Chapter 48: Chapter 048: The Heart Can’t Deceive Itself

Sienna Johnson was fuming. Selena Robertson’s repeated obstruction of her escape had angered her. She picked up a rose-filled vase from the table and smashed it to the ground. CRACK! Everything went quiet.

Sienna’s cold gaze fell on Selena, her tone unfriendly. "Selena Robertson, have you forgotten who saved you? Do you think it was Sixth Master?"

"It was you." Of course, it wasn’t Sixth Master. Sixth Master wasn’t a good person; if Sienna hadn’t insisted on saving her, Sixth Master would have discarded her long ago.

"Since you know I saved you, and you don’t even think of repaying my life-saving kindness, yet you still obstruct my escape—what is this? Are you repaying kindness with enmity?" Sienna’s words grew severe.

Sienna looked at Selena, whose eyes had reddened, and sneered, "Or do you think Sixth Master is more capable than I am? That if you cling to him, you can live a carefree life?"

Selena burst into tears, shaking her head desperately. "No, it’s not like that... I never thought that way. I’m doing it for your own good..."

"Have you ever asked what I want?" Sienna interrupted.

Selena stared blankly, her large, watery eyes like those of a bewildered kitten. Sienna’s heart softened, but she maintained her cold expression. "I don’t want to be Sixth Master’s little wife! Where I come from, a man can only marry one wife! Even having a mistress is immoral! But Sixth Master already has a fiancée, yet he still forces me to be his woman. I don’t consider this happiness! For me, this is humiliation!"

Selena was silent. "Mai," Sienna continued, "do you still think this is for my own good?"

Selena said nothing, lowering her head to look at the porcelain shards on the floor, mulling over Sienna’s words.

"Let me be clear: I will not be anyone’s little wife. So, I’ll take every chance I get to escape. Selena, I saved your life. If you don’t help me, I won’t blame you. But if you dare stand in my way..."

Selena didn’t understand Sienna’s insistence on monogamy, but she understood the implication of her unspoken threat. "I’ll listen to you," she said. "I’ll do whatever you say. If you want to escape, I’ll escape with you. You saved my life. Wherever you go, I’ll go."

"Kiki, you’ll love the world I come from..." Sienna finally smiled.

Sienna was calling her Kiki again. Selena knew this meant Sienna wasn’t angry with her anymore and quickly nodded. "I’ll like it, I’ll like it! If Mai likes it, Kiki will like it too."

Sienna had successfully won over the naive Selena, and a flicker of hope rose in her heart. "Xavier," she said, "Kiki won’t snitch anymore. Go back and think about my suggestion."

Everyone on the island obeyed Adrian Desmond; his orders were absolute. Xavier Young was no exception. Sienna didn’t expect him to agree immediately.

Xavier said nothing and left Sienna’s room.

Only Selena and Sienna remained in the room. Selena choked back sobs as she cleaned up the mess. Feeling a pang of guilt, Sienna comforted her, "Don’t cry. It was my fault. I shouldn’t have said those things to you."

Selena wasn’t angry with Sienna. After she finished cleaning, she asked, "Are you sure you want to escape? Sixth Master... he really likes you. If he finds out you’ve run away, he’ll definitely look for you. If Sixth Master catches you... I’m afraid..."

"Sixth Master is busy right now; he doesn’t have time to bother with me."

Sienna didn’t even realize her own tone was sour. She turned her back to look at the azure sea and sky outside, the frustration still churning within her. Breaking that vase wasn’t entirely because Selena wouldn’t listen to me.

「Later that night」

The moon was bright, and the sound of waves crashing against the reefs echoed eerily. A man tossed and turned in bed, his face flushed, making strange noises.

AH...

Xavier suddenly woke from his erotic dream, the coldness of his surroundings jolting him to awareness. He’d had a wet dream. In the dream, Sienna lay beneath him, all charm and seduction, captivating his very soul.

"Damn it!" Xavier punched the edge of the bed. BANG! His underwear was damp. He turned on the light and looked, his face paling. A nocturnal emission. Xavier couldn’t accept this, even if it was just a dream. "Seductive witch!"

「At the hospital」

The entire sixth floor had been reserved by Adrian Desmond. Numerous bodyguards were stationed in the hallway, with even more concealed out of sight. This time, Adrian dared not be careless; he had arranged fifty top-notch bodyguards for Melanie Carpenter.

"Sixth Brother... I heard you have a woman?" Melanie asked.

Melanie Carpenter possessed a dignified beauty, with an oval face, thick eyebrows, and large eyes. Yet, her gaze conveyed a gentle and serene demeanor.

"Mm." Those familiar with Adrian knew that expression meant he didn’t want to elaborate. Melanie, however, was very interested in Sienna Johnson. "It’s rare for Sixth Brother to like a woman," she remarked.

"Your injury hasn’t healed yet; you need more rest. Even after it’s healed, try not to go out unless necessary," Adrian advised.

"Can I go to the island with you?"

If Sienna weren’t there, Adrian would probably have agreed to Melanie’s request. But he hadn’t quite figured out how to handle Sienna, and if he brought Melanie there, who knew what kind of chaos would erupt.

"Don’t be afraid, I’ve arranged more bodyguards for you. This kind of thing won’t happen again."

Adrian looked at the pale woman in the hospital gown, a wave of guilt washing over him. He had promised her uncle and aunt he would take good care of her, yet she had been shot because of him.

Melanie stretched out her pale hand and held Adrian’s darker one. "Sixth Brother, when will we get married?"

"When I’ve had my revenge!"

It wasn’t just Adrian’s enemy, but Melanie’s as well.

"Sixth Brother, honestly, as long as you’re safe and sound, it doesn’t matter if you get revenge or not..." She spoke from the heart, but her words didn’t seem to reach Adrian.

"You just woke up, and your body is still weak. You should rest." Adrian stood up. Melanie’s grip on his hand tightened as she asked wistfully, "When will you come to see me again?"

"I’ll come see you whenever I have time."

Melanie’s eyes dimmed. When would Adrian ever have time? "Please," she implored, "spend more time with me this time."

Adrian found it hard to refuse her plea. "Alright," he said, "I’ll come see you tomorrow."

Melanie wanted Adrian to stay at the hospital with her, but the conditions there were too poor for her to voice such a request. "Okay," she said instead, "then come earlier tomorrow."

"Mm."
