THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY
Chapter 105: HIDE-SEEK

Chapter 105: HIDE-SEEK

Ace’s car slowed down in front of his gate when Cam, who was driving, spotted a woman standing by the gate.

He rolled his head behind to speak to Ace, and found his eyes locked on his screen.

"Sir?" He called cautiously.

"What is it?" Ace asked, neither lifting his head up, nor pausing his action on his phone.

"There’s a woman standing by the gate. She looks really familiar too."

"Well, go check who she is then." He continued on his phone, too distracted to really allow what Cam had just told him to settle in his brain.

It was all the fault of his stupid shipment officer. Just when he had given the go ahead for investigations to begin against his grandmother, the man had called to tell him customs had cleared his goods.

Landon told him that he should never have distrusted his grandmother, nor asked for her to be investigated.

Knowing how strongly his best friend felt about the situation, he had asked Grant in secret to continue with the investigations.

With that out of his mind, he was focusing on tracking his shipment.

These were pretty important tools for the new company he was going to be announcing soon.

If anything so much as got missing amongst the goods, it wouldn’t be possible to make the company’s ownership a public announcement.

Everything had to be set in place before the day picked by the stakeholders. Everything down to the behaviors of everyone for and against him.

Cam sighed when he realized his boss wasn’t going to answer him more than he had already done.

Pushing the car door open, he stepped out, and walked over to the woman who had a confused expression on her face.

"You!" She pointed forward, her eyes sparkling with delight when she saw Cam. "I saw you back in the hospital. You know Fay, right?" She asked.

The second her thick English accent drafted into his ears, he was catapulted back to the hospital.

There were two people he had heard with that accent recently. The two who happened to be doctors.

"Doctor Leighton?" He called.

"Yes! It’s me. I came here to see Fay, but the gate guy wouldn’t let me explain. He said his boss asked him not to open the gate for anyone. I told him to at least call Fay for me, but he shook his head, and walked away silently," she whined prettily.

It was pretty in his ears because of her accent. In fact, he could listen to her talk all day. And he planned on staying in her presence a little longer when he heard a sound.

At first, it sounded like God in heaven judging him for even dreaming above his class, until he heard the honk the second time.

It wasn’t God, but it was pretty much closer to him when it came to the respect he commanded.

Ace Atticus, probably tired from sitting still in the car, had honked to draw his attention.

"Excuse me please." He smiled at the doctor, before returning to the car.

"Who’s that?" Ace asked, his brow snapped together with confusion.

"I told you there was a woman standing by the gate. You asked me to go check who she is," Cam explained.

"I did?" He cocked a brow, getting further confused with himself. "Well, who is she?" He asked.

"Doctor Leighton."

His eyes snapped with recognition. "The doctor from the hospital? But why’s she here?"

"She wants to see Mrs Fay."

"So why’s she standing by the gate?"

"The gate guy wouldn’t let her go in. He said you gave him strict orders not to let anyone go in."

"And why didn’t he call either Marilyn or Alice to confirm who she was?" He asked, his voice rising just a tad bit harshly than he wanted.

It was because he didn’t want Fay to think he was restricting her friend from seeing her.

In the beginning, he did want to restrict her movements and all of that. But now that he had erred, he needed to be in her good graces.

Part of being in her grace was not making her think he was trying to isolate her.

If it was Alexander standing there instead, he would have supported the gate guy with a raise. But since it was Leighton, he felt horrible that she had to stand out there, all by herself.

"I guess he was just scared."

He was pulled out of his mind quick enough to hear what Cam just said.

"Sca—" he was asking when the puzzle completed itself in his head. "I’m guessing the person at the gate is Frank? It’s no wonder he hasn’t bothered to step out despite hearing the honk of the car."

"He’s a good guy, but pretty forgetful." Cam quickly came to his defense.

He felt deeply for him. Everytime he opened his mouth to narrate his ordeal before he finally got this job, he felt even more sorry for him.

Time and time again, he had tried his best to keep him to speed with the requirements of a good gate guy. Time and time again he had failed to learn.

"Call him. If he doesn’t open this gate in the next ten seconds, he can kiss his job goodbye."

Cam had already whipped out his phone even before Ace was done talking. As he dialed, he also honked, hoping the two signals would hasten his steps.

Leighton, tired of standing alone, walked over to the car.

Cam had moved to the gate, so she easily replaced herself at the spot he had just left.

She moved her hand to knock on the window when it rolled down to reveal Ace Atticus.

Her heart did a double take. He was really a handsome man. Because he was married to her friend, she let that realization drift away. But being met with his face, despite the dim of the night, was an awakening of that realization.

"Good evening doctor Leighton," Ace said calmly.

"Good evening. Sorry I dropped by. I just wanted to check on Fay since I had some free time," she explained.

He bobbed his head slowly. "My driver said so. You’d excuse my gate guys lack of critical thinking. If he had called my wife to confirm your identity, you wouldn’t have to spend all that time standing outside."

"Oh it’s okay," she smiled nervously, realizing that the last time they saw each other had been truly intense. He wanted his wife by all means, despite her state. Regardless of the coldness she had seen the media portray him as, she couldn’t help but feel he really loved Fay. If it was true, then good for her friend. She had found herself a real man. She thought, a little envious.

Alexander had gone mute after Fay left. The little spark of joy that used to sizzle between them even as friends was no more.

Things had gotten awkward really fast, and she was already considering moving out of the house.

Maybe it was time to be alone. Maybe it was time to nip the dream of herself and Alexander ever being a thing.

He was in love with her best friend, and she would only be a fool to pretend that she could do anything to thwart those feelings.

Ace was lifting his arms to check his time when the gate flew open.

Cam returned, and immediately jumped into the car.

"Sorry boss, don’t be mad." He apologized on behalf of the gate guy as he drove the car into the compound.

Leighton, standing in the same spot alone, intertwined her nervous fingers.

"Please come inside, ma’am," she heard a voice say, and lifted her head to see the gate guy from before.

"You—" she pointed an accusatory finger at him, too shaky to piece up the right words she wanted to use on him.

"I’m sorry, Miss— doctor—- madam," he bowed. "I really didn’t know you were a friend of Mrs Fay."

"Close the gate, and open the pedestrian gate for her to go through, you fool," Cam, who had already alighted from the car and walked over to scold the gate guy on behalf of Ace, called from behind.

"There’s no need to do all of that. I’ll just go in through this space," she said, already walking into the compound.

Cam couldn’t help his smile as she walked past him and went over to Ace who was standing by the car.

"Can I go in?" She asked, one eye on him, and the other on the compound she was totally mesmerized by.

It took all but ten seconds to be captivated by the mansion. This was the personification of opulence. Never in their wildest dreams could they have believed they would live in a place like this, growing up the way they did.

Good for Fay for actually finding herself in a castle.

"Sure," he sent a text, and pushed his phone into his pockets. "Let’s go."

"He’s coming in!" Marilyn jumped away from the window, and turned to Alice.

"What are we going to do now?" Alice joined in panicking.

"I don’t know. I don’t know how we can hide Mrs Fay’s outing with the matriarch," Marilyn said, biting her fingers in horror.
