask the woman not to touch her.

No, there actually was. She just didn’t think she would be polite about it if she decided to ask.

Instead, she allowed Gabrielle to hold her hands.

"Unfortunately. I can’t keep him away from her either. She met him once, and now that’s all she cares to talk about. Anyway, it’s her birthday in two days."

"Is that an invite, Fay?" Gabrielle asked in a hopeful tone.

Fay’s gaze lifted to meet hers. "Whatever," she replied.

Pulling her hand away, she rose to her feet.

"I’m leaving now."

Gabrielle smiled at her retreating figure. It wasn’t a total green light, but it was a start.

Her heart was softening, and soon, the scars would heal.

Fay walked into the living room at the same time Ace, and Landon walked in from outside.

Ace’s breath quickened when he saw Fay. It hadn’t been a complete day since he last saw her, but she had managed to get even more beautiful.

He suffered a temporary memory loss, just by looking at her.

The fact he was no longer president of Spades, didn’t even matter.

"Take a picture, it would last longer," she said, making her way to the door.

"You’re leaving already, Fay?" She heard double voices, and turned her head behind to see the twins.

"Of course she’s not," Ace replied.

"Why are you answering on my behalf?"

"Because darling, there’s a barrel of press just waiting to off-load at unsuspecting parties. I’m certain they’d be thrilled to see Fay Luxe coming from the Atticus mansion."

"The press made it here?" Nara whined, coming into the living room with Sophie.

"Yep. But the security guys are trying their best to hold them back," Landon said, taking a seat.

"Oh man, they’re blowing this out of proportion. You’d think they’ve never experienced a scandal before," Claire hissed, and went to sit beside Landon.

"Fay, you can’t go out there. I don’t want them to hurt you," Sophie said in a worried voice.

Fay sent her a sweet smile that melted Ace’s heart, even if he wasn’t the one she directed it to.

"Alright, but just for you," she said.

"Great, because you and I need to talk," Ace jumped in.

"I’m sorry Mr Atticus, I don’t want to talk to you," she replied, turning to him.

"Are you sure about that, Fay? Because I can just tell everyone what’s happening on Saturday you know? I mean since we’re truth seeking now, we should just come out with it."

She charged forward, then stopped right in front of him.

"What is your problem?" She screamed at him, like they were the only two in the room.

They might as well be, because to Ace, everyone else always ceased to exist everytime she was present.

"My problem is you being so cold towards me. Common Fay, I’ve just been through what could be considered the worst day of anyone’s life. Can’t you show me a little bit of mercy?" He pouted.

She hissed through her teeth, ignoring the way her heart had just skipped a beat.

"Stupid heart!" She thought. It always weakened whenever he was around.

"You’re the architect of your own misfortune, Ace. Deal with your shit your—"

Her words trailed as he suddenly walked past her, and lunged forward.

"Ace?!" They all screamed in unison, when he landed a punch on the face of Colin who had just walked down the stairs.

"You bastard!" He screamed, and threw another punch. "How could you lie to your own cousin?!"
