Chapter 239: Chapter 0239: Sense of Justice

In the interrogation room, Long Fei hadn’t been taken to the visitor’s room but was instead brought here.

As the door shut, the room was dark except for a single desk lamp that was lit.

Long Fei sat down, looked around, and thought to himself that the meeting place was quite unique.

In the TV shows, don’t they meet through a window?

Just as he was pondering this, a man and a woman entered the room.

The man looked somewhat familiar, though Long Fei couldn’t quite place where he had seen him before.

The woman was Ding Xue, who gestured a small hand wave at Long Fei and smirked mischievously.

Both of them sat down at the table opposite Long Fei, and the middle-aged man took out a cigarette, asking Ding Xue to pass it to him.

Long Fei took the cigarette, eagerly asking, "Boss, is my case closed?"

Ding Xue introduced, "That’s right, this is Director Wei Dongming, he personally came to escort you out today."

"Director?"

Long Fei clicked his tongue and lit up the cigarette, feeling quite honored.

However, as he noticed Wei Dongming eyeing him greedily, as if he was looking at his own wife, Long Fei immediately felt uneasy, suspecting that the man was hiding something.

Wei Dongming spoke up, "Long Fei, your case is closed. Just so you know, the person you killed was an assassin sent by a foreign organization. Their target was Lin Yingying."

"What organization?"

Long Fei’s curiosity piqued as he thought no one should dare touch his woman—that was asking for trouble.

Wei Dongming said, "It’s an organization called Hell Sect, very mysterious, and we have very little information about them."

"You came today just to talk about this?"

Puffs of smoke billowed from Long Fei’s mouth as he grew more suspicious of Wei Dongming.

Wei Dongming laughed, "Brother Long really has a keen eye, but of course, I have other matters to discuss with you."

He waved his hand, prompting Ding Xue to pass a file to Long Fei.

Long Fei picked it up and looked through it, finding many photographs.

There were images of an exploded factory’s ruins, and plenty of information and pictures of Fifth Master.

Long Fei’s brows furrowed; by the end of the file, Fifth Master was labeled as a "suspected drug lord."

He was inwardly astounded and looked up at Wei Dongming, wondering why the man was showing him this.

Wei Dongming stated, "These past days, you must have learned something about this Fifth Master, haven’t you?"

Long Fei merely nodded, not wanting to say much, and asked him, "Director Wei, what are you implying? I’m faint-hearted; could you be straightforward, please?"

Wei Dongming chucklingly said, "Quit your nonsense, young man. You, faint-hearted? Yet you’ve killed people and nabbed drug traffickers?"

"I was forced into it!"

Long Fei’s eyes darted around, certain that this man was scheming something.

Indeed, Wei Dongming stubbed out his cigarette and said seriously, "Here’s the deal: Fifth Master is implicated in a major drug case involving over a dozen tons. Just imagine what it means if those drugs hit the streets. At least tens of thousands of people would suffer the scourge of narcotics. As a citizen of Huaxia, I hope you can step forward and resolutely fight against these drug traffickers."

Playing dumb, Long Fei said, "No problem, I don’t do drugs. If anyone uses them, I’ll definitely intervene!"

Wei Dongming continued, "It’s not just that, you should understand what I mean. Fifth Master is a highly educated criminal; he never leaves any traces behind. We have very little evidence on hand right now and can’t prove his connection to the drug organization. Recently, we’ve been looking for an undercover agent. Your arrival has given me hope. Comrade Long Fei, you’re very suitable for this undercover job."

Great, he was definitely being targeted.

Long Fei’s eyes flickered, and he asked deliberately, "Is there a salary for being undercover? Right now, I earn a hundred thousand a month; how much will I get as an undercover agent?"

"Well!"

Wei Dongming rubbed his temples, feeling a bit embarrassed.

His own monthly salary was only just over ten thousand; how much could he offer for undercover work?

Ding Xue frowned and said, "Long Fei, do you even have a sense of justice? Arresting drug dealers is an act of patriotic justice, so why are you talking about salary?"

Long Fei complained, "Miss, it’s easy for the well-fed to not understand the plight of the starving. I need to provide for my family. Being an undercover takes up time, right? Without a salary, how am I supposed to marry a wife?"

Ding Xue said gloomily, "It’s just a wife. If you can solve this case, I’ll marry you!"

"Ah, is that really okay?"

Long Fei glanced down, slightly bashful.

Ding Xue also realized she had misspoken and hung her head, her face flushed.

Director Wei Dongming coughed twice and said, "Comrade Long Fei, Ding Xue is right. As a martial artist, I believe you have a sense of justice. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have helped others time and again. As for the matter of the salary, I’ll try my best to apply for it from the higher-ups, as a bonus for your achievements."

"Is this voluntary or mandatory?"

Long Fei looked reluctant.

His woman was in danger; he did not have time for other matters.

Director Wei Dongming said, "Of course, it’s voluntary. You’re not a police officer; you have the right to choose. I hope you will consider carefully; for every day this case remains unsolved, countless families could be destroyed."

Long Fei broke out in a sweat, feeling as if the world couldn’t turn without him.

He returned to his cell and when he looked at Fifth Master again, his gaze was somewhat different.

To avoid suspicion, Ding Xue had prepared more than a dozen portions of roast chicken for him to take in.

She whispered to Long Fei, "If you don’t go undercover, I’ll do it. If I were to fall honorably one day, I hope that you could visit me whenever you have the time!"

Her bright, determined eyes left Long Fei in a daze.

He knew Ding Xue’s character well; she was someone who would risk her life to solve a case, full of a sense of justice.

Her background was too clean and too conspicuous; she wouldn’t be able to go undercover.

After sitting down, Long Fei shared the roast chicken with the others.

He pulled out a drumstick for himself.

Taking one for himself and giving one to Fifth Master, he said with sadness, "Fifth Master, I’m leaving today, and who knows if we’ll have the chance to meet again. Brother, I hope you get out soon and stay safe."

Fifth Master laughed, "Come on, you’re acting like a sentimental woman now?"

Long Fei smiled and said, "You can’t talk about that, old man; you’re quite interesting. Having been here these two days, I truly wish I could talk with you more."

He raised his drumstick, and Fifth Master lifted his in return, clinking them together before taking big bites.

In the surveillance room, Director Wei Dongming, with arms crossed and hand supporting his chin, watched Long Fei and Fifth Master closely.

He asked Ding Xue, "What do you think, will Long Fei agree to help us?"

Ding Xue smiled and said, "Look at him, he’s been in the zone since he walked in the door."

"Is that so?"

Director Wei Dongming chuckled and asked her, "How can you tell?"

Ding Xue analyzed, "If he weren’t going to help us, there’s no need for him to be so warm with Fifth Master. After all, he already knows Fifth Master’s identity. The more he interacts, the worse it is for him. You see his behavior; it’s clear that he’s trying to build a relationship with Fifth Master."

"This kid."

Director Wei Dongming looked again and felt much relieved.

He instructed Ding Xue, "Alright then. If he really agrees, you’ll be the one to contact him regularly and give him his assignments. You haven’t been at the bureau for long, so it should be easy to keep your identity a secret. I’ll create a file for you to go undercover at Binhai University. Your only job is to keep an eye on Long Fei."

"Yes!"

Ding Xue was excited, eager to handle a few big cases.

This big case involved over ten tons of drugs.

If she could solve it, her name would be known throughout the police force.
