THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY
Chapter 137: HER WORTH

Chapter 137: HER WORTH

"How would you like to receive your payment? Will a check be convenient?" Xylon Bass directed at Fay who was unable to curtail her excitement at having sold out her perfumes.

Her toes curled, and her tummy fluttered with euphoric joy.

"I haven’t even told you a price yet," her eyes widened when it dawned on her. "You can’t pay without knowing the price."

The real truth was she didn’t exactly know the price to splash on her perfumes. She had hoped that on getting to the fragrance store, they would evaluate it, and give her whatever they think it was worth.

"I know how much I want to pay for it," he said, interrupting her thoughts.

Her ears twitched as his words drifted through. "Really?" She asked, wriggling her nose in confusion.

He smiled, and whipped his head towards his driver. Ralph didn’t need his boss to speak to him for him to know what he was supposed to do.

As soon as he looked at him, he pretty much got the message.

His legs reluctantly moved towards the car. Yet another woman who was going to take some money from his boss. Only that this time, he was the one initiating the transaction.

He didn’t even ask any questions. Why would he buy such untested perfume from a stranger in hopes of giving it to his parents? What if it caused a chain reaction that caused a bigger dent in his relationship with his parents?

These were the kind of questions he expected his boss to ask himself before jumping to help out a stranger. Most especially a girl who couldn’t be any good for him.

She was too pretty. Her smile was too genuine. Someone that pure could either be truly naive, or just a damn good actress.

His chest was starting to hurt from all of that nasty feeling he harboured towards the strange girl.

Rolling his eyes after being told to wait for a few seconds before he could access the car, he took the time to look around.

From his calculations, the meeting his boss was supposed to have would be coming to an end pretty soon. That was another deal gone to smoke because he couldn’t resist a pretty face.

"Hey, you can access the car now," one of the repair guys said to him.

He snapped out of his head, and searched the car for the chequebook. Grabbing it, he returned to his boss who couldn’t keep his eyes off the woman’s face.

She was a pretty woman, no doubt. The more reason he would love for his boss to stay clear of her.

"Thanks Ralph." He accepted the chequebook and a pen, and wrote down the amount he thought the perfume was worth.

Fay held her breath as he handed the cheque to her.

When her gaze shifted across the figures, her eyes bulged.

"What?!" She blurted.

"What is it? Is it too small? I could a—"

"It’s too much! Half a million dollars for each bottle? I didn’t even make it with one quarter of that money. I’m sorry, I can’t accept this." She stretched the cheque back to him.

He didn’t budge, only stared at her with bewilderment.

In truth, it was a hefty amount to spend on a perfume that was neither branded, nor did he know the process in which it was made.

Another truth was that he really thought it smelled nice. Since he hadn’t gotten any allergic reactions yet after sniffing the perfumes, it was safe to say it was safe to purchase.

"I think your efforts are worth more than that," he finally said, folding his hand.

"No thank you. I can’t possibly accept that. Maybe a thousand dollars. That’s okay."

Cam couldn’t believe his ears. She was selling herself short simply because she didn’t know the value of her work. While it was true the billionaire had valued the purchase higher than necessary, she was also undervaluing herself.

"A thousand dollars? What can a thousand dollars get you?" He scoffed at how simply ridiculous she sounded.

"A gift for someone special? It’s her birthday tomorrow and I thought about selling something so I could buy her a gift. What would I use the kind of money you’re willing to give to buy for a little girl? It’s too much."

"Then keep the rest," he said.

Cam’s brow raised a little in understanding. He had been curious to know why she wanted so desperately to sell some perfumes. It was to buy a gift for someone.

But she could have just used the card he knew the boss gave her. He could never understand why people chose to suffer when a better option was presented to them.

"I insist Fay. You have a gorgeous talent that must be appropriately rewarded. What do you think?"

"Me?" Cam touched his chest when he realised the billionaire was staring at him.

Fay, turned hoping to get Cam to agree with her, just by staring at him.

He purposely ignored her stares, and returned the billionaires. "I think the madam doesn’t know how to evaluate her hard work, but it’s a given. She wouldn’t usually sell. I also think the price you’ve chosen to pay is high, but if you feel she’s worth that, then there’s no point arguing." He shrugged to appear nonchalant.

Fay glared at him. He was supposed to support her, not pursue some male solidarity bullshit.

"You heard that? I think you’re worth this and more. Keep the cheque," he lifted his arms, amidst a brief pause. "I think I have to leave now."

"But the car—wait, no! I’m not accepting this check!"

"Sorry darling, you have to."

One of the repair guys stepped forward. "Sir, your car is ready."

Xylon turned around , ignoring Fay who was clearly not comfortable with the money he offered her, and wasn’t shy to vocalise her displeasure.

Halfway towards his car, he paused, and turned. Ralph, already excited they were finally leaving, pressed his fingers against his flesh when his boss began walking back to Fay.

"Thank God you came back. Have you realised now how ridiculous this price is?"

"Nope. But I realised that I didn’t get your number. Shouldn’t we correct that?" He flashed her one of those smiles of his, and she felt her heart melting.

With a start, she paused, and frowned. "I’m not going to give you my number until you correct this cheque." She shook her head stubbornly.

He sighed. There was a fire to her he had not sensed before. It made the pursuit even sweeter. "Can I ask you a question?"

"Go ahead." She nodded.

"Say in the long run, you decide to go full scale, and monetize your passions. Wouldn’t you want your business to be valued at a price you can be proud of?" He asked.

"Sure."

"Good. Think of this money as an investment for when that day comes. You’ll remember Xylon Bass was the first person to believe you’re worth more than you see yourself. Also, keep the number. I’m going to find a better way to see you again."

He turned to leave, but paused for the third time. "Oh and don’t bother to pay for the car. Goodbye beautiful Fay."

He waved behind his shoulders, and resumed walking.

Fay was too stunned to speak. She watched him get into his car, and his driver drove away.

She was still standing there when she felt a hand on her. A shiver ran through her, as she turned.

"What?" She questioned Cam.

"Our car is ready. Do you want to go home now?"

"Home?" The word echoed in her head.

No, she didn’t want to go home. It was going to take an additional minute to get over what she had just experienced. After that, she had to think of how to cash out that much money, and then take it to a store.

"Cam, how do you cash a check from a bank?"

He smiled. "That I can do, Mrs Fay."

He led her to the car, and drove away. He could tell she was still in shock, and it amused him.

It took him a while to realise she didn’t really know how dangerous her beauty was. Maybe because she was always indoors.

Now that she was going out more, she was bound to meet men who would want to move the world for her.

Except there was a dangling factor in her world of discovery. Her husband, who was his boss.

It would be interesting to see if she would tell him about this encounter. Better her than him.

"Cam, do you know about this Xylon Bass guy?" She asked in a tiny voice, and he knew it was all she could think about.

"He’s pretty famous. A billionaire," he replied.

"A billionaire?" She gasped. "Why was he so casual around me?"

"Because he likes you."

"What?!"

"Why do you think he bought all three of your perfumes, and gave you extra money?"

"Because he’s really nice?"

He couldn’t stop the chuckle that escaped his throat.

"Oh Mrs Fay, I think with time, you’ll learn men are rarely nice without motives. And you give a man enough motivation to move the world for you."

She sat with frozen limbs, wondering what the hell she had gotten herself into.
