Chapter 157: Chapter 157: That Was His Beauty Trap

She closed the door, then pushed it open again.

After confirming she wasn’t seeing things, Ivy River turned her head in confusion.

And there was Edwin Blake, lazily reclining on the sofa, watching her.

Ivy asked puzzled, "Isn’t this my next-door neighbor’s house?"

Edwin nodded.

He thought, isn’t that obvious?

If it were really dozens of kilometers away, how could he have held back so long last night?

"So, the place being renovated next door was your house? You replicated your villa exactly?"

Edwin nodded again.

Ivy thought Edwin was crazy, "What exactly do you want?"

"Nothing, I just think this place has great feng shui, and I love the layout of that villa, so I moved over. You don’t think I’m doing this on purpose because of old feelings, do you?" Edwin countered.

Ivy sneered, pointing at Edwin, "We’ll settle this later."

Edwin shrugged, fearlessly saying, "Make sure to notify me in advance, or else I’ll sue you for unlawful entry—ten thousand bucks."

Ivy closed her eyes to calm her anger.

She took the two little ones and went home.

As soon as they entered.

Fatty blocked the door, stopping Ann with her tiny steps, spraying her with disinfectant and chanting,

"Dirty stuff, dirty stuff, go away, don’t come into my house, germs, germs, go away..."

After everything was done.

Ann immediately ran over.

Seeing the look in her eyes asking for a hug, Ivy quickly picked her up, "Did you miss godmother?"

"I did! Godmother, you’re working so hard, going out to work at midnight, aren’t you tired now? Why don’t you catch up on some sleep?"

Ann said, touching Ivy’s dark circles with concern.

Madeline Woods stood on the stairs, smiling mischievously, "Yeah, Ivy is working hard, go catch up on sleep."

Ivy awkwardly and guiltily said, "I slept last night, it’s fine. What do you want to eat, out or at home?"

Ann hopped down from her.

Considerately fetched slippers for Ivy and then untied her shoelaces.

"Godmother, quickly change your shoes and rest inside."

"Ann knows how to listen better than Emmy and Fatty."

Ivy praised her, smilingly picking her up to sit on the sofa.

"Hehe, you’re welcome."

Ann said shyly, covering her face.

Fatty unapologetically said, "Mommy, come upstairs with me."

Emmy chimed in her childish voice, "I have something I want to tell you too, Mommy, you should go upstairs."

"What do you want to say? Can’t you just say it here? Ann and your godmother aren’t outsiders."

Ivy felt a bit guilty, and she sent a pleading look to Madeline.

Madeline pretended not to see, "Better go upstairs to say it, Ann is still young, doesn’t know much, don’t lead Ann astray."

Ann looked at Ivy in confusion, tilting her head, "What do you mean lead me astray?"

Madeline patted her head, "Go watch TV, or play outside for a while, your godmother has some matters to handle."

"Oh! Alright then, we’re not going back home later?"

Madeline laughed, "Mom will be busy at home later. You’ll stay here with your godmother, and you can go to school together on Monday."

Ann nodded happily.

She didn’t ask further questions, just waved at Fatty and Emmy, "Hurry up, I want to play with toys with you later."

Fatty said in his typical adult tone, "Shall we go?"

Ivy, helpless, could only follow them.

In her heart, she cursed Edwin Blake thoroughly.

Damn it.

Every time she ran into him, nothing went smoothly.

Moreover, this guy was now inexplicably confident, not quite like before.

Like he’d become even more irritating?

Ivy dawdled up the stairs.

In that short distance, she drew countless circles mentally to curse Edwin Blake.

Upon entering the room.

Fatty directly sat on the chair inside, Emmy followed close behind.

Ivy felt no inclination to sit and softly asked, "What’s up? Why did you call me up here?"

"Where did you go last night? We were playing upstairs, and when we came down, you were gone."

Fatty coldly interrogated.

Ivy stammered, "I went to help someone with a medical issue, an urgent job."

"Then why were you at Edwin Blake’s place, and why were you two in that position!" Fatty’s face turned slightly red as he spoke.

Ivy thought for a moment and said, "He felt unwell this morning, I went to treat him."

Fatty didn’t speak, his eyes fixed on Ivy like he wanted to see through her soul.

Ivy, feeling uneasy from his look, sternly said, "Vincent River, get this straight, I am your mother, what kind of decorum is this!"

"I’m worried about your safety. A scumbag lives next door, and you’re such a romantic enthusiast, I fear you’ll get sucked in."

Fatty articulated confidently.

Hearing this, Emmy clapped, "Right, brother is right, this time I’m on brother’s side! Mommy, you can’t lose your head, that man is really bad!"

Fatty chimed in, "Don’t be lured by Edwin Blake’s charms, what exactly did you do last night, your clothes are different."

Ivy turned her head, unable to help but sigh, "My kids are growing up, they can think about mommy now."

"Don’t change the subject!" Fatty was unhappy, standing in front of Ivy.

Ivy, helpless, said, "Mommy is an adult now, whatever I do, I can tell right from wrong. Since I chose to divorce him back then, I had already made my choice."

"But you still haven’t told me where you went last night?" Fatty continued questioning.

Ivy rubbed her forehead, "I told you, I went to help someone with a medical issue, I couldn’t ignore an emergency at the hospital right? It’s a matter of life and death."

Fatty nodded.

Fine.

Both statements matched precisely.

"Then I’ll reluctantly believe you. What’s with the clothes though? I remember the wardrobe doesn’t have this set."

Fatty’s eyes were glued to her outfit.

Full of butterflies.

"Isn’t this the trendiest thing this year?" Ivy said without thinking, "Butterflies are the hottest trend in both jewelry and clothes this year. I bought this new, it’s normal you don’t recognize it."

Upon hearing this, Emmy immediately searched online.

After confirming it was indeed a trending element.

She nodded in agreement to Fatty, "Correct brother, everything matches, mommy didn’t lie."

Fatty finally relaxed, earnestly advised, "Mommy, we’re not stopping you from socializing, we’re just worried you’ll go astray. This was our poor judgment, next time if you’re staying out, you must tell us."

"Yeah, you don’t know, I didn’t sleep well last night!" Emmy quickly added in grievance, her big eyes blinking.

Ivy, looking at Emmy’s eyes, felt an inexplicable tightness in her heart.

She directly hugged Emmy, "This time it was mommy’s fault, I’ll definitely let you know in future, I’m sorry."

"It’s okay! Actually..." Emmy hesitated for a moment but continued, "Brother and I don’t mind having a stepdad, after all, you’re still young. If... you’re dating, remember to tell us."

Fatty nodded, "Exactly, just don’t go back to past relationships."

Ivy couldn’t help rubbing her temples, "Back then mommy divorced him and left everything behind, can’t that show my determination?"

Fatty observed her with a scrutinizing gaze.

After a long pause, he frowned, "Okay, let’s go downstairs, Ann must have been waiting for us a long time."

Ivy took them downstairs.

It wasn’t long before.

Fatty quietly sneaked upstairs, sat down at his computer with a solemn face.
