Chapter 377: Chapter 377: Realizing

If it had been any other time, Zheng Lili, though not the brightest bulb, would certainly not have believed Fat Wang’s ghost stories.

But in these last few days, her streak of bad luck seemed endless, with yesterday’s public whipping by Mu Tianyou only adding to her misfortunes.

Her spirit shaken, she fell for Fat Wang’s smooth talk, and for the moment, she wholeheartedly believed in the superstitions he peddled.

She took off her clothes for Fat Wang herself, even more proactive than him, desperate to rid herself of what she believed was a curse.

Soon, she discovered.

That this Taoist priest wasn’t only adept in his craft but also had a variety of tricks up his sleeve, appearing every bit the seasoned driver.

Although Zheng Lili became suspicious, caught up in the excitement, she couldn’t bring herself to stop and question it.

To tell the truth, this Taoist priest was by far better than Mu Tianyou.

Zheng Lili suddenly realized that there was a delightful aspect to this experience, one that made her feel so good she could almost float up to the heaven.

The two of them went at it until nightfall, and Zheng Lili fell asleep happily in the priest’s embrace.

This Taoist priest slipped out of bed quietly, dressed, and took his leave.

Truly someone who did the deed and left without a trace, keeping his skills and reputation hidden.

In the park, Long Fei opened his eyes.

The spiritual energy that had accumulated here for over a decade was completely devoured by him and the Jade Arhat.

The large willow tree in front of him had its leaves dimmed a lot, no longer the vibrant green it once was.

After Long Fei stood up, he touched the tree and, with a fist to his heart, said, "Brother Liu, this is an emergency. I’ve used the spiritual energy first. More will gather here later, so it won’t hinder your cultivation."

If the willow tree had developed a spirit, it would definitely have fought him tooth and nail.

If it had been soaked in spiritual energy for a hundred years, it could have broken free from its mortal coil and awakened its spirit.

It is extremely difficult for plants to become spirits, and just when a heaven-sent opportunity had arisen, it was stolen away by Long Fei.

He tidied up the Jade Arhat and was getting ready to go home when he realized his brother-in-law was nowhere to be found.

Long Fei felt a headache coming on, pulled out his phone, and immediately called Fat Wang.

If he didn’t bring Fat Wang back tonight, Wang Xiaoya would definitely think he had done something to her brother.

The sound of a phone ringing came from afar, and turning back, Long Fei saw Fat Wang waving and running towards him.

In his hand was a compass, and he panted, "Brother-in-law, finished with your business?"

"Where did you go?"

Long Fei noted his rosy face, looking as if he had just come from a sauna.

Clutching the compass, Fat Wang made up a story, "I was checking out the feng shui, took a big round through the park."

Long Fei didn’t ask further and took him out of the park, driving back home.

In the villa, An Xiaoke had already woken up, and alongside Wang Xiaoya, they had busied themselves in the kitchen all afternoon, preparing a table full of delicious dishes.

Knowing that both Long Fei and Fat Wang were big eaters, after running out of food at home, Wang Xiaoya went out to a vegetable store to stock up more.

Cold beef salad, spicy pork ears, Kung Pao chicken, scallion oil wheat gluten, roasted dried tofu, ginseng chicken soup.

Both meat and vegetarian dishes, well over twenty different types.

Luckily the dining room in this villa was spacious. If it had been in their former rental, there would have been no space to place everything.

Looking every bit the maidservant, An Xiaoke was extremely respectful in front of Wang Xiaoya, causing Wang Xiaoya to feel somewhat embarrassed.

Initially wary of An Xiaoke, Wang Xiaoya now regarded her as a sister.

With such a warm-hearted girl, what reason did she have to dislike her!

After Long Fei and Fat Wang entered the house, Fat Wang, enticed by the aroma, blurted out, "Holy shit, braised pork shank! Big sis, I just love you to death!"

Without even changing his shoes, he ran to the table, looked it over, and grabbed a piece of pork shank to bite into it.

Wang Xiaoya tapped his hand with her chopsticks and pouted, "Go wash your hands; aren’t you disgusted by the filth?"

Fat Wang chuckled with a mouth full of pork shank and headed to the bathroom.

Long Fei approached, looked at Wang Xiaoya, and said with a light laugh, "Why bother cooking? Wouldn’t eating out be easier?"

"Eating out costs more, and besides, it doesn’t taste as good as home-cooked food!"

Wang Xiaoya pulled up a chair, inviting him to sit.

Fat Wang came out and looked at Long Fei, complaining, "Sis, why doesn’t my brother-in-law have to wash his hands, but I do?"

"You talk too much!"

Wang Xiaoya pulled a chair for him as well and then went to the kitchen to call An Xiaoke to come out to eat.

She and Fat Wang sat opposite each other, while An Xiaoke and Long Fei faced each other.

At first glance, the two women seemed like guests, and Long Fei and An Xiaoke appeared to be the hosts.

Fat Wang muttered to himself, thinking that his sister was too stubborn. How could she leave such a beautiful woman alone at home?

Wang Xiaoya made Binhai City’s common mixed grain pancakes, spread sauce on them, added green onions, and gave one to Long Fei.

She gave one to Fat Wang as well and asked him, "Why aren’t you working properly and ran over here instead?"

Today, when Fat Wang said he was stopping by, Wang Xiaoya still didn’t know why.

She was afraid this guy couldn’t handle hardship and had thrown away a good job.

Fat Wang took a bite of the pancake, his face glowing with pride, "I was sent by the leader to liaise with my brother-in-law, we’re going on an exploration at sea tomorrow."

"What?"

Wang Xiaoya glanced at Long Fei.

An Xiaoke also raised her eyebrows curiously, not having heard about this from Long Fei.

Long Fei said, "That’s right, Li Zhenni has organized an exploration event. Chu Feng doesn’t have time to take care of her, so he asked me to help out. Tomorrow Wang and I will head out, and we probably won’t be back for a few days."

Wang Xiaoya asked worriedly, "Is it dangerous?"

Long Fei tried to sound relaxed, "Don’t worry about it!"

Yet, his heart wasn’t at ease; just hearing the name Devil Island suggested it wasn’t ordinary.

Fat Wang boasted from the side, "Sis, just relax! Our team is made up of professional explorers, we’ve been through all kinds of big waves. I guarantee you, with me there, your husband won’t lose a single hair!"

"Cut it out, the more you talk, the less believable you are!"

Wang Xiaoya gave him a white look, laughing. It would be nice if he could just take care of himself, never mind expecting him to look after Long Fei.

An Xiaoke timidly asked Long Fei, "Master, should I still stay here after you leave?"

Long Fei smiled and said, "It’s up to you; stay wherever you like. Tonight, I’ll copy several prescription sheets for you as well as alchemy methods. Practice them according to instructions, and I’ll check your progress when I get back."

"Okay then,"

An Xiaoke nodded. Without Long Fei, staying there would feel awkward; it was more convenient to go back to the pharmacy.

The main reason was the availability of herbal medicines to use; brewing here was too inconvenient.

Wang Xiaoya actually hoped she would stay. Living alone in such a big house made her a bit afraid at night.

She didn’t say anything, though, leaving An Xiaoke to plan for herself.

After the four of them finished eating, Wang Xiaoya and An Xiaoke tidied up the table.

Fat Wang sat on the sofa and started watching TV.

Long Fei prepared several recipes for body-refining liquids and basic alchemy techniques for An Xiaoke with his laptop.

All this knowledge came from Shennong’s Materia Medica. Long Fei didn’t hold back any secrets and planned to pass them all to An Xiaoke, intending to train her as his first alchemy disciple.

In the hotel, Zheng Lili’s phone rang for a long time before she answered.

She was yelled at from the other end, "Where the heck have you been? Didn’t we agree to pick someone up at the airport today? You have half an hour to get your ass to the airport!"

Zheng Lili rolled out of bed, looking around the room to find that the Taoist had vanished without a trace.

She rubbed her head, feeling weak.

The caller had hung up after their tirade without giving her a chance to speak.

She lay back down and stretched lazily, running through today’s events, feeling that something wasn’t quite right.

According to the Taoist, he was supposed to perform an Enlightenment ritual on her.

But since entering the room, they had just engaged in that act, and she had seen no sign of the Taoist doing anything else?

"Could I have been deceived?"

Zheng Lili’s eyes widened, her face flushed with embarrassment, and all at once, she felt an urge to die of shame.
