THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY
Chapter 198: DREAM’S REALITY

Chapter 198: DREAM’S REALITY

Fay ran past Cade who had pointed to the direction of the room she was needed.

She pushed the doors open, and stormed in.

Her daughter, Dream was laying on a bed, with her eyes shut.

"Dream!" She screamed, and dashed towards her.

A nurse held her back before she could reach her.

"She has to rest, ma’am. We’ve been able to stabilise her. She only needs to rest."

"Have you lost your mind?!" Fay aggressively shrugged her off. "That’s my daughter you’re talking about! I have to see her."

She made a run for her bed again, when someone held her from behind.

Despite her struggles, the new arrival was able to turn her around.

"It’s me, Fay. We have to let the doctors do their job!"

"Grandpa?" She went into his arms, as she burst into tears. "What happened to Dream? What happened to my daughter?"

"Let’s step out a bit, and I’ll tell you everything you want to know, okay?"

She nodded, but looked behind her to check her daughter.

"Mum’s here, Dreamy bear. You’ll be fine, alright?"

She allowed her grandfather to lead her out of the room, and to a more private area.

"What the hell happened, grandpa?" She asked, the second they sat down.

"The kitchen girls were going to go get some food from the supermarket, and asked the nanny if they could buy some ice cream for Dream. The nanny was busy trying to get Dream to stop playing with her food, and forgot to tell them what flavour to buy. When they returned, the nanny was cleaning up the mess Dream made with her food. She was with me in the living room, when they brought the ice cream. She had just taken a scoop when I perceived nuts. It happened so fast. Her allergies flared up before I could even throw the cup out of her hands."

"Oh God!" Fay held her chest, as she almost threw up all over the floor.

"It’s not their fault, Fay. Please don’t be mad at the staff. I should have paid more attention to what she was being fed."

Fay wiped off the tears stinging in her eyes, and rose to her feet.

"It’s not your fault either. By now, the staff should know what Dream can and cannot ingest. That’s all my fault for forgetting to let them know."

"Dream will be fine, Fay. No need to beat yourself up about this."

"I know," she nodded. "I know."

An hour passed, and one of the doctors approached Fay who was pacing back and forth along the halls of the private ward .

She had paid for the entire floor so they could maintain their privacy.

Security was littered all about, just in case some obsessed journalist managed to sneak their way in.

"Miss Fay, can I please talk to you?" The doctors who looked like he could be in his sixties, called for her.

"What is it, doctor? Is Dream going to be alright?"

"She is. She’s awake already, and wants to see you. I just wanted you to know accidents like these happen all the time. There’s no need to be so beat up about it."

"Thank you so much, doctor. I just want to see my daughter."

"Sure, come with me."

The friendly doctor led her into the new room, Dream had been wheeled into.

As soon as she entered the room, Dream’s nanny ran up to her, sobbing uncontrollably.

"I’m so sorry, ma’am. I was supposed to be watching Dream. If I was around her, none of this would have happened. Please forgive me," she pleaded.

"Now’s not the time, please."

She walked around her, and went to her daughter.

"Mummy!" Dream tried to scream in excitement, but a whimper escaped her throat right after.

"Relax, baby. You’re still in a little bit of pain. But you’re going to be fine," she sat beside her, and grabbed her little hands. "Mommy’s here, okay? And you know nothing bad happens when mummy’s around."

"And daddy? Is he going to come too? Maybe if you tell him I’m sick, he’ll come."

Fay’s heart shattered into tiny, unrecognisable pieces.

Dream never talked about her father. Except the first time she asked how come she didn’t have one, when in the parks, most children had their fathers around.

She had explained that her father had gone away for a very long time, and won’t be returning soon.

That was all she needed for that topic to be closed. But it would seem the child had remembered again.

"Your daddy doesn’t matter, princess. Mummy’s here." She stroked her brows.

"But–"

"Dream? Dream darling, they tell me you’re awake now," Seth said, as he approached them.

"PawPaw." Dream waved at him.

He walked over to the bed, and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead.

Fay felt very much relieved, her grandfather had walked in at the exact time he did.

She didn’t think she would have had the strength to deal with Dream’s desire for her father’s presence.

"I just spoke to the doctor. He said Dream can come home tomorrow morning. They only need to monitor her through the night," Seth said to Fay.

"Did you ask if I can stay in with her? I’m not leaving my daughter to sleep alone in a hospital."

"That wouldn’t be a problem, ma’am. You can stay with your daughter."

Fay’s heart skipped a beat on hearing that voice. She turned around, and couldn’t believe her eyes.

"A–Alexander?" She rose to her feet, still in shock.

"Doctor Nathan asked me to come in and check the patient," Alexander said.

She lifted her brow, and he bobbed his head, understanding she was confused.

"The doctor who led you here? He just got off duty, and asked me to take over. I wasn’t expecting the mother of the child to be you, of course," he said.

"Do you know my mummy, doctor? Are you my daddy?" Dream asked in a tiny voice.

"Oh Dreamy," Fay quickly walked up to her. "You can’t ask a stranger such a question."

Alexander chuckled, and drew closer to the bed. "I don’t mind, miss Dream. You speak quite intelligently for your age, do you know that?" He asked, bending over so he was more levelled with her.

"And your accent is pretty. It reminds me of one of the cartoons I watch. I just can’t remember," she said, and yawned.

"That’s because you need to rest now, okay?"

"Im Dream," she smiled, and stretched out her tiny hands.

"And I’m doctor Alexander, at your service."

She giggled, and in no time, fell deep into the arms of sleep.

Fay placed a kiss on her cheeks, then straightened up, and turned to Alexander.

"Can we talk?" She asked.

"Sure, we can."

"Grandpa—"

"Go, I’ll watch over Dream until you return," he replied immediately, as if reading her mind.

"Thank you," she muttered, and followed Alexander.

They entered his office, and he offered her a seat.

"So City Hope, huh? How did you end up here? Why did you leave your former hospital?" She asked, eyeing him carefully.

"I needed to start afresh, and on my own. It wasn’t going to be easy, but I needed to live without Leighton."

"Ah, sounds super romantic," she said dryly.

"You’ve changed." His eyes narrowed on her.

"You’re the hundredth person. Congratulations." She gave him a thumbs up.

"I saw a glimpse of you, I mean the old you around your daughter. But away from her, you’re different, and I’m serious about this."

"You seem different too. Less smiley. Does that have anything to do with the fact Leighton and Landon are together now?" She leaned into her seat, and crossed her legs.

His heartbeat doubled, as he stared at her. He wondered if he would ever be able to totally rid himself off her. She was still as beautiful as ever, maybe even more. It had taken everything in him to forget about her the last time, and moved on. But now, she was back. Painfully back.

"You were always the one I was in love with, Fay." He watched her to see her reaction.

She only shrugged, but kept a straight face.

"Maybe you shouldn’t have been. You deserved better."

"You were better," he countered.

"Were?" She lifted an amused brow.

"Don’t inject meanings into my words. You know what I’m trying to say."

"Do I?" Her eyes twinkled in amusement.

"Fay–"

"Even if you and I were possible before, that ship has long sailed. I have a daughter."

"She looks like her father."

Fay chortled dryly. "She does."

"Does he know?"

"He doesn’t deserve to, and you’re not going to tell him," she said in a warning tone.

"Why would I? It’s none of my business. I just hope you know what you’re doing now, and not living in anger."

"Do you know what you’re doing? If you did, you wouldn’t have ran from the one person that loved you unconditionally."

She rose to her feet, and walked towards the door.

"Fay?" Alexander called, and she stopped with her hand on the knob.

"Nice to see you again."

"Yeah you too, doctor Alexander." She opened the door, and walked away.
