Chapter 107: Chapter 107: The Company is Also a Jianghu
In the underground parking garage, Lin Yingying sat nervously in the elevator as she went upstairs.
She looked at herself in the mirror and thought that she might really be lacking a man in her life, since she couldn’t stop her mind from wandering whenever she saw Long Fei.
This man, from any perspective, was not the type she liked.
Yet, this very man had saved her twice, and had also taken her first time.
If he continued to work in the company, she would inevitably become entangled with him.
Lin Yingying’s eyes shone with determination as she reaffirmed her intent to get rid of Long Fei.
She entered her office and asked her assistant, Su Qi, to bring over the report about Liu Kai’s handling from yesterday to review again.
Su Qi was her senior at school by five years.
A top economics student from Harvard University, she was currently temporarily serving as Lin Yingying’s executive assistant.
A twenty-eight-year-old woman was at her peak of maturity and beauty.
She wore a black form-fitting skirt, her long legs shapely and attractive, her hair draped over her shoulders, and her figure slightly more ample than Lin Yingying’s, exuding a full charm.
Lin Yingying took a sip of coffee and saw that Su Qi hadn’t left, so she looked up and smiled at her, "Is there something else?"
Su Qi shook her head, took a seat opposite her, and with a gleam in her eye, said, "You seem very interested in this security guard named Long Fei lately."
Lin Yingying’s brow tightened as she tried to conceal, "How could that be, I just want to see what’s going on under the surface in the company."
Su Qi said, "I’ve checked for you; Long Fei’s background is very simple, a kid from a rural area who even spent some time picking up trash in the city."
"Oh, is that so?"
Lin Yingying knew this and was not surprised.
Su Qi continued, "However, Chu Feng, who joined the company with Long Fei, is a bit unusual. I had someone look into him for a long time, but I could only find information from his university days. His social connections, family background—none of it can be traced."
Lin Yingying put down the documents in her hands, her delicate eyebrows furrowed, "What are you implying?"
Su Qi said, "Think about it—a university student with absolutely no background. How could he have defeated the other competitors right after joining the company and taken the position of manager in the admin team without even completing his probationary period?"
Lin Yingying clasped her hands together and said, "Are you suggesting that someone within the company wants him to rise to power?"
Su Qi nodded, "This man is dangerous, but right now, it’s an opportunity for us. If he wants to climb up, he will inevitably encroach on the interests of your second uncle. The stumbling block in sight is Zheng Tuo, the Human Resources Director. As they fight like snipe and clam, we’ll be the fisherman who reaps the benefits. When the time comes, we need to seize the opportunity to get our person into that position. Taking the fortress is the first step."
"Alright, leave this matter to you."
Lin Yingying nodded, agreeing with her suggestion.
Su Qi reminded, "Additionally, you can’t touch Long Fei. He and Chu Feng are good brothers, and he will be a good piece for us to use against Chu Feng in the future. Keeping him in the company is of great use to us."
Lin Yingying took a breath and crossed her arms, "How did you know I wanted to do something to him?"
Su Qi smiled faintly, "These past few days, you’ve been looking into which subsidiary has a vacancy. I didn’t even need to think to guess."
Lin Yingying laughed and shook her head, giving a thumbs up, "Impressive, worthy of being my senior. Whatever you say goes! I’ll leave him alone then."
Su Qi smiled again, curiosity piqued, "I am a bit curious, though. What exactly did he do to offend you that you can’t stop thinking about him? As far as I know, he took a bullet for you last time!"
Lin Yingying’s face flushed, and she shot her an annoyed look, "Big sis, when did you start gossiping too?"
Su Qi chuckled, got up, and said, "Alright, if you don’t want to talk about it, I won’t ask. In any case, now we can make our move."
Lin Yingying saw her out, then went back and sat down at her office desk, turned on her computer, looked at Long Fei’s information, and muttered in frustration, "Consider yourself lucky, I’m sparing you for now."
The handling of Liu Kai’s case had made Lin Yingying see him in a new light.
Long Fei had handled it flawlessly, with grace and propriety.
Crucially, he knew how to protect the company’s reputation, turned a voyeurism case into a theft case, and saved the company a lot of trouble.
Lin Yingying secretly thought that if Long Fei hadn’t stopped her yesterday from entering that restroom, and she had been snapped by someone, she would have been heartbroken to death.
Thankfully, the fellow was perceptive, although he had pulled her in front of a crowd. Thinking about it now, she could let it go.
Lunchtime had come, and Long Fei led a group of security guards, drenched in sweat, upstairs.
Having trained outside all morning, everyone was already hungry.
While serving food, Wang Xiaoya specifically picked out two big drumsticks for Long Fei.
Old Wu followed behind, teasing, "Sister-in-law, why are our drumsticks so small?"
"Get lost, who’s your sister-in-law!"
Wang Xiaoya retorted with a red face amid laughter from everyone.
Zhang Yue, the head of the HR department, sat nearby with a colleague, glaring at Long Fei, he muttered under his breath, "All brawn and no brains. Enjoy it while you can because one day I’ll kick you out."
The way Long Fei handled Liu Kai yesterday, with such arrogance, had thoroughly infuriated Zhang Yue.
He was in charge of the HR department and, although he didn’t have the power to promote at will, he was nonetheless a department manager.
And here was some lowly security guard, not even taking him seriously.
And now he had ousted his classmate Liu Kai.
Zhang Yue was full of a sense of crisis; he didn’t get to be a manager by being passive in the company.
His girlfriend Zhou Xiaoqi worked as a clerk in the finance department.
She was also the daughter of Zheng Tuo and the best friend of Zheng Lili.
Zheng Tuo, the director of the Human Resources department, had a son and a daughter.
His daughter, Zheng Lili, was the pampered child of his second wife, used to having her own way.
Zheng Tuo heeded his daughter’s advice, and it was through Zheng Lili’s connection that Zhou Xiaoqi got a job in the finance department right after graduating from college.
Zhang Yue wanted to talk to Zhou Xiaoqi about whispering in Zheng Lili’s ear to find a chance to really give Chu Feng and Long Fei a hard time.
After lunch, Long Fei told the others to go down and rest first.
Wang Xiaoya came over with her tray and sat beside him.
The cafeteria staff had to wait until everyone else had finished before they could eat.
Wang Xiaoya didn’t eat much, just a bowl of rice, three stir-fried dishes, and a cucumber salad—very simple.
Not like Long Fei, who had spat out a whole bowl of bones.
Long Fei passed her a silver cup, "Drink some of this."
Wang Xiaoya shook her head weakly, "No need."
Long Fei said, "This isn’t tea, it’s brown sugar water. I boiled it especially for you on my way up with a kettle!"
"Ah?"
Wang Xiaoya took a sip and immediately felt warm inside; her face brightened as she said, "You do know quite a bit."
Long Fei smiled, "Of course, I’m the friend of all women now. Learnt everything I could this morning. And if you have cramps, I could even give you an acupuncture treatment!"
"Get lost!"
Wang Xiaoya giggled, feeling it was less believable the more she heard.
She asked Long Fei, "Have you decided about tomorrow? Are you free to accompany me to the class reunion?"
Long Fei nodded, "I’ll go. As long as you don’t mind me embarrassing you, I have no issues."
Originally, he was supposed to deal with Liu Kai, but now that Liu Kai had taken action early, he could actually rest well for a couple of days.
"Then it’s settled!"
Wang Xiaoya smiled happily, sizing him up and analyzing seriously, "You look fine, a bit dark, but still quite manly. It’s just that your clothes aren’t classy enough, they lack temperament. I’ll go shopping with you tomorrow morning and get you properly dressed up."
