THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY
Chapter 122: PROJECTION

Chapter 122: PROJECTION

"That girl has gotten under your skin, you’d admit. She seems to be everything you talk about. Fay, Fay, Fay." She broke into a feat of laughter, further angering him.

"Why did you make her go with you, when you knew she was coming to see me? I don’t go at you when you bend the rules to fit your sickness, why won’t you stop attacking me?"

"Oh now you want to play victim?" Her laughter instantly ceased. "You made the rules about the boss’s entrance. I was just following it. Besides, when she deceived me by telling me she was shopping and decided to get something for you, I felt pity and let her go. I even followed her to your office. How much kinder could I be?"

"Nonsense! You’re lying through your teeth right now. Between the time you took her away, and brought her back, you must have done something to her. It would explain why she refused to wait for me."

"Don’t look like a fool throwing out accusations. Sometimes the door is made of glass."

"Don’t give me those shitty parables. If you have something to say, say it to my face. You’ve never held back before, so don’t look like a saint holding back."

She laughed again, enjoying the distress in his voice. His anger was all she needed to confirm he had seen those pictures.

Now she couldn’t wait to add more gasoline to the fire. She may not have won the battle today, but by the time she left the walls of the hotel, she would be leaving with a content heart. Knowing that there was one more fracture to the annoying relationship between Ace and his wife.

"Since you’re so curious my dear, allow me feed that curiosity. When I was going with her to my office in hopes you’ll be told I had taken her, and come confront me yourself, I had a change of heart like I said. Then I remembered I had seen you going into a room on my way out," she paused, and watched the reaction on his face.

Ace didn’t know the direction her words were headed to, but he sure knew she was about to burn him good.

"Trying to be a nice aunt," she continued, seeing he was not yet in the position she wanted him to be. "So I told her I had seen you go into a room, and that she should go check if you were still there."

His heart rate surged through the roof. So many thoughts formed in his head at once. If it was the same room he had been with Makayla, then— he paused, unable to continue with that thought.

"When I returned, she was standing beside Jason, a little flustered. She didn’t allow me to ask him any questions, so I figured she didn’t want me to know anything. Anyway, that was when she told me she didn’t see you in the room I asked her to check. So I took her to your office. The end."

She smirked internally, because she had purposely withheld a lot of things that had actually happened to cast doubt in his mind.

If she had told him Fay probably chanced in on whatever he had going with Makayla, hence her tears, his anger would turn to himself. Now she had done enough to get him to doubt.

"You’re sure Fay said she didn’t see me?" He asked.

He knew he was being a hypocrite. If she had seen him kiss Makayla, he would be apologising. But judging from what Celine had divulged, she had done something shady with Jason. Something he needed to know before he lost his mind.

"Her words. You can ask her if you like.

Anyway, my dear nephew, I would love to stay here with you, just to listen to your marital woes, but unlike you, I have a life. Spades is one of them. Remember? The company you’re supposed to be the president of? Anyway, I’ll be returning there. I hope you have the day you deserve."

She walked to the door, and stopped. "Oh, and one more thing, be careful with that Jason boy. He’s as much a looker as you are. I hear the ladies go crazy for him too. Your wife may be your wife, but she’s still a woman."

Sealing the seed of doubt she had already planted, she walked out of the room, and slammed the door shut.

Ace staggered as soon as he was alone, his palm grappling his forehead. He didn’t want to believe it. He couldn’t afford to believe it. There was no way Fay would really do anything that would jeopardise their marriage with Jason.

She hadn’t done it with Alexander, and he had more chances that any other man that wasn’t him. Surely, Jason wouldn’t be someone she would have anything disturbing to do with.

But there was only one way to find out the truth. He had to find Jason.

Straightening himself, he hurried out of the room, and went in search of him.

After asking the first three staff he came across, he accepted his fate. He had come too late. Jason had returned abroad. But he was going to come back in a few days.

A few days that was enough to change everything, if the nagging questions in his heart continued.

Solemnly, he pushed open his office door, and stepped in. Landon jumped to his feet immediately he saw him sulk in.

"What is wrong with you, man?" He asked.

He didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he walked to his seat, and flung himself on it.

"Ace?!" Landon snapped a finger across his face.

He lifted his head, and there was a blank expression on his face. Reaching into his pocket, he searched for his phone. When his hand grabbed it, he hoisted a little so he could pull it out..

He went straight to the pictures, and shoved it in Landon’s face.

"What am I supposed to be seeing?" He asked as he accepted the phone.

His eyes widened when he saw the picture that had to be the reason his friend was bent out of shape.

"This is Fay?"

"Look at the hair, man. Who else do you know has hair like hers?" He asked, momentarily finding his voice.

"True. But I’m still not sure what I’m supposed to be—" his words trailed as he scrolled to the next picture.

Yeah that was Fay, alright. And the guy she was hugging looked oddly familiar. It took him a few seconds to put a name to the side profile. "Jason?" He echoed his thoughts.

"Look at how cosy they are, bro. This was right in the hotel too. Probably the reason she refused to wait around for me," his brow suddenly snapped as a thought formed in his head. "What if they left together? The staff told me Jason had checked out until the weekend. What if they’re together as we speak?"

"Okay don’t be weird now, Ace," Landon eyed him carefully. "You still don’t know what the relationship between the two is. From what I can see, he was clearly comforting her."

"By kissing her?"

"I don’t see a kiss. They’re close, but not close enough for a kiss," he said, as his eyes zoomed into the picture.

"You don’t know they were just kissing. If there was nothing to it, why would she not allow Celine to question Jason when she walked in on them?"

"How did you get that piece of information?" His eyes left the screen briefly.

"Celine told me."

Landon shook his head as a short laughter erupted from his throat. "And you believe her? When has Celine ever been a beacon of truth? Can’t you see she’s trying to turn you against your wife by planting seeds of distrust in your head? Does Fay look like the kind of woman to just allow any random man to kiss her?" He scoffed. "You have a gem for a wife, but you can’t even trust her."

"Land—"

"No, Ace! That girl has gone through more than enough, your own words. She still has to deal with the possibility Reign may be carrying your child," he lowered his voice, and leaned forward. "It may be a contract marriage, but you would agree she doesn’t deserve the shit she has experienced so far. The least you can do is have some faith in her. In what more ways can I say this to you?" He flipped in exhaustion.

"I don’t know, man. Why wouldn’t she stay to see me? Or maybe I’m just projecting," he said in a suspicious tone.

"What have you done now, Ace?" Landon asked in an accusatory tone.

Ace sighed. After Landon had shamed him good for even daring to think Fay would be dishonest, he was beginning to think it was just his guilty conscience.

"Makayla kissed me. Twice," he confessed.

"What?!"

"I shut it down," he quickly followed up. "I did, both times. But when Celine told me she pointed Fay towards a room she had seen me go in, I got scared. Because—"

"What if Fay had witnessed the kiss?" Landon completed.

He nodded, and sighed. "I’ve put her through a lot, Lan. I just want to make things right with her."

"Then you have to start by not projecting your sins onto her. If I had a woman like Fay, I would never let go. Wake up, before it’s too late Ace. I’m leaving."

He dropped the phone on the table, picked up his suit jacket he had tossed on the couch, and turned around.

As the door shut behind him, Ace was left to deal with the disappointment that hung in the air. He squeezed his eyes shut, and hung his head in shame.
