Chapter 196: Chapter 195: Suffering

She grew more and more excited.

It was almost Gale Wiles’ turn to get in trouble!

He might not have sobered up yet, but that didn’t matter.

Her Silver Needle could jab him awake!

She could watch the fun again.

Who would have thought that when she opened the door,

she’d see Gale Wiles leaning against the wall, bored, saying, "If you take this iron rod today, then next time I won’t find a savior for you."

Ivy River didn’t care; she headed straight for the warehouse based on memory.

Gale Wiles panicked, "Ivy, Fatty and Emmy were brought in to save you. You can’t be so ungrateful. Do you realize what kind of beating I’ll get if you take that stick?"

"Why does Dad want to hit you? Tell me," Ivy questioned with her soul.

Jonah Wiles was baffled, "I don’t know! I’ve been busy with things abroad lately and haven’t been home to annoy him. I’ve been working diligently and just can’t think of what I might have done to offend Dad."

Ivy nodded, "If you haven’t done anything wrong, then there’s no need to be afraid!"

Though she said so, she still took a wooden stick when she arrived.

Then, in a place where no one could see, she gently snapped the middle of the stick, and walked in carrying it.

Everyone seeing this craned their necks, eager to find out what was going on.

But seeing it was Jonah Wiles’ private meeting room, they silently averted their eyes, and stealthily moved closer, wishing they could press their ears against the study door.

Someone was about to be in trouble again.

If it wasn’t Ivy, then it had to be Gale; considering Jonah Wiles’ love for his daughter, it seemed the son was about to be spanked!

Ivy handed the wooden stick to Jonah when she went in, "Dad, my brother’s here."

Gale followed Ivy in with a sheepish grin, "Dad, what do you need me for?"

"Come over, kneel down!"

Gale didn’t hesitate for a second, kneeling as told.

Ivy whispered, "Fatty and Emmy are still here, Dad. Don’t go overboard, the kids might get scared."

"We’re not scared at all, Grandpa, you can beat him freely!" Fatty’s brows arched, saying earnestly.

Emmy nodded, cutely adding, "I’m not afraid either. Hehe, I’ve seen this scene many times."

Gale: "..."

Ivy: "..." She hadn’t taught them to say such things!

She frowned, "You two come down here, I’ll take you out. It might get too gory in here, what if it scares you?"

"Vincent, I’m your uncle. I give you anything you want, and now this is how you treat me?"

Gale shouted in discontent.

But his tone was full of helplessness and indulgence.

Fatty nodded, "Uncle, Grandpa’s getting old. While he still has the strength to hit you, let him, or what then?"

Emmy quickly added, "Besides, Grandpa can’t get too angry now. My mom said that if old people get upset, they’ll have emotional knots, which is bad for health. What if he gets sick?"

Jonah Wiles was amused by the little ones’ success in making him laugh heartily.

"You are truly Grandpa’s treasures, his little quilts. You’re better than your mom. How about staying with Grandpa here?"

Emmy immediately crossed her arms in a big X, "No way. If we stay with you, no one will play with Ann. Ann needs us, and so does Mom."

Fatty put his hand coolly in his pocket, "Wherever Mom is, that’s where I’ll be."

Jonah Wiles immediately turned his gaze to Ivy.

Ivy averted her eyes, "Dad, if there’s something you need to say, tell my brother quickly. Kneeling is exhausting."

Jonah coldly snorted, sarcastically, "Rest assured, I won’t force you to come back to Riverland. Just pop by more often when you’re happy and see this old man."

"What kind of talk is that!!" Ivy immediately retorted.

"It’s okay, kids have grown up. Sometimes I can’t control you. It’s like eight years ago when I wouldn’t let you marry him; you insisted on suffering by yourself, couldn’t stop you..." Jonah mused, then suddenly changed the subject, "Gale!"

His voice made everyone in the room stiffen.

"What’s up, Dad?" Gale asked.

"Why did you hide your sister’s return from me, even the fact she had kids? And why did you sneak off to Seaton without taking me!" Jonah questioned item by item, his voice authoritative and firm.

Ivy held her breath in fright...

Gale explained, "That was my mistake, but with two sudden new children, I feared you couldn’t handle it, what if..."

"And now I can handle it?"

"For a while now, haven’t I been by your side preparing you with stories about Ivy? Making you remember how good your daughter was, recounting childhood comparisons to you, wasn’t I helping you get familiar?"

Jonah’s eyes turned cold, "Do I need to thank you now?"

He couldn’t help but recall Gale continually nagging about Ivy.

Saying what if there were suddenly two more kids, what they’d do.

Asking if she’d get beaten if she returned, or be denied entry to the house.

Always babbling, until it drove him crazy.

In hindsight, it was all prep.

He should have seen this all along...

Gale kneeling rigidly, stated, "No, Dad, if you’re upset, just hit me to vent. I was wrong, I admit."

Ivy chimed in to ease the tension, "Dad, maybe give him a couple of hits to let off steam?"

Looking at Emmy in his arms, Jonah resignedly said, "Considering the kids, I won’t hit you today, but I’d like to discuss something with you."

"Go ahead, Dad."

Hearing this, Ivy’s heart raced uncontrollably; she interrupted, "Dad! No, what do you want to say?"

Jonah glared at her, stating firmly, "I’ll give shares to Emmy and Fatty, any objections?"

Gale replied without hesitation, "None."

Ivy was stunned, how could he agree so easily!

She quickly said, "Really, we don’t need it, Dad. I’ve given Fatty and Emmy enough, their destiny is their own to carve out in the future."

Gale earnestly replied, "Dad built the family fortune, as long as it’s kept in the family. Besides, giving it to you is perfect. I initially thought of discussing it with Dad."

Jonah was satisfied with the answer, "Fine, let’s split your sister’s shares for the kids, and your shares for your children. As for mine..."

"Leave yours for my brother! I don’t want it!" Ivy hurriedly interjected, in a panic, "I really don’t need it, Dad..."

"No, you need it."

Jonah and Gale both said in unison.

Ivy furrowed her brow, "We’ll discuss it later. The kids are too young now, it’s impractical. Better to have my brother manage my shares for now."

"I’ll split my shares three ways; you get two, your brother gets one. I worry he’ll bring back a wretched one. You’re already divorced and have kids, thinking of remarrying?"

Ivy paused, unsure if she would marry again...

"Probably...won’t remarry."

Standing outside, Edwin Blake couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief, his mouth curling into a slight smile.
