Chapter 248: Chapter 248 Bedtime Story

Kids, after all, are still very young and always want to play.

As soon as they heard that tomorrow, which was the weekend, they were going out to play, the little ones instantly couldn’t sit still.

That evening, as soon as they got home, the three little rascals started causing a ruckus right after having dinner.

They ran wildly around the house, chasing after Xiang Zilan and Little Bei, their bell-like laughter echoing now and then.

Xiao Fei, reading in the study, wasn’t bothered, but Tang Yuxin, watching TV in the living room, was genuinely getting a headache from the noise.

Especially since the kids kept running over to ask questions.

"Mom, can you go to bed?"

Tang Yuxin: "Huh?"

What was this kid even saying?

Why would they suddenly ask her to go to bed?

"Da Bao, why do you want mommy to go to bed so much?"

"Because when you sleep, tomorrow comes faster~!"

Da Bao gestured with their little hands, an innocent expression on their face.

Tang Yuxin was momentarily speechless.

She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

This kid’s thought process was truly amusing.

"Sweetie, whether Mommy goes to bed or not, time won’t go any faster, you know."

"Really?"

The three little heads crowded together, question marks practically visible above them.

Er Bao asked, confused, "But when we go to sleep, morning comes really fast?"

Sanbao nodded nearby, convinced Mommy must have been wrong.

Tang Yuxin found herself at a loss for how to explain this to her kids. She thought about seeking help from Xiao Fei but hesitated, knowing he was engrossed in his reading and didn’t want to disturb him.

Oh no, who could save her now?

The kids’ pure, wide sparkling eyes stared up at her, making Tang Yuxin feel inexplicably flustered.

How strange — her own children were making her nervous just by staring!

"Alright then, sweethearts, how about you head to bed?"

"This way, when you open your eyes again, it’ll be morning."

"Then we can go out and play, okay?"

"Really?"

"Really!"

And with that, the kids began sprinting toward their bedroom.

Tang Yuxin quickly got up to follow.

After all, before bed, the kids needed their faces, hands, and tiny feet cleaned — tasks that only Mommy herself could handle.

Without Xiao Fei to assist this time, Tang Yuxin managed to wash the kids’ faces and hands all by herself, then let them wash their own feet before tucking them into bed.

As soon as they lay down, Er Bao anxiously urged, "Da Bao! Sanbao! Close your eyes and sleep fast! Then tomorrow will come right away!"

Without a word, Da Bao and Sanbao obediently flopped down on either side of Er Bao.

Tang Yuxin tucked them in snugly. The little ones immediately closed their eyes like angels.

Standing nearby and watching for a moment, Tang Yuxin turned off the main light, dimmed the bedside lamp, and prepared to leave.

But just as she reached the door, Tang Yuxin suddenly heard Er Bao’s voice.

"Why isn’t it morning yet?"

"I’ve already opened my eyes so many times..."

"Me too..."

Tang Yuxin turned back to see the kids looking genuinely distressed with their little furrowed brows.

"Mommy, didn’t you say after we close our eyes and sleep, morning will come when we open them again?"

Sanbao, puffing out their cheeks in frustration, demanded, "Why isn’t it morning yet when we open our eyes?"

"Mommy, you didn’t lie to us, did you?"

Tang Yuxin thought for a moment, then walked back to their bedside, sitting down. She lowered her voice and said, "Well, you see, Mr. Sun is also resting right now. He hasn’t woken up yet."

"Then when will Mr. Sun wake up?"

"In a little while."

Er Bao immediately protested, "Mommy, can’t Daddy call Mr. Sun to wake him up?"

Tang Yuxin shook her head.

"No, sweetheart. Mr. Sun worked all day long and is very tired."

"We can’t wake him up, okay?"

"We need to let him rest well, so that tomorrow, when we go out to play, Mr. Sun will be happy and sprinkle warm sunlight all over you, making you feel cozy."

"How about Mommy tells you a story instead?"

"Okay!"

The kids were immediately distracted, their attention captured.

Tang Yuxin chuckled softly, feeling a bit proud.

Maybe she was doing okay as a mom after all.

"Once upon a time, in a castle, there was a princess who..."

"Was it Snow White?"

Da Bao suddenly interrupted.

"Huh? You’ve already heard about Snow White?"

"Daddy told us that one," Da Bao replied.

Left with no choice, Tang Yuxin sighed. Fine, she’d tell another one.

"A long, long time ago..."

"Cinderella! Heard it already~!"

"Once upon a time, on Gourd Mountain..."

"The Gourd Brothers? Heard that too~!"

"..."

Tang Yuxin was about to lose it...

She racked her brain for every child-appropriate story she could think of, but it turned out Xiao Fei had already told all of them.

Not only that, but the kids didn’t seem interested in the simpler ones anymore.

Eventually, Tang Yuxin left the kids’ room with a nearly tearful expression.

After pacing back and forth, she decided to head to the study. Quietly opening the door, she peeked inside.

In the room, Xiao Fei was seated by the window, sipping a cup of tea.

Several open books were spread across his desk.

Tang Yuxin walked in.

"Honey, I feel like a total failure..."

"What’s wrong?"

Xiao Fei asked with a chuckle.

Tang Yuxin recounted everything that had just happened in detail.

After listening, Xiao Fei pulled her into his arms, letting her sit on his lap while gently pinching her earlobe.

"Didn’t I tell you before? Our kids aren’t your average two-year-olds who don’t understand anything."

"They know a lot, so regular kids’ stories won’t cut it for them."

"But this just makes me feel so dumb."

Tang Yuxin pouted, only to suddenly notice that several books on the desk were open at the same time.

"Honey, what are you reading?"

"All of them," Xiao Fei replied.

Tang Yuxin: "?"

"All of them? What does that even mean?"

Xiao Fei pointed to the four books on his desk.

"It means I’m reading all of them at once."

Tang Yuxin stared at him, dumbfounded.

What kind of sorcery was her husband practicing?

"You’re joking, right?"

"There’s no reason to joke about something like this."

Xiao Fei was indeed multitasking, reading four textbooks simultaneously.

After all, during the day, he had to care for the kids and handle various other tasks, leaving little time for self-study.

With limited time, he’d figured out a way to maximize efficiency.

A while back, he’d started with two books at once, then progressed to three, and now that he was used to it, he was trying four.

After hearing Xiao Fei’s explanation, Tang Yuxin felt utterly defeated.

Her eyes lingered on him with an almost haunted look, and after a long pause, she finally asked:

"Honey, are you even human?"

Xiao Fei chuckled and asked back, "What do you think?"

Tang Yuxin: "..."

She suddenly felt like her intelligence wasn’t even on the same plane as her husband’s.

But then again, was there anyone else in the world who could absorb the content of four books simultaneously like her husband?
