THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY
Chapter 167: DELIRIOUS ENCOUNTER

Chapter 167: DELIRIOUS ENCOUNTER

Fay walked around the garden in the house she had been disposed to for the third time that day.

She felt unusually frightened, and it worried her.

To distract herself from her thoughts, she wandered into the garden with a clear goal in mind.

She was grateful the matriarch had been kind enough to get her the ingredients she needed in producing perfumes.

The second she ventured into the garden that evening, she set to work.

There were just three staff in the entire house. She was happy they were nice to her. If it was because of the orders from their boss, she would never know. She was just happy about their attitude towards her.

A work station had been set for her, at her request.

Shortly after properly arranging everything she needed on the table, she set to work.

As she worked, she began to hum. The more she hummed, the more she forgot about the world around her.

Her goal that day was solely to manufacture something she had never done before.

In order to do that, she knew she needed to focus.

Running away from her worries helped her focus. Soon enough, she was so lost in what she was doing, she didn’t see that darkness was fast consuming the day.

In the middle of humming, she broke into a song that drifted into her head.

She didn’t know where she heard it from before, the words just flowed out of her mouth.

So engrossed in her world, she didn’t notice the person standing behind her, gaping.

A hand subconsciously touched the back of her neck, and she jolted uprightly.

Turning, she found a woman staring at her like she was some sort of enigma.

"Who are you?" She questioned with genuine curiosity.

She had never seen that woman around, and it scared her to know she had been crept on, without hearing a sound.

"How do you know that song?" She asked, still looking at her.

Fay wanted to be nice, but because she had been paranoid all day, only managing to escape into her world that evening—

Her thoughts paused on its tracks, as she looked around, only to discover the last trace of natural light leaving the earth.

It was practically dark already. She had been able to escape into her head for a while.

However, this strange woman who questioned her had brought her back to reality.

"I’m sorry for asking, but I really need to know!"

She suddenly grabbed her hand violently.

"What are you doing?" Fay tried to pull her hand out of the tight grip of the mad woman’s, but all her efforts were in vain.

She simply refused to let go. She just tightened her hand until Fay could feel her bones squashing.

"You have to tell me the truth," she continued as if she was possessed. "How do you know that song? No one knows it except her."

"Except who? What are you talking about? This is insanity!"

She looked around, hoping someone would come in and see what was happening.

If she was slightly scared before, the coldness of the woman’s stare rendered her terrified.

"Don’t talk about her like that! She was good! She was better than everyone in this messed up world. But just like they do everyone else that doesn’t belong to her world, they killed her. They killed her!"

She broke into a feat of tears, rendering Fay more confused than ever before.

Her hands still hurt from how hard it was being squeezed, but she also felt curious now.

"Hey, listen, it’s okay. Some people are just too good for this world. You never know, she must have found peace already."

That seemed to enrage the woman, as she paused crying, and clattered her teeth.

"What do you know about peace? There can’t be peace when there isn’t even justice for the dead. Have you lost your mind?!" She screamed out of nowhere.

Fay jumped, her heart also lurching to her mouth.

"I– I don’t know what else to say," she stumbled over her words.

"Apologize! Apologize to her. She doesn’t deserve to be spoken about with such unkindness!"

She squeezed harder, and Fay let out a loud yelp.

Her voice echoed past the garden, and in no time, someone ran to check what was happening.

"Mrs Fay?" The gardener she had quickly made friends with when she first arrived at the address, Mr Fisher screamed, and bolted towards them.

"That’s okay, Virginia. You’re messing with the boss’s guest. You can’t do that. Please snap out of it," he pleaded, whilst she seethed.

Fay, scared, and amused, observed the words that came out of his mouth.

This was clearly a usual occurrence. It was pretty clear he was used to it. It begged the question, what exactly was wrong with the woman?

It felt like a mirror had been brought to her face. She could easily end up that delirious if she continued to worry as much as she was.

Shuddering at the thought of walking up to a total stranger, and hurting them, she vowed not to fall apart.

After several failed attempts at trying to make Virginia let go, the poor man took action into his own hands.

With his fragile hands which were more jittery than they were two years ago, he pushed her hand away.

She turned, and lifted her hand to slap him.

However, like the switch of a light, her lashes fluttered, and she dropped her hand.

"Fisher?" She called, and ran into his open arms. "I’m so sorry. I promised it wouldn’t happen again. What’s wrong with me?" She cried out.

Fay, rubbing her hand that throbbed with raw pain, kept her eyes on the woman.

She felt pity for her. She clearly didn’t mean to hurt her. It was obvious she didn’t know how sick she was.

Mr Fisher pulled out of the hug, tears welling in his eyes.

"You have to apologize to Mrs Fay. She has been nothing but nice to everyone. You may not know this, but she’s the matriarch’s daughter in-law," he whispered as if she wasn’t standing just behind them, and could hear everything.

"I know. I’m so sorry," she moved towards Fay. "I shouldn’t have hurt you. I don’t know what came over me. Please forgive me?"

Fay felt a little awkward. It wasn’t very nice when she was hurting her, of course. But, she felt there was a story she needed to hear.

"What’s wrong with you?" She asked, concern laced in her voice.

Virginia turned to Fisher with a helpless look in her eyes.

The visibly angry man tossed his anger to the side, and went to stand beside her. He grabbed her hands into his, and comforted her with a gentle squeeze.

"I’m so sorry, Mrs Fay. This is my wife, Virginia. We met over twenty years ago. She goes through this phase where she blanks, and gets a little violent. I’m so sorry, because we’ve done the best we can, yet, she’s still this way."

Fay’s heart expanded with admiration. She could feel the love between them even after so many years.

The way he was able to come to the defense smartly, even when she was wrong, was the sweetest, most bravest thing any man could do.

She wished Ace was a little like him. Thinking about Ace made her feel sad.

She had purposely ensured she didn’t think about her feelings for him. But it was impossible. He filled her head the most, and it was because of him, she needed a distraction. Even before she became worried.

"Was there a trigger? Did you meet her this way?"

She assumed Virginia didn’t want to talk, and focused on Fisher.

"I did. I was working as a volunteer at the hospital when I met her. There wasn’t enough money to treat her, so I provided as much as I could. I visited her everyday until she was healed. You see, she was involved in a ghastly accident that claimed the life of everyone involved. She doesn’t remember the faces of the people, or what she was to them. But there are certain sounds that trigger her memory."

Fay nodded, because it was beginning to make sense. Virginia had asked about the song she was singing.

She didn’t know where she had heard it either. In truth, most of the songs she sang came from a memory she had no access to. They all sounded like rhymes.

The first time it happened, she wondered if it was just a part of her memory remembering the songs her mother used to sing for her.

However, judging by what her aunt had told her about her mother- from the crumbs she fed her of course, she would have been too busy to sing her songs.

"I’m so sorry you had to go through all of that," she said, and moved to hug her.

She stopped on her tracks, when Virgina moved behind Fisher.

"She doesn’t like hugs from strangers," he quickly explained. "Please forgive and excuse us," he said, as he gently led her away.

But as she walked, she kept turning around to look at Fay.

"Hair full of red," she whispered, just before they walked out of sight.
