Chapter 196: DEAL GONE WRONG

Fay ran into the restroom, and sighed in relief when she discovered she was the only one there.

She looked at her reflection in the mirror, and was mortified by what she saw..

Her lipstick was slightly smudged down to the corner of her lips.

"You should have never let him kiss you! You should have fought him off some more!" She chided herself, as she frantically went in search of some wipes..

She found a box of tissue instead, and dragged it along with her.

Fay spent the next ten minutes trying to fix the mess Ace had caused.

"I hate him so much!" She almost screamed, right after putting her hair in place.

She stepped back to stare at her reflection. Everything was back in place. Her lipstick though greatly reduced, laid perfect across her lips. Her hair was flawless too.

She was the heiress of Luxe once more. "And don’t you ever forget that." She pointed at the woman staring back at her in the mirror.

Taking a deep breath, she turned around, and sashayed out of the ladies.

When she arrived at Xylon’s table, she wasn’t expecting to still see him there.

But there he was, seated, and waiting for her.

He turned when he sensed her presence, but she had already made the round, and sat down.

"Hey," she called, and he rotated his head back to her direction. "You’re still here? I thought you had left."

"Now why would I do that? I invited you out myself, didn’t I?"

"You did. But I’m sure you didn’t expect the rude interruption from Ace Atticus."

"Ace," the name twirled amusingly around his tongue. "I came to find you. But I saw him marching out in anger, and thought something must have happened."

Fay leaned into her seat, and crossed her legs. "Do you want to know what happened?"

"Would you like to tell me?" He asked, tilting his head to the side so he could regard her properly.

"You must think the worst of me. But I’m certain it couldn’t be worse than what that fool thinks."

She hated how much he still got under skin. One of these days, she would hurt him in a way he would disappear out of her life forever.

"Bastard!" She cursed under her breath.

"I see you really don’t like him anymore. Funny, because you were once married."

Her gaze dropped sharply towards him. "If you’re trying to say something, Xylon, just say it. This dancing around the bush, for lack of better words, is beneath you."

He nodded, and followed it with a charming smile.

"You’ve changed."

"Everyone says that. I must be doing something good." She shrugged.

"There’s a fire to you now," he said in a voice filled with fascination. "Before, you were the pretty girl with innocence capable of piercing the strongest of hearts."

"And now?" She cocked a brow.

"You’re fire. Welcome fire. Fire that lights up both the willing and unwilling. But who would be unwilling in your presence?"

His eyes trailed from her head, down to her legs crossed against each other.

She could tell he was undressing her in his head. His eyes were like a window, and Xylon was a pretty open book.

Maybe that was why she didn’t mind him. It was the ones that hid their intentions, that one needed to be wary about.

"Xylon, I came here to discuss business."

He cleared his throat, and adjusted himself on his chair.

"Of course you did," he laughed, and picked up his glass. "To business then." He downed the wine in the glass in one go.

"Do you still want to hear me out?"

"Fay, I could never not hear you out. Please, go ahead." He urged.

"I want to start my fragrance line."

His eyes squinted swiftly, as he stared at her with a puzzled expression.

"I thought you never wanted to monetize your gift?"

"You remember," the corner of her lips twitched.

"Darling, I almost ran mad when it finally dawned on me you had disappeared from the states. Does that kind of obsession just wear off?"

She laughed, unable to keep it in. "I like that you’re so honest."

"It is the best policy anyway."

"I’ll cheer for that."

She drank from her glass, and the wine went smoothly down her throat.

"Good wine," she said.

"I have even better in my house, but we’re taking care of business now, so please go ahead."

She bobbed her head, her eyes twinkling in appreciation for him taking this entire thing seriously, despite the fact he wouldn’t stop flirting with her.

"I have an ick against gardens. Don’t ask me why, because I won’t answer. That’s why I need you to help me with flower distribution. On a large scale of course."

He dropped his hand on the table, and leaned forward. "Why me?"

"You loved my perfume. You appreciated it. Plus you have a good nose for fragrance. And your company knows how to do a good sorting, regardless of the product involved. Why not?"

"You’re trying to get my head to explode with all of these compliments, aren’t you?" He wagged an accusatory finger as if he had found her true intentions.

"Xylon, if I wanted to compliment you, I’d tell you how the faces of gods pale in comparison to yours. But I’m certain you’re aware of your looks."

"Confident too. God, I liked the other Fay, but this one may just be my favorite! Let’s do it. When do you want to start?"

"Okay, pause. We still need to draft a contract."

"Bullshit! Call it a favor." He waved a dismissive hand.

"No, Xylon. I came here for business. If you’re not going to sign a contract that’ll require me to pay you for your services, I won’t be going ahead with this," she warned.

"Alright," he raised his hand in surrender. "I’ll sign a contract. But first, you have to tell me why I couldn’t find you four years ago, even after I searched everywhere for you."

She scoffed. "You know already. I’m sure you saw the news."

"Nah, fuck the news. I want to hear from your mouth what happened."

She contemplated telling him or not, then shrugged. Why not? It wasn’t as if she hadn’t gotten over it.

"Ace accused me of being a conniving slut, trying to steal his family’s fortune. He still thinks I’m one to date, and that my latest victim is Seth Luxe."

"He’s a fool. And you’ve not answered my question."

"What else do you want to hear, Xylon?" She stared at him cooly through her lashes.

"I found you, and then I didn’t. The day I was going to show up at the hospital, you didn’t show up. You didn’t show up the day after, and the day after. The last time I saw you in that hospital Fay, you were talking to one of the doctors I’m extremely familiar with."

"Oh really? What doctor is this?"

Her heart was beating very fast, but she kept her composure, not letting even so much as sweat break from her face.

"He handles pregnant women. One day later, you were gone. I searched everywhere, and didn’t find you. Maybe I should have looked closer. I would have seen you were with Seth all along. I never saw him in the hospital," he said with regret filled in his voice.

"What are you getting at, Xylon?" She asked, still keeping her composure.

"I want to know if you left to handle whatever ties you still have with Ace."

The direction the conversation had dived into was pretty clear to her now.

"And why would you want to know that?"

"Because it’s my turn to love you the way you deserve, and it would be nice to know if there’s still lingering feelings for Ace."

She rose to her feet abruptly. "I think this meeting was a mistake. I told you I came here to talk business. Hit me up when you have the same agenda."

He nodded, and didn’t try to stop her. After all, what he wanted was simple. He just didn’t know if her reaction could help him narrow down his position.

What he did know as he watched her leave, was that there was a need to call his private investigator again.

They had failed in locating her once before. But four years had passed, and she was back.

He just hoped that this time around, they could help him find out if she was hiding a child.

Fay grabbed the wheels of her car, like she was about to strangle it.

She didn’t want to stop to think about Xylon’s words.

How dare he watch her? Seth had told her the hospital was rather private, and safe.

She guessed it hadn’t been safe enough to keep off Xylon’s wandering feet.

"Damn you!" She punched the steering.

She couldn’t afford for anyone to know about her child. For Dream, she would do anything in her power to keep her away from this violent world.

Her phone began to ring, and with one hand, she reached into her purse to grab it.

"What?!" She screamed into the phone.

"It’s me, Fay. I need you at the City hope hospital. Dream needs you."

Those were the only words she needed, to make her step on the gas.
