THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 171: COMING TO TERMS
Chapter 171: COMING TO TERMS
Ace walked into his living room and found Reign on top the stairs, her legs crossed, and one hand holding on to the railing.
There was a smile on her face, as she watched him from afar.
From the other side of the room, Marilyn and Alice stood, watching the visual interaction.
Their faces twisted in disgust, as they focused on Reign who was staring at Ace as if she wanted to eat him.
They could see the fight was slowly leaving him. Usually, he would ignore her, and go up to his room. Instead, he actually stood there, staring back at her.
Alice turned to Marilyn, and they communicated through their eyes. She nodded in understanding, and stepped forward.
"Sir Ace! Welcome home!" She called at the top of her voice.
He pulled his gaze from Reign, whose smile turned into a frown the second he did.
"Do you need help with your briefcase?" She asked, already reaching out for it.
"Allow me to help him with that. I think you should focus on preparing the table for him. Remember, you made his favourite," Marilyn said.
"Yeah, you’re right. But you shouldn’t have said anything just yet. You’ve ruined the surprise."
"Oops, silly me." She covered her mouth with her fingers.
Ace watched the clearly rehearsed back and forth in amusement. He wondered if both women didn’t realise how long he knew them.
They were clearly putting up an act, and he was curious to know their reason.
"What if I say I’m not exactly hungry? Would I be forgiven?" He lifted a curious brow.
"It depends. Would you want to be the kind of boss that allows his staff to go through so much stress, only to reject what that stress produced? I don’t think so, sir Ace," Alice said.
Despite his mood for the last week, he found himself actually smiling. "Nah, I wouldn’t want to do that."
Reign was irritated. From the position she stood, waiting for him to come up the stairs, she shot daggers at the destructive duo.
They obviously planned to take all of his attention, and leave her standing alone like a fool.
She had the night all planned out already. She had even ordered food, and arranged her room in a romantic fashion.
After giving him enough space to see she had been right about Fay, she finally decided today was the day she applied a little pressure.
All of that work had gone up in flames, simply because these two busy bodies couldn’t just mind their business.
Her hand began to fold into a fist. They were trying to make an enemy out of her. If only they knew it was in their best interest not to.
They had never liked her. Even back when she was still Ace’s girlfriend, they made sure to show her how much they despised her.
"I think he needs to rest from work first," she pushed her legs forward, and began descending the stairs. "He’s just coming off a stressful day at work. Instead of hounding him, why not allow him to take a breather?" She asked, stopping in their midst.
They went silent, focusing solely on Ace.
"I believe I’m talking to humans who have a functional mouth. Go away, and let me handle the father of my child." She made sure to add the last part for major impact.
When they still didn’t budge, she grew furious, and turned to Ace.
"Are you going to let them disobey me?" She asked, trying to control her tone.
"I don’t think they’ve done anything wrong. This is how it’s always been. I come home, and they hound me. Sometimes it’s annoying, and I tell them right away. It never stops them from repeating the same thing, and I don’t mind it either," he tried to explain in a levelled voice.
"I don’t care. They clearly disregard my words. I’m so—" her lips began to quiver. "Hu-rt." She burst into tears.
Ace was taken aback for a second there. He couldn’t recall if he had ever seen Reign cry.
She took pride in being strong enough not to ever indulge in a weak action like tears.
Things like that were what convinced him she was really pregnant.
"I didn’t mean to upset you," he said, confused as to the best approach to comfort her.
Alice rolled her eyes. She couldn’t fathom how the boss who was so intelligent couldn’t sniff the deceit out of the rat.
From the very first day she announced to the world she was pregnant, Alice knew trouble was going to follow.
She had kept an eye on her, waiting for her to slip up. Unfortunately, Reign was as careful as she was cunning.
"Do you need something to drink?" Marilyn, much more sympathetic to the plights of others, asked.
Alice almost couldn’t hold back the snark that threatened to leave her mouth. She couldn’t believe Marilyn of all people would fall for the bullshit.
At least, when Fay cried, it was believable. She could believe it because she knew it was genuine.
"I think she needs the rest more than the boss does. Do you want me to take you to your room?" Alice, unable to hold back, asked her in a voice that made it known she was being patronising.
The crying Reign took note of what had just happened, but didn’t respond to it.
She knew who she was going to start with, when it was time to throw away the staff who would oppose her success in the house.
"No, I just need you," she said, and moved to Ace’s body.
He passed the briefcase to the side, just as she fell into his arms.
Reluctantly, Alice who was closest to him collected the briefcase, and began walking upstairs.
"Should I take it to your room, or home office?"
Ace was too focused on comforting the crying Reign to hear her the first time.
Alice rolled her eyes. It was either that, or gauging it out. Much better than watching whatever this nonsense was.
"Sir, Alice wants to know where to take the briefcase." Marilyn stepped in.
She knew if she allowed Alice to ask a second time, it would be in a tone that won’t exactly be as respectful as required.
Marilyn was much better at hiding her disdain for Reign. She told herself she would rather focus her energy on praying for the return of Fay, than wasting it on just hating Reign.
Alice did not give a damn. She didn’t like the bitch, and she didn’t plan on pretending she did.
"Whichever," he finally replied.
She continued up the stairs, her nose turned all the way up to the heavens.
Marilyn whirled, and returned to the kitchen.
"Can we go upstairs? My feet hurt from standing," Reign said when she could sense they were alone.
She had him exactly where she wanted him. Knowing Ace, she understood that having a child for him was the fastest way to his heart.
He always spoke about how much of the love his father didn’t hold back from giving him, made him the man he was, despite all of his shortcomings.
She knew he would want to pass that same love to his child, and so, would never deny them.
Ace nodded, and gently led her up the stairs. She wasn’t showing yet, but he reckoned in about a month or two, she would.
He had not completely accepted that she was pregnant for him. He still had his doubts. But he had not heard from the matriarch, which could only mean she found out Fay wasn’t who she thought she was.
The event was in exactly three days, and that was when he planned on carrying out his revenge.
"Do you feel any pain?" He asked, because he had thought about his plans, and it had circled back to Fay.
Also, they had made it up the stairs. And as soon as his feet touched the hallways, he could perceive her scent.
Time to time, he found himself wandering towards her room. Although he would always stop before he got there, he wondered how long he could have that much self control.
"Just by the side. The doctor said it’s normal, but I would like to go in for more check ups. Would you like to come with me?"
He stopped at the door to her room, and let go of her.
She frowned because she had hoped he would take her to his room.
Despite the disappointment, she expertly hid it well, adorning a smile instead.
"I’ll check my schedule," he said.
He was being diplomatic, she observed. But that was why she liked him, anyway.
"Do you want to come in?" She asked, remembering her surprise she had in store for him.
"Nah, I need to freshen up. But I’ll see you tomorrow."
"Is it because of Fay?" She asked on his way to his room.
He stopped, but didn’t turn. "I don’t want to hear that name."
"I’m fine with that. Good Night the father of my child," she said, a sinister smile lighting up her eyes, as she walked into her room, and slammed the door shut behind her.
