Chapter 268: Chapter 267 Ivy River is an Idiot
As the host finished speaking, Evelyn King sighed helplessly and glanced at Ivy River before walking out slowly.
Ivy River still hadn’t shown up.
She had just gotten up from her bench and was walking over unhurriedly.
The host, curious, asked, "Excuse me, but where is Doctor River? Is she late?"
Evelyn King could only respond awkwardly, "She’s coming, she’s coming. Doctor River isn’t feeling well today."
Lewis Chadwick heard this and instantly felt a chill run down his spine.
Damn, this little lady sure knows how to keep him on edge at critical moments...
Doctors from Riverland Hospital, recognizing Ivy River, couldn’t help but urge her softly, "Doctor River, please hurry a bit..."
Ivy River replied indifferently, "Alright, don’t rush."
Everyone watched as she slowly walked to the stage and then directly to her designated spot.
She didn’t even look a bit embarrassed.
It was as if she was born for this stage.
The host immediately said when Ivy River appeared, "Okay, we’ve had a little hiccup just now. For the doctors coming up next, please follow along and don’t fall behind."
Upon hearing this, Ivy River unapologetically rolled her eyes.
So naggy!
She scanned the surroundings.
Evelyn King, noticing what she was about to do, immediately whispered, "Ivy River! Calm down, the audience is full of VIPs. You can’t act recklessly here."
Ivy River pouted helplessly, "Alright then."
The surrounding doctors were instantly stunned to hear this.
Who is she really?
There aren’t many people Evelyn King would speak to that way.
Soon.
All the doctors had made their way on stage.
The host announced the rules of the selection, "Doctors have ten patient files in front of them. Review and note down the solutions. The top 20 doctors with the shortest time and highest accuracy will advance. If there’s a tie, the spots will be adjusted accordingly."
"Now I announce, the competition officially starts! Doctors, you may begin. Every second counts, go for it! Best of luck to everyone for excellent results."
The doctors had only a table with a stack of patient files in front of them. Behind them was a huge screen with a timer.
Ivy River picked up a patient file, glanced at it, then placed it back on the table.
She surveyed her surroundings.
All unfamiliar faces, all focusing intensely on their answer sheets.
To ensure fairness, the organizers had spaced out all the doctors to prevent any known colleagues from chatting.
Ivy River felt a bit tired sitting there, watching the seconds tick away.
But she didn’t move her pen.
Though she was in a fairly central position, making it easy for the host to see what she was doing. The host approached out of curiosity and asked, "Hi, can I ask why you haven’t started writing yet? Is there a problem?"
Ivy River replied coldly, "No problem, I’ll write in a bit."
"Doctor River, we should use our time wisely. Only the top 20 can advance; this is a precious spot. Good luck!"
After the host tried to persuade her, he turned to the doctor next to her and couldn’t help but commend aloud:
"Wow, the doctors around Doctor River are all writing furiously, afraid to be eliminated if they relax for even a second. Doctor River, hurry up! You’re representing Seaton Medical University! Time waits for no one, go, go, go!"
Everyone could understand the underlying meaning.
If Ivy River didn’t advance, it would be Seaton Medical University losing face.
But Ivy River still didn’t budge, even changing her sitting position, crossing her legs.
The host was dumbfounded. Shaking his head, he went on to announce other doctors’ progress.
Lewis Chadwick was very anxious in the audience, clenching his fists involuntarily.
He kept his eyes fixed on Ivy River but didn’t dare say a word.
Alexander Hodges, sensing his tension, said calmly, "Don’t worry, my sister-in-law must have a plan. Since she decided to participate, she will surely make it to the final round!"
"I’m not worried, I’m not worried..." Lewis Chadwick repeated, but his gaze never left Ivy River.
He wished he could go up and finish the exam paper for her!
Alexander Hodges continued to reassure him, "Trust me, Seaton Medical University will prevail in the end."
Lewis Chadwick finally couldn’t help but mutter.
"Alexander Hodges, it’s already been ten minutes. Others have completed two or three cases, but Ivy River hasn’t moved. How am I supposed to trust you? I know she’s capable, but what if she doesn’t know the written material? I’d be doomed!"
Alexander Hodges remained composed, "Don’t worry, she knows what she’s doing. She wouldn’t have agreed to join the competition if it wasn’t important to her."
Lewis Chadwick continued to grumble.
Fifteen minutes later.
Ivy River finally started writing, swiftly noting down her solutions on the patient files.
It was almost like she wasn’t even thinking, just writing effortlessly.
The judges began discussing:
"This young girl looks very composed. Quite impressive, no sign of panic."
"Not sure, I’ve never heard of Ivy River before. Maybe she’s a student from an overseas university? This level of composure is remarkable. Are our questions really that easy?"
"Maybe she’s just pretending. Our questions are tough; look at Jack Johnson, last year’s champion in the Traditional Medicine competition, still frowning over the problems. Our questions are definitely challenging, trust me."
All of them were bustling with their analysis.
Some doctors started turning in their answer sheets.
Others, seeing this, began to worry and sped up their writing.
Lewis Chadwick was utterly anxious, "This is bad, I think Ivy River is in danger! 25 people have already submitted their answers. Can she speed up a bit?"
Alexander Hodges, too, couldn’t help but fret, "Don’t worry, believe in my sister-in-law. She’s chosen to participate in this competition for a reason. It’s important to her."
"Is this what’s called ’important’?"
Lewis Chadwick pointed to the stage where Ivy River was still leisurely writing, his face full of anger.
Hospital officials from other institutions couldn’t help but comfort him, "Calm down, Chadwick. Maybe she’s using an obscuring technique. Just trust her."
"Exactly, Lewis. If you don’t trust Ivy River, why not let her join us? Riverland Hospital would welcome her with open arms."
The voice of Orion suddenly entered the conversation.
Lewis Chadwick’s brows furrowed even tighter, "What do you mean by that, Orion? Have you no shame? I’m warning you, don’t try to take advantage. Even if Ivy River doesn’t perform well this time, I’ll take responsibility for it!"
At these words.
Edwin Blake’s figure unexpectedly appeared in the hall.
The bustling noise around them instantly vanished.
Edwin Blake nodded towards the judges’ panel before taking a seat at the center of the VIP area.
His eyes fixed intently on Ivy River.
Alexander Hodges, noticing this, quietly moved to the front, "Bro, you’re here to watch my sister-in-law perform?"
Edwin Blake gave him a glance, saying little.
"But something seems off with her today. At first, she didn’t write anything, as if she was deep in thought."
Just as Alexander finished speaking.
Ivy River put down her pen and was about to wave.
The person collecting the files immediately noticed and walked over to her, with the host quickly following.
"Miss Rivers, have you finished?"
Feeling quite exasperated by the host’s question, Ivy River coldly replied, "Yes. Is there anything else?"
"No... but please stay. The judges will announce the results soon."
Though the host had encountered countless people, he was flustered by her current demeanor.
Ivy River nodded, glanced at the audience, and froze slightly upon seeing Edwin Blake.
