THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY
Chapter 107: TIPTOE

Chapter 107: TIPTOE

Fay’s heart clamped when the car stopped moving. It only meant one thing; they were back to Ace’s house.

She wasn’t sad because she would have to go into her big bedroom, and sleep in her big bed, whilst having servants at her beck and call. She was sad because despite her earlier reservations, she had actually enjoyed her time with the matriarch, and now it was time to say goodbye.

"Until another day," the matriarch said as if reading her thoughts.

"Sorry?" She whipped her head towards her.

"I said, we’ll meet up another day. I’ll show you the redesign plan for Glam, and you’ll tell me your thoughts. Deal?" She stretched out her hand.

"No."

"No?" Her brow lifted.

"I prefer a pinky promise," Fay said, projecting her pinky finger.

The matriarch laughed heartily. "You’re such a breath of fresh air, Fay. A really amazing breath of fresh air." Her smile remained, as she locked in her pinky finger with her grandson’s wife.

"Remember Fay, you can’t tell Ace anything about our plans. Soon, we’ll go into the well crafted art of seducing Ace Atticus. Are you ready for that?"

Her heart rate tripled in action. Seducing Ace Atticus was something she had hoped— no, prayed not to come up.

Mostly because she still wasn’t completely certain it was possible.

Not if Reign King was his type, and she was well— her.

"I won’t lie and say I am, but I can be."

"That’s a good enough answer for me. I hope you enjoy your ice cream, sweet Fay. See you another day?"

"Definitely."

Fay smiled, as she hopped out of the car. She stood, making sure the matriarch’s car was well on its way, before she turned to the gate.

Taking a deep breath, she approached the giant creation, created in the form of a wing.

Everytime it opened, and its wings spread, her breath caught against her chest. Yet, she couldn’t quite get enough of it.

"Frank," she whispered, as if he would magically hear her all the way from the tiny room that served as his stand when he was on duty.

You’re being ridiculous, Fay, she thought as she stood whispering his name.

Holding a bold breath, she knocked on the gate.

She held on to that breath even when she heard footsteps. And held on to it tighter, whilst chucking herself into a corner, in case it was Ace, and not Frank that appeared.

She began to hear whispers. At first she thought they were just fragments of her imaginations..

Not until she saw a two finger wave. "Mrs Fay?" the voice called again.

She released the breath she was holding, as his voice registered in her head. That was definitely Frank. She became familiar with him only today, but it had been a pretty dramatic first encounter.

"It’s me, Frank!" She called, rolling her eyes at the fact he still used the two finger method he claimed he was going to use to identify it was her, when she returned.

With pristine meticulousness, and carefulness so as not to make too many noises that would alert the house, he began to open the pedestrian gate.

After what felt like forever, he was finally able to unlock it.

"Here," she pushed a bowl containing hot chicken wings into his hands, and dashed forward without saying another word.

She had fulfilled her own end of the bargain. There was no need for more conversations between them.

Step by step, she tiptoed towards the house. With her body ducked, she listened for sounds. Anything that sounded like Ace.

It remained a mystery to her why she was trying her hardest to keep her recent activities away from him.

The time she used to sneak in, she could have used to come up with a lie that would enable her to go see his grandmother without fear of him finding out.

"Who are you kidding, Fay?" She chided herself internally. "You can’t lie to save your life."

It was the biggest reason she was glad Ace had chosen to avoid her. She could sneak in and out without fear of being confronted.

"Ironic, considering how you’re sneaking around," one of the voices in her head arose.

"Not now," she muttered, shoving it behind her mind.

She reached the door, and silently knocked on it.

When it didn’t open, she thought there wasn’t any force to her initial knock.

Raising her hand to knock again, she almost jumped out of her skin when the door suddenly opened, and she was dragged inside.

"What the—"

"Shhhh, Mrs Fay!"

She raised her head to see it was just Alice and Marilyn.

"Oh God! You scared me!" She grabbed her thumping heart, waiting for it to settle, as the both women stared at her wordlessly.

A few seconds passed, when Marilyn opened her mouth to speak, after a nod of encouragement from Alice.

"Welcome Mrs Fay, but there seems to be trouble," she lowered her voice to a whisper.

"Ace is home, isn’t he?"

"Not just that, but your friend, the doctor, came to see you."

"Alexander?!" Her brow snapped, her voice raising more than she wanted, or they needed.

"Lower your voice, Mrs Fay!" Alice chided in a vibrant, yet low tone.

"Sorry," she whispered. "What did Ace do to him? Is he okay?"

Both women frowned, as they exchanged quick, confused glances.

"What are you talking about, Mrs Fay?" Alice asked.

"Marilyn said, my friend, the doctor came around."

"Yes. She was talking about Dr Nice. Your friend."

"Oh My God, Leighton!"

"Mrs Fay!" Both women called at the same time, gesturing a silencing finger to their lips.

"I’m sorry," she repeated, lowering her voice.

"Did she leave? Why’s that a bad thing?" She continued, after a few seconds of making sure her tone had been regulated.

"She’s in your room right now, waiting for you. We told her to pretend you’re in the room with her. Sir Ace also thinks you’re in the room with her."

"Oh—" she bobbed her head, seeing how that could be a problem. "What’s that?" She pointed at the tray Marilyn was holding.

"It’s a bottle of water, drinking glass, fruit juice, some light snacks, and grapes," she listed everything on it, as if they couldn’t tell by looking. "Doctor Leighton asked for some water, but I thought if I brought all of this, I could tell Sir Ace I also brought some things for you. I mean, just in case I encounter him of course."

"And where’s he right now?"

"Last time I saw him, he was on his way to his office. I know he usually spends a lot of time there. But you have to wait here until I check, and ensure that the coast is clear."

"Wait!" She stopped Marilyn before she could take any steps.

"What, Mrs Fay?"

"Could you add this to the items on the tray please?" She reached into the bag she was holding, and pulled out a plate of ice cream. She followed it up with a bucket of wings.

"The other bucket is for you and Alice," she said, handing the bag to Alice.

"If you had wanted chicken, why didn’t you just tell me, Mrs Fay? I could have made some of my delicious wings for you," Alice said in a hurt voice.

"Common, Alice. It’s no big deal. Sometimes, it’s good to also help a business. Besides, the matriarch bought it for me. I couldn’t possibly have rejected it, could I?"

"Of course not," she swiftly bowed in her way of apologizing. "If the matriarch bought it, then I’m going to enjoy every bit of it."

"Good of you, Alice. Very wonderful!" She gave her a thumbs up.

Marilyn sighed, as her eyes glared between her friend and her mistress. "Do you two understand the gravity of the situation we’ve found ourselves in?"

"Yes."

"Definitely."

They nodded at the same time.

"I don’t think so. If you did, you’d take this more seriously."

She shook her head in disappointment, and turned around with the tray in her hand.

"Why’s she extra sensitive?" Fay whispered to Alice, as they watched her walk up the stairs.

"You noticed too? Isn’t that like my thing?"

"I know right."

She suddenly turned her head behind, and they jumped apart, pretending to look at everything else but forward.

Marilyn rolled her eyes, and continued up the stairs.

She was getting pretty confident that Ace had gone up to his office.

If he had, then they were safe for at least two hours.

The days he returned from office only to go to his home office were usually hectic.

Poor man was working himself to death. She made a mental note to plead with Alice to prepare one of her rejuvenating chicken soup for him.

If she had to, she would force him to drink every drop until the plate was scraped dry.

"Marilyn, do you think you can walk like a normal human? At least raise your head whilst walking."

A shudder ran through her at the thick voice that suddenly invaded her thoughts.

"Si–sir Ace," she muttered, as she slowly lifted her head to meet his intense piercing gaze.
