Chapter 90: Chapter 0090: Drunken Truths

Long Fei looked at Wang Xiaoya’s coquettish little face and smiled; she really seemed like a capable little wife.

"I’m treating you to a Western meal, not because of Zhang Li. If I got a bonus, can’t I treat you to a bit of romance?" he persuaded Wang Xiaoya.

Wang Xiaoya’s face turned red, and she pouted, "To be romantic, we don’t need to eat Western food. Watching a movie and eating popcorn would make me happy enough. You’ve become the head of security, and although your salary has increased to five thousand a month, it’s still far from enough to buy a house. If I become the manager of the cafeteria, my salary would also increase to five thousand. Together, we’d make just ten thousand a month, and it would take us three or four years just to make a down payment. So, we still need to save every penny."

Long Fei was stunned, not expecting her to have thought about buying a house.

Women who have nothing to do really like to think this and that.

He cleared his throat, touched Wang Xiaoya’s little face, and felt moved from the heart, "Little Ya, what you said is right. But you’re talking about a fixed salary, how do you know that in the next two or three years, I won’t get a promotion and a raise? Or maybe, I could earn some extra money?"

Wang Xiaoya muttered, "We’ll talk about that when you earn it, but I don’t agree to eat Western food anyway."

"Don’t agree?"

Seeing her stubborn look, Long Fei simply stopped the car at the side of the road, locked it, and carried her toward the Western restaurant.

This restaurant was recommended by Zhang Li.

She had made a reservation and sent it to Long Fei earlier.

Wang Xiaoya struggled in his arms, and seeing the crowd coming and going on the road, she felt so embarrassed that she kept softly protesting, "What are you doing, put me down quickly, you’re making us lose face!"

Long Fei laughed, "Lose face? I’m holding my girlfriend, what does it have to do with them?"

Wang Xiaoya blushed and retorted, "Nonsense, when did I agree to that?"

Long Fei smirked, "I said ’female friend,’ what are you imagining?"

Wang Xiaoya took a deep breath and pinched him hard on his body.

At the entrance of the Western restaurant, Long Fei put Wang Xiaoya down and, without any discussion, pulled her inside.

Wang Xiaoya couldn’t outstubborn him and followed Long Fei as a waiter greeted them and seated them at a window spot.

The men and women nearby chuckled, having seen their display at the window.

Some of the men even gave Long Fei a thumbs up.

The waiter handed them the menu, also with a light laugh, "Sir, Miss, you two are quite romantic!"

Playing with her fingers, Wang Xiaoya was too embarrassed to lift her head.

Yet Long Fei only smiled lightly and asked the waiter, "What’s the most expensive set meal you have here?"

Wang Xiaoya immediately kicked him and frowned in frustration.

She told the waiter, "Don’t listen to his nonsense, just a set meal for two, please."

The waiter smiled, served them tea, and asked them to wait a moment.

After she left, Wang Xiaoya pointed to the menu, showing Long Fei, "See? Just a piece of steak, two glasses of wine, a salad, and a bowl of soup, and it’s two hundred ninety-nine. With that money, we could buy five or six jin of beef at the market."

Long Fei sipped his tea and asked her, "Have you eaten it before?"

Wang Xiaoya said, "I’ve had it twice with Zhang Li. The beef isn’t cooked well; it’s so hard to chew!"

Her words made Long Fei laugh merrily. He then seriously said, "In the future, I must treat you to the most expensive meal!"

"Why are you getting competitive with this Western restaurant?"

Wang Xiaoya was so annoyed she felt like biting him.

Long Fei comforted her, "You don’t understand. Chu Feng once said that you need to spend time in these luxurious places, to widen your horizons. Otherwise, if you always live with the mindset of a poor person, you’ll never have the motivation to strive for better!"

Wang Xiaoya rolled her eyes at him, "People are different, how can you compare yourself with Chu Feng? He lives so freely; his family must have no financial burdens. Can we be the same as him?"

"Right, whatever the wife says is right!"

Long Fei teased her, his face full of playfulness.

"You..."

Wang Xiaoya pouted, took a deep breath, and was truly annoyed with this stubborn mule.

She turned her head and looked around, the pretentiously tasteful decor, the soft music, and the romantic lighting—no woman could dislike such a place.

Her objection wasn’t due to a lack of fondness, but rather a fear of Long Fei spending money recklessly.

Sitting there for real, her heart was still filled with joy.

After the server brought the dishes, they were placed one by one in front of the two of them.

Long Fei looked at the two plates of cream cake and chuckled lightly, "Did you misread the menu earlier? They still have this!"

Wang Xiaoya pouted at him, and asked, "Do you know how to eat Western food?"

Long Fei shook his head.

Wang Xiaoya began to instruct, "This cake is a dessert to be eaten after the main dish. The one called cream chicken puff is a common appetizer in French cuisine. More expensive ones include caviar or foie gras. This soup is called Borscht; you drink it after the appetizer. It’s basically just carrots stewed with potatoes, with a bit of beef inside. After eating these, the steak will be perfectly done, and then it’s time for the salad and dessert."

"That complicated?"

Long Fei felt overwhelmed, having not expected eating a meal to be this intricate.

He set the fork with the cake back down, shook his head with a light laugh, "Then let’s wait until after the main dish to tackle this one!"

Wang Xiaoya chuckled, "Silly, I’m not an outsider, eat whatever you want."

Long Fei raised his knife and fork, mimicking her, and tried a bit of the cream chicken puff.

Neither sweet nor salty, it tasted just average, not even as good as the flavor of a pan-fried pancake.

He looked at Wang Xiaoya and said seriously, "Little Ya, do you ever feel embarrassed being with a country bumpkin like me?"

Wang Xiaoya’s eyes widened, she admonished, "What are you talking about, who said you’re a bumpkin? Even a bumpkin knows to take me out for Western cuisine."

Long Fei smiled, "That’s good then."

Wang Xiaoya bit her lip, having thought he might say something more.

But to her surprise, he started sipping his soup with a spoon, occasionally commenting, "Do these foreigners even know how to cook? Why does everything taste neither sweet nor salty?"

Wang Xiaoya couldn’t help but smirk and pouted at him, "I told you earlier that the food here isn’t good."

Long Fei looked around and asked her, "Then how do you explain why there are so many people in this place? And why is it so expensive?"

Wang Xiaoya replied, "It’s because of their fancy decor, right? It’s so romantic to dine here."

Long Fei nodded, conceding, "It is quite romantic, with knives and forks, much cleaner than the dumpling stall at our doors."

"Silly!"

Wang Xiaoya smiled and lifted her glass towards him, "Let’s toast, to celebrate your promotion and salary raise!"

Long Fei smiled and raised his glass, clinking it with hers and taking a sip.

He cautioned her, "You can’t hold your liquor well, don’t force yourself if you can’t drink."

Wang Xiaoya gave him a white glance, "It’s just a glass of red wine, am I that fragile?"

Long Fei laughed and waited for the steak to arrive, then they ate and drank together.

Once her glass of red wine was finished, her face was flushed with redness, and her head began to feel a bit dizzy.

Long Fei looked at her and asked, "Are you alright?"

Wang Xiaoya shook her head, took a bite of fruit, and belched softly, "I’m fine, if you pour another glass, I can still drink it."

Long Fei chuckled dryly, "Let’s not."

He knew what Wang Xiaoya was like when she was drunk, and he didn’t want to get her drunk again.

Wang Xiaoya looked at him, pouted, and after a long while she finally blurted out, "Long Fei, when are you planning to confess to me? Or do you not like me at all? Can you just give me a straightforward answer?"

She wasn’t supposed to be the one to say this, but she feared this blockhead would never catch on.

If she didn’t speak up, their relationship might just continue to drag on indefinitely.

Taking advantage of her tipsiness, Wang Xiaoya expressed her feelings, with her eyes beginning to redden with a tinge of grievance.
