THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 202: UNEXPECTED HELP
Chapter 202: UNEXPECTED HELP
"You bitch. You vindictive whore!" Celine Atticus kept on screaming, whilst pointing at Fay.
Fay rose to her feet, picked up her purse, and turned towards the door.
With her chin lifted so high it obstructed the gossip fuming out of the mouths of everyone around, she walked out of the room, and went straight for her car.
Twice she had changed her mind. She really was going to choose peace. But on second thought, why choose peace, when the alternative was much more satisfying?
She made it to her car, and her driver immediately ran to open the doors for her.
Swooping her slit to the side to aid easier entrance, she was about to get into the car, when a hand pulled her back.
"What do you think you’re doing?!" She screamed on seeing Ace.
"I should be asking you the same question. You have your grouse with Celine, and I can understand going after her. But doing it on a night you know is very important to the woman that has done nothing but defend you, is quite monstrous. Even for you."
"Even for me?" She scoffed. "What are you talking about? I could burn this entire building down, and it still won’t make up for what you did to me. Let go!" She tried to pull her hand away, but it only made him hold on to it more firmly.
"You want vengeance because I clipped your entitled wings before they could sprout, then face me. Don’t go after my family like a scared coward!"
"Look at you defending aunty dearest. A pity, because Spades is in the mess it is because of her. I know, because I hear things. And from what I hear Ace, you’re going to be in the trenches soon. Now let me go."
Ace’s eyes squinted, as he searched through her face to see if she was lying.
"You’re lying?" He asked, his hold loosening a little.
She used that distraction to yank her hand away.
"I told you before. You’re insignificant to me. There’s no point lying to someone insignificant."
She entered her car, and slammed the doors shut.
"Drive!" She ordered her driver who had gotten in at the same time.
"Oh hell no!" Ace cursed, running to his car.
He was tired of the half-truths, and hidden knowledge.
Everyone knew something, but they never outrightly confessed whatever it was they knew.
First it was Landon telling him four years ago, he had seen a smug, victorious exchange between Celine, and Reign.
Then it was Colin telling him he was the blindest out of all of them, right before he stopped talking to him.
He also had Grant telling him about some truth.
And now, Fay was basically mocking him for not having access to information.
He had been okay with not knowing whatever truth everyone thought they had. But not anymore. Not after tonight.
Jumping into his car, he started it, and followed after Fay.
Fay looked through the rearview mirror, and spotted Ace’s car.
"That bastard is following me. If there’s a faster way to get home, do it!" She ordered her driver.
He stepped on the gas, and switched direction.
From the highway, he diverted into a more narrow road.
They had driven for ten minutes, when the car suddenly began to slow down.
"What the heck is happening?" Fay asked in alarm.
"It’s the car. I think there’s something wrong."
The car came to a complete stop, and she stormed out angrily.
"Gerald, please don’t tell me this is the same car we took out the other night?" She asked, when her driver came out to check what was wrong with the car.
"It is ma’am. I swear the repair guy fixed it. I thought everything was okay. Because of its mileage, I felt it would be the best fit for tonight," he explained.
"How could you not crosscheck, Gerald!" She screamed, her voice echoing round the empty road. "Where are we even? There are clearly no cars around, and definitely not buildings."
"I’m so sorry ma’am," he bowed his head. "You wanted us to pass a faster route. People barely pass through this road. Not a lot of people know about its existence, that’s why I chose to go through it."
"God, you’re so annoying, Gerald! How could you not think? Just how?" She stomped her feet, slightly in anger, and slightly in panic.
"I’m so sorry, Ms Fay. I just wanted to follow your orders. I’m sorry for not using my brain more."
Fay’s anger dwindled at the pain in his voice.
She could tell he was really sorry. He had tried to please her, anyway.
In a way, she was just as guilty in respect to their predicament.
"That’s fine. You were just following my orders. Sorry for screaming at you the way I did. I just don’t—"
Lightning struck, interrupting her apology. She flinched, and jerked back.
"No please. No rain," she shook her head. "No rain."
She already had a fear of rain, but that night solidified her hatred of it.
It seemed every time she was in a horrible situation, it rained. Every single time.
"I’ll call our car repair guy to meet us here. I’ll call home too, for another car to be brought," Gerald said, already going into the car to pick up his phone.
Fay was way ahead. Retrieving her phone from her purse, she moved to dial home, when her eyes fell on the reception icon.
There was no reception. She checked just to confirm, but nothing went through.
"Oh shit!" She cursed, and staggered back.
Her back landed on the car, and she bowed her head in surrender.
It was all beyond her now. There was nothing she could do.
"Ma’am, there’s no reception," Gerald said.
"Yeah, tell me about it," she muttered.
"Don’t worry about it, ma’am. I’ll try to check what is wrong with the car. Maybe I can fix it."
She knew he couldn’t, but she was grateful he was willing to try.
"Do you need my help?" She asked, going to join him.
"Ma’am, I don’t think this is something you can do."
"I wasn’t always rich, Gerald. I don’t mind getting messy."
The headlights of an approaching car suddenly reflected all around.
Fay turned in relief, but frowned when she saw Ace coming out of his car.
"As if this night couldn’t get any words," she muttered under her breath.
"What the fuck happened?" Ace asked, as he approached them.
"Sir, I think something’s wrong with the—"
"Don’t talk to him, Gerald. He has no business asking what is wrong with my car." Fay hissed.
"Yes I do. It’s going to rain soon. If I don’t help, you’ll be stuck here," he replied, already rolling up his sleeves.
"Like you care," she murmured, and rolled her eyes.
He ignored her, and instead joined Gerald in checking the car.
A few minutes later, he shook his head.
"I’m afraid this isn’t something that can be worked on swiftly. I’ve done enough to make it start, but it can only go a short distance. Why don’t you two come with me, so I can give you a lift?"
"Over my dead body!" Fay gritted.
"Ma’am, please go with Sir Ace. I’ll drive the car back to the highway, and when I get some reception, I’ll call the repair guy. We can’t just leave the car here," Gerald said.
"Have you lost your mind, Gerald? I’d rather stay here, and even sleep on the road, than go anywhere with that man," she replied stubbornly.
Both men exchanged tired glances. Ace couldn’t remember Fay being that stubborn. He knew she hated him, but she also had common sense.
Wasn’t that supposed to override whatever hatred there was?
"Get in the car, Fay," he said, tired of playing nice.
"You heard me, Ace Atticus. I’d rather run a knife through my own—"
Lightning struck a second time, followed by rumbling thunder.
She jumped, and held on to her chest, tightly.
Ace rolled his eyes, and walked up to her. Picking her from ground up, he slung her over his shoulders, and began walking to his car.
"Try driving the car to the highway. You should be fine from there. Good luck," he said to Gerald behind his shoulder, turning deaf ears to Fay’s screams of protest.
He brought her down, and shoved her into the front seat.
"Buckle up, princess," he said, shutting the doors.
Before she could do anything as stupid as coming out of the car, he went round, and entered into the driver’s seat.
"This is kidnapping, Ace! You’re taking me against my will."
"Oh trust me," he said, starting the car. "I’m not too crazy about helping you either."
"Then why do it? Why can’t you just leave me the fuck alone?" She screamed at him.
He stared at her briefly, mesmerised by how stunning she looked, despite the hatred that shone through those precious green eyes of hers.
"I told you before, darling. We’re still married. I don’t want to become a widower yet."
"You bastard!"
He laughed, as he drove the car forward, basking in the sound of the curses she rained on him.
