Chapter 166: Chapter 166: Love Can Fade Away, Right?
Xiao Fei and Tang Yuxin chose items for the grabbing ceremony completely at random.
There wasn’t anything particularly special or expensive—mostly just little knickknacks you could find anywhere.
At first, both Xiao Fei and Tang Yuxin thought the babies would pick things like stuffed toys.
After all, at home, they always loved playing with small toy figures. But when it came to the grabbing ceremony, their choices turned out to be more peculiar one after another.
Da Bao chose a space shuttle model that was more of a detailed replica than a toy.
Er Bao picked a paintbrush.
When it was Sanbao’s turn, everyone—including Xiao Fei, Tang Yuxin, and all the guests—watched with anticipation.
What would Sanbao choose?
"Little one, your turn now!"
Xiao Fei patted Sanbao on her head.
Sanbao nuzzled into Xiao Fei’s arms for a moment before wriggling free.
Though she wasn’t as fearless as her elder brother Da Bao, she wasn’t as shy as her sister Er Bao, who flat out refused to leave Tang Yuxin’s arms earlier.
The little girl hesitated, then climbed onto the table.
She examined one thing, then another.
Picking up an abacus, she considered it for a moment before tossing it aside.
She then grabbed a bracelet, glanced at it, and put it back down.
After a while, her eyes suddenly lit up.
She crawled over and grabbed...
a pack of cigarettes?
"Wait! Hold up!"
"Why are there cigarettes here?"
Tang Yuxin had a string of question marks popping up above her head.
There was no way she or Xiao Fei would put something like that on the table for a baby grabbing ceremony!
"Uh...!"
Xiao Jun’s face froze awkwardly.
He quickly rushed forward with an apologetic smile, saying repeatedly, "Sorry, sorry! I took out a cigarette earlier and must’ve left the pack here by accident. Totally my fault!"
When her chosen item was taken from her, Sanbao pouted in dissatisfaction.
"Grandpa... I want..."
"No, no, Sanbao."
Xiao Fei came over and gently coaxed the little girl, "That’s not something you can pick. Let’s choose another one from the table, okay?"
"Hmm..."
Though still visibly unhappy, Sanbao listened to her father.
Sanbao was, after all, a good girl.
In the end, she selected a needleless syringe.
"Goo-yah!"
Raising her tiny arm high, Sanbao let out a celebratory cry, as if she’d won a gold medal at the Olympics.
The host immediately stepped forward and announced, "Looks like little Miss Xiao Qingmeng will grow up to become a nurse or a doctor!"
"An astronaut, a painter, and a doctor—all incredible professions!"
The host went on to offer a string of compliments.
Meanwhile...
On the big screen behind the crowd, a series of photos began to play.
Each was a snapshot of the little ones’ lives.
From the day they were born, to each milestone as they grew—photos taken by Xiao Fei and Tang Yuxin of their three children flickered across the screen.
As they looked at the photos, the couple’s faces were filled with nostalgia.
Finally, the screen transitioned to the video footage Xiao Fei had carefully recorded, documenting every first moment of their children’s growth.
The first time they rolled over, sat up, crawled, called out to someone, tried to stand...
It concluded with the family portrait taken just moments ago.
Xiao Fei and Tang Yuxin stood arm in arm, their three adorable children in front of them.
With that, the grabbing ceremony officially came to an end.
Every relative and friend in attendance, after seeing the lovingly prepared video, couldn’t help but feel moved.
The younger guests envied Xiao Fei’s happy family life, dreaming of their own day to come.
The older ones were reminded of their own days of raising kids.
All in all, the ceremony left a deep and joyful impression on everyone.
Next came the luncheon.
Since Xiao Fei and Tang Yuxin used caring for their children as an excuse not to drink, the crowd turned their attention to Xiao Jun and Tang Dingyuan, toasting them instead.
After eating a few spoonfuls of the special millet porridge Xiao Fei had prepared, the little ones began fussing, not wanting more.
Now that they could waddle around, staying still wasn’t an option.
Once they had their fill, they couldn’t wait to run around.
Xiang Zilan strode ahead with her feline grace, followed by Da Bao, then Er Bao with Little Bei balancing on her head, and finally Sanbao bringing up the rear.
The whimsical scene brought laughter to everyone present.
Wherever the kids and pets went, the guests eagerly engaged with them.
"Big Brother..."
Wu Manman ran over and tugged at Xiao Fei’s sleeve.
"I just posted the video to my Moments, and all my classmates are asking me how you trained Xiang Zilan and Little Bei—they’re just too clever!"
Indeed, the day’s breakout stars were undoubtedly the two little pets, especially Xiang Zilan, who had even obediently fetched the paintbrush upon Er Bao’s command.
"I didn’t train them at all."
What Xiao Fei said was true.
Though maybe not the whole truth.
"It’s probably because the three kiddos spend so much time with Xiang Zilan. Over time, she’s just come to understand what they mean, I guess."
"Come on, that’s ridiculous... Do you think I’d believe that?"
Wu Manman rolled her eyes at Xiao Fei before running off to pester Tang Yuxin. "Sister-in-law, sister-in-law, how did you really do it?"
Tang Yuxin merely smiled and shook her head, signaling she had no idea.
Xiao Fei set down his chopsticks and followed after the little ones to make sure they didn’t get into trouble.
Perhaps they were getting used to their surroundings, or maybe having their father close by gave them courage—whatever the reason, Er Bao was no longer as bashful as she’d been earlier. She even started responding to guests’ teasing with amusing antics of her own.
When the little ones paraded by one table, their aunt clapped her hands and called to them.
"Babies, come over!"
She kissed Da Bao and made a heart shape with her hands toward Er Bao.
Er Bao mimicked her, waving her tiny hand. "Goo-yah!"
Even the Little Bei perched atop her head flapped its wings and squawked. "Goo-yah!"
This sent everyone into gales of laughter.
"Oh, I can’t! Xiao Fei, this baby is too funny!"
Second Aunt gleefully picked Er Bao up and smothered her with kisses, only to be pushed away by Er Bao’s little hands, clearly unimpressed by the affection.
Meanwhile, Little Bei flew off Er Bao’s head and landed on Sanbao’s.
Sanbao blinked and, to everyone’s surprise, reached up and grabbed Little Bei.
Little Bei didn’t dare struggle—armed with an innate "protector of children" instinct, it would never do anything that might hurt them.
Sanbao looked down at the little bird in her hands and, after some thought, crouched down to place it on Xiang Zilan’s head.
Xiang Zilan: "...???"
So, love really can disappear, huh?
