Chapter 866: Chapter 0866: This Is Your Reason for Refusal
The atmosphere on the court turned awkward, and Liuu Ruyan stood there in a daze, as if her soul had fled.
Long Fei waved his hand in front of her face and asked, "Are you alright?"
Feeling despondent, Liuu Ruyan cursed, "Just to reject me, you’ve fabricated such an unreliable excuse. Do you find this amusing?"
"Fabricated?"
Long Fei was utterly confused and insisted, "I really got married. I’m not lying to you."
"Fine, consider me delusional. Pretend I never said what I did just now."
Liuu Ruyan fought back tears and turned to flee.
She had never imagined that mustering the courage to make a bold confession to a boy would end like this.
After all this time, it turned out she was the one with wishful thinking.
This guy, not even bothering to find a legitimate reason to reject her, had casually made up a marriage excuse to brush her off.
A sophomore in college getting married? Ridiculous that he could even say it.
Long Fei watched her rub her head, thinking how trying to help someone could backfire so badly.
He took out his phone and called Mother Liuu, informing her about the rental issue.
Knowing Liuu Ruyan, he was sure this stubborn girl would dismiss the matter entirely, telling her mother to refuse his good intentions.
Rather than that, it was better if he took care of the matter himself.
Once Liuu Ruyan calmed down, everything could go back to normal.
Upon hearing the news, Mother Liuu indeed became quite excited.
Long Fei emphasized repeatedly that this was a benefit given by the school to make amends, compensation for Mother Liuu’s abduction the night before, urging her to accept the shop without worries.
After the call, he asked Mother Liuu to come over immediately to sign the contract.
He warned her that if she came too late, the space might be rented out to someone else.
Mother Liuu had considered contacting her daughter, but she couldn’t get through.
With a bit of cajoling from Long Fei, she arrived at the school soon, not wanting to miss this opportunity.
Over the years, she had saved a bit of money.
It’s not that she hadn’t thought about renting a space, but every time a shop became available, it never seemed to be her turn.
The rent was expensive, not to mention that connections were required to secure a lease.
With this chance in front of her, she wasn’t planning to take advantage of Long Fei.
She would pay whatever the price was.
Long Fei waited for her at the back entrance of the school, then took her to visit the shop.
Although the storefront looked a bit old, the inside was clean and spacious.
Pushing open the two glass doors, there were six sets of seats arranged inside.
There was a small kitchen at the back, separated by a partition.
Long Fei explained inside that if she was only going to make cold skin noodles, the partition could be removed to add more space, making room for two more tables without any issues.
Mother Liuu nodded in agreement and eagerly asked Long Fei, "Long Fei, tell me honestly, how much is the rent really?"
Long Fei smiled and replied, "Didn’t I tell you over the phone? This is compensation from the school; it’s free."
Mother Liuu’s face turned serious as she said, "Long Fei, I won’t rent if you do it like this! Things must be done properly; if I don’t pay, I won’t feel right renting here. Don’t deceive me."
Long Fei laughed, jokingly saying, "Auntie, you are very perceptive. To tell you the truth, I just invested in this shop. My only goal is to break even; I’m not after anything else. We’re all familiar with each other; just a token amount will do."
"Really?"
Inwardly, Mother Liuu thought she hadn’t misjudged Long Fei; this young man’s background was indeed extraordinary.
Just talking about buying a shop in the school like that, that’s not something an ordinary person would do!
She looked at Long Fei earnestly and said, "In that case, I can’t take advantage of you even more. Whatever the rent is for the neighboring shops, that’s what I’ll pay you. If you don’t agree, I won’t rent it."
Long Fei sighed, thinking that Mother Liuu was just as stubborn as her daughter.
He arbitrarily quoted a price, "Alright, let’s not talk about it anymore. Two thousand a month, let’s sign the contract now."
"I don’t believe it."
Mother Liuu shook her head and asked him, "Is that the price for the shops next door too?"
"Really, I’m not lying to you."
Long Fei gave a wry smile, thinking how difficult it was to do a good deed.
Mother Liuu didn’t want to take advantage of him, stubbornly left the house, and ran into the shop next door to inquire with the owner about the rent.
Long Fei followed her.
As soon as the shop owner heard Mother Liuu mention the 2,000 yuan rent, he burst out laughing.
He was about to quote a rent of 200,000 yuan per year.
But when he opened his mouth, he couldn’t bring himself to say 200,000, and ended up saying 20,000 instead.
It felt as if his mouth was being controlled by someone else.
Long Fei chuckled behind Mother Liuu, "Auntie, I didn’t lie to you, did I?"
Upon hearing this, Mother Liuu pondered why the rent at the school was cheaper than outside?
She had checked with several places before, and they were all around five or six thousand per month.
Long Fei took her back, deceiving her by saying that the tenants in the school were all related, which is why the rent was cheap. If Mother Liuu refused him again, he would rent it out to someone else for 2,000 yuan.
Mother Liuu was not a pedantic person. Though she had her own bottom lines, she wouldn’t pass up such an opportunity.
She agreed and signed a contract with Long Fei.
Long Fei played a trick, saying they were signing a one-year contract.
But then he added a stroke above the one, turning it into a ten.
Their leasing term changed from one year to ten years.
The rent was 2,000 yuan per month, fixed for ten years.
It was only after signing the contract that Mother Liuu noticed this.
She looked at Long Fei, helpless but smiling. There was simply no way to handle this kid.
Long Fei told her that he knew a decoration company that could do a simple refurbishment of the storefront without costing much, as a gesture from him, the landlord.
Mother Liuu agreed, not wishing to cause Long Fei any trouble.
She knew that Long Fei genuinely wanted to help her and was afraid of hurting her pride.
To refuse again would just seem too proud.
The two kept busy until class in the afternoon, and Long Fei left first.
Mother Liuu joyfully looked over the shop inside and out. After enduring the elements for more than a decade, she finally had a place to settle down.
She knew that 2,000 yuan was an extremely low price.
Selling just twenty servings of roujiamo (pork sandwich) combo meals a day would cover the rent and costs.
Anything more was pure profit.
In this prime school location, she and her daughter could save a little within a year.
She phoned, finally getting in touch with her daughter.
Liuu Ruyan ran over in surprise when she found out her mother was in the school.
Seeing her daughter with red-rimmed eyes, Mother Liuu knew something must’ve happened.
She asked her daughter, "What’s wrong? Did you have an argument with Long Fei?"
Liuu Ruyan shook her head, went into the shop, and after sitting for a while, she cried out with her arm as a pillow, "Mom, that guy said he’s already married."
"Ah?"
Mother Liuu furrowed her brow and asked her, "You mean Long Fei?"
Liuu Ruyan nodded.
"Can’t be?"
Mother Liuu also looked surprised, curiously saying, "He’s only a sophomore, how could he be married?"
Liuu Ruyan sullenly replied, "That’s how he rejected me. Your daughter is so worthless, allowing someone to take her so lightly that even the reason for rejection is so perfunctory."
Mother Liuu went over, sat beside her, and patted her on the shoulder, comforting her, "Silly child, you’ve only known him for a few days. You should be grateful for his help, stop overthinking. If someone rejects, they must have their reasons. You can’t force someone to like you, can you?"
"I know, but I just feel uncomfortable inside."
Liuu Ruyan let out a plaintive sigh, touched the corner of her eye, and said to her mother, "This is the first time your daughter ever chased a boy, I don’t have any experience! Now it’s better, after talking to you, I feel much relieved."
"You and your antics!"
Mother Liuu laughed and gently tapped on her daughter’s head. She sounded light-hearted, but there was clear pain in her eyes; she had obviously fallen hard.
This foolish girl always rejected boys.
In encountering a boy she truly liked, she was just like her mother in her youth.
Like a moth, even if it means flying into the fire.
