Chapter 185: Chapter 184: Cutting the Cake

"I really thought you didn’t prepare a gift for Dad."

Ivy River’s lips curled slightly, "Do I look like such a heartless person?"

Jonah Wiles got up and walked inside, tears streaming down his face.

The robust man, standing at six foot one, was now stumbling slightly due to panic.

Seeing this, Ivy River shivered and quickly moved to support him, "Dad, be careful. Even though Mom’s gone, she’s always with you, you need to stay strong."

Jonah Wiles pushed her away, not daring to look at Ivy River’s face, "Go out, don’t look at the code of my safe."

Ivy River stood there, chuckling helplessly.

After watching Jonah Wiles enter the room, she finally turned and went out.

Gale Wiles was outside greeting guests, "I’m sorry, my father is quite emotional today. My sister is back, and there are two children, so please be understanding."

Ivy River stood beside Gale Wiles, "After all these years, does he still react like this whenever Mom is mentioned?"

Gale Wiles nodded.

"If I’d known, I wouldn’t have designed it that way, sigh." Ivy River felt a bit guilty, as Jonah Wiles was getting on in years.

Gale Wiles put his arm around Ivy River’s shoulder, speaking with melancholy, "It’s okay, it’s been so many years, he should let it go."

"Let go and still not remarry all these years?"

Gale Wiles thought for a moment, "We have family, don’t we? Dad is a love-struck fool, and Mom, well, she was just unlucky, there’s nothing we can do, all the money was spent, and she couldn’t come back..."

Speaking of his mother,

A trace of darkness crossed Gale Wiles’ face.

His mother passed away when he was fifteen.

She and Jonah Wiles were childhood sweethearts, and they built everything from nothing together.

He remembered that his mother was in critical condition at the age of 35, her immune system compromised from long-term high-pressure work.

She even developed liver cancer.

After multiple rescue efforts by the hospital, she finally struggled on for another three years.

She passed away at the age of 38.

Jonah Wiles could not accept the tragic news, drinking excessively every day, not caring about the company.

But Gale Wiles was only 15, unable to uphold the large company.

Helpless,

He could only search through all the belongings his mother had left behind at home, and even found a letter hidden in a bookshelf.

Upon reading the letter, Jonah Wiles immediately gathered himself, no longer wallowing in despair.

Day by day passed.

One day, Gale Wiles came home from school to find Jonah Wiles bringing home a filthy little girl, now known as Ivy River.

Jonah Wiles explained that he saw her at a bus stop on the road, new to Riverland City, without support, and even had her money stolen.

Gale Wiles wouldn’t accept it, suddenly furious, thinking she was Jonah Wiles’ illegitimate daughter!

But when he finally saw the tender little face, he was shocked.

She looked just like his mother.

Both he and Jonah Wiles believed it was his mother’s arrangement, fate allowing Jonah Wiles to meet and bring her home.

So, this little girl was adopted and stayed with the Wiles family, protected and never shown to the public eye, always cherished.

Recalling this, Gale Wiles glanced at Ivy River.

Her face had grown increasingly aloof, less and less like his mother.

Her temperament and attitude towards doing things were not alike either.

Ivy River said coldly, "You had better hurry up and get married and have children, that’s what’s most important. You’re the only heir of the Wiles family; it can’t end with you."

Gale Wiles increasingly felt that Ivy River wasn’t the savior sent by his mother!

He whispered, "Dad isn’t rushing me like this, can’t you not be in such a hurry?"

"If I’m not in a hurry, will you go and create a mess for me? Do you know how long you tortured me last time with your poison, and there’s more..."

Ivy River went on endlessly.

Gale Wiles, with sharp eyes, saw Jonah Wiles coming out and immediately grabbed Ivy River’s arm, "Dad’s here, you should go check, isn’t that old man carrying Mom’s ring?"

In the next second,

They saw Jonah Wiles carefully take out a jewelry box from his pocket.

Then he opened it.

A five-carat pink diamond was taken out.

"This was the gift I bought for your mother after we made a fortune, and for many years, she couldn’t bear to wear it, fearing she might lose it."

As Jonah Wiles spoke, his eyes reddened again.

Ivy River was taken aback at first, then softly said, "I’ll combine all the elements Mom liked into one and create a more meaningful bracelet for you, okay?"

Jonah Wiles closed his eyes, and with a steely resolve, handed the pink diamond to Ivy River, "You must be very careful..."

As Ivy River took it, her heart was filled with mixed emotions.

She had always known why the Wiles family adopted her.

Mother Wiles’ photo had always been hung in Jonah Wiles’ bedroom; she had seen it when she went to play.

As she grew, she became more perceptive.

Jonah Wiles could not hide it from her, and simply laid everything out.

Ivy River accepted gracefully and directly changed her way of addressing, calling Mother Wiles "mother."

Since childhood, she had no parents, only her grandfather.

Later, when her grandfather passed away, she was left without support, and her unscrupulous aunt took everything from the house.

Helpless, at thirteen, she sold everything in her home, took the money, and began to drift.

Later encountering Jonah Wiles was indeed a stroke of luck, and she felt very grateful.

So, she decided to take good care of Jonah Wiles and Gale Wiles, as they filled the missing gap of affection in her life.

Now studying medicine, partly because of the reason behind Mother Wiles’ passing.

And also partly because she had been interested in traditional Chinese medicine from a young age, able to recognize most herbs just after reading through the encyclopedia once, an exceptional talent.

She later wholeheartedly delved into researching Chinese medicine.

Jonah Wiles nodded, "Thank you, Ivy."

Ivy River gathered herself, refraining from tearing up, pretending to be cheerful, "Shall we cut the cake? We’ve all given our gifts here, and everyone’s been waiting for so long."

Jonah Wiles instructed, "Alright, go call both of my eldest grandsons back, tell them we’re starting to cut the cake."

Ivy River glanced at Jonah Wiles sideways.

He stood beside the cake, wearing an elegant Zhongshan suit, black hair interspersed with white, his build very robust.

Yet Ivy River felt he had aged.

"Grandpa, Grandpa, we’re back, is it time to cut the big cake?"

"Quieter, Elsa, don’t you know this is a banquet? Your voice is too loud, it’ll disturb others."

The two little ones’ voices reached before they did.

Emmy paid no mind, continuing to shout as she ran towards Jonah Wiles.

Seeing this, Jonah Wiles picked her up in one swift motion.

Emmy immediately wrapped her arms around his neck, in her baby voice she questioned, "Grandpa, do you think my voice is too loud and will disturb others?"

Jonah Wiles was amused by this, smiling as he said, "No, you’re our family’s little princess, your mom’s the big princess, and whatever the princess does is never wrong."

Fatty standing on the ground felt helpless, "Grandpa, you’ll spoil her like this, come on down, Emmy."

Emmy clung even tighter to Jonah Wiles’ neck, "I’m not coming down, you couldn’t get a hug before and now you want me down, don’t think I’ll fall for that!"

Ivy River laughed and spoke, "Come down, your grandpa needs to cut the cake."

Jonah Wiles laughed out loud, waving his hand, "No need, I’ll cut the cake with Emmy in my arms, it won’t be a problem."

Seeing this, Emmy was very happy.

She made a silly face at Fatty, "Nyeh-nyeh-nyeh, I have princess treatment."

Fatty sighed helplessly, muttering softly, "Being favored over boys really doesn’t feel good!"

Edwin Blake watched Jonah Wiles hold Emmy and begin to cut from the top of the ten-tier cake.

For some unknown reason, he felt a pang of discomfort.

After all, she was his daughter!
