Chapter 250: Chapter 250: Visiting the Ancient Town

After breakfast.

Xiao Fei gave Bai Zheyan a phone call.

Not long after the call ended, Bai Zheyan arrived at Xiao Fei’s house with Bai Niangyu.

"Uncle Xiao~!"

"Aunt Tang~!"

"Good morning!"

As soon as she entered, Little Bai Niangyu greeted Xiao Fei and Tang Yuxin very politely.

But as soon as she finished speaking, Bai Niangyu couldn’t wait to ask, "Where’s Xinghe?"

It seemed this little girl especially liked Da Bao too.

Tang Yuxin smiled warmly at Bai Niangyu.

It’s often said you can see a child’s character by the age of three. Though Bai Niangyu wasn’t three yet, she was nearly there—next year she could already start attending kindergarten.

Her bright, intelligent eyes, large and spirited, paired with her soft, delicate voice, were absolutely delightful to listen to.

Her long lashes curled slightly, her small face carried a faint rosy hue—you could tell at a glance that she’d grow up to be a beauty.

If she really could become Da Bao’s wife in the future, Tang Yuxin figured she’d probably wake up laughing from her dreams.

But then, thinking about such things now was too early. How old were these two children anyway?

The future stretched far ahead, and who knew what could happen.

Tang Yuxin was just about to tell Bai Niangyu where Da Bao was when the sound of hurried little footsteps reached their ears.

Looking to the side, she saw the three little ones rushing out with Xiang Zilan and Little Bei following behind them.

"Little Yu~!"

"Little Yu is here~"

"Little Yu, Little Yu, Little Yu~"

Not only Da Bao, but Er Bao and Sanbao also adored their very first good friend, who was still their best friend so far.

Although there were many classmates in their early education class, the one they were closest to was Bai Niangyu. Somehow, the three little ones were especially fond of this adorable little girl.

"Isn’t she right here?"

Tang Yuxin chuckled and gently pinched Bai Niangyu’s cheek.

Bai Zheyan, on the other hand, turned to Xiao Fei and said, "Brother Xiao, I’ll leave this kid to you today."

"Why are you being so formal about it?"

Xiao Fei chuckled.

"By the way, is work okay on your end?"

"Taking such long leave for Little Yu’s mom..."

Bai Zheyan sighed. "As for work, I’m planning to resign."

"Oh?"

"Is that okay?"

"It’ll be fine."

Bai Zheyan shook his head, "I’ve saved up a decent amount over the years, enough to support us for a long time. Besides, I can take on freelance work online if needed."

"This way, I’ll have more freedom and time to take care of Atong."

When he said this last part, Bai Zheyan deliberately lowered his voice to keep Little Yu from hearing.

After a brief exchange, Bai Zheyan reminded Bai Niangyu to listen to Xiao Fei and Tang Yuxin, then took his leave.

Xiao Fei also prepared to set out.

Driving the car, with Tang Yuxin seated in the passenger seat and the four little ones in the back, they all headed for Jinlin Ancient Town.

Jinlin Ancient Town was located in the outskirts of Shanghai. As Shanghai City was enormous, driving from Star Moon Bay to the ancient town meant passing through the busiest traffic zones, making the journey rather slow.

By the time Xiao Fei and the others arrived at the ancient town, it was already close to noon.

After parking the car in the lot outside the town, everyone got out of the car.

Gazing at the quaint, traditional town before them, the little ones all let out gasps of amazement.

It was their first time seeing such sights.

Whether in Shanghai or back in Sichuan Province, they had always lived in urban areas. Even when they traveled before, it had been to well-developed tourist attractions.

But here, in this town full of traditional charm, the impact on the kids was noticeably stronger.

As soon as they got out of the car, the little ones began running around excitedly.

Tang Yuxin walked up to Xiao Fei, linked her arm through his, took a deep breath, and said with a sigh, "The air here isn’t quite as good as that hot spring estate we visited last time, but it’s still so much better than in the city."

"Of course. The air quality here is considered excellent in the area," Xiao Fei replied.

"Let’s go?"

"Go where?"

"Do you remember what I mentioned earlier?"

Tang Yuxin recalled what Xiao Fei had said during breakfast and couldn’t help but feel a tiny spark of anticipation.

With his wife and the kids in tow, Xiao Fei led them into the ancient town.

The town was built along a winding river. While the houses were low, their arrangement was charmingly uneven.

Each building featured overhanging eaves and intricate brackets, with golden wind chimes hanging from the roofs. Below the round wooden windows were flower-filled sills overflowing with vibrant blossoms.

The ground was paved with blue stone slabs, and scattered across the way were rough stone carvings and ancient steles, all artifacts that were at least a hundred years old.

Occasionally, small black boats quietly glided across the river. The boatmen paddled with long bamboo poles, operating the vessels in the most traditional way.

When the breeze blew, the golden chimes jingled gently, and floral fragrances wafted through the air.

It was hard to imagine how such a beautifully scenic town hadn’t been overly developed into a commercial tourist spot.

"Daddy, Daddy, this place is so beautiful~!"

Sanbao ran up to Xiao Fei with quick little steps and wrapped herself around his leg, looking up at him with crescent-shaped smiling eyes.

Xiao Fei crouched down, pinched Sanbao’s soft, chubby cheeks, and asked dotingly, "Do you like it?"

Sanbao nodded enthusiastically, her smile brimming with joy as she said, "I do!"

Xiao Fei began, "Not only is this place beautiful, but it’s also very old."

"Old?"

"That’s right."

Xiao Fei picked up Sanbao, letting her wrap her little arms around his neck, and explained as they walked, "This town was built during the Ming Dynasty."

"What’s the Ming Dynasty?"

"The Ming Dynasty refers to a period of time from long, long ago."

Sanbao shook her head. "Daddy, I don’t understand."

"That’s okay."

Xiao Fei gave her a kiss on the cheek. "As you keep learning more, you’ll gradually understand someday. Maybe in the future, you’ll know more than Daddy, and then it’ll be your turn to teach me."

"Sure, sure~"

Sanbao clapped her hands in delight. "I’ll be the one teaching Daddy... hehehe..."

Tang Yuxin chuckled as she tweaked Sanbao’s tiny nose and said, "Little one, if you want to teach Daddy, you’ll have to work very hard and study a lot."

"I’ll work hard!"

Sanbao nodded earnestly.

This little girl was truly the sweetest. Compared to Er Bao, she was like a warm, comforting little jacket.

Er Bao, on the other hand, was always up to some mischief. She was by far the most troublesome one at home.

Who knew what kind of mischievous whirlwind she’d grow into when she got older?

Lost in thought, Xiao Fei glanced over at Er Bao.

And there she was, standing in front of a shop, staring up at the skewers of grilled meat being sold, practically drooling.

Turned around and looking at Xiao Fei, Er Bao pointed at the meat skewers, her little mouth opening: "Daddy! Meat! I want to eat!"

Xiao Fei: "..."
