The Beautiful CEO’s Dragon Blood Bodyguard -
Chapter 1026: A Dog Comes Calling
Chapter 1026: Chapter 1026: A Dog Comes Calling
The Golden Eagle had flown from Luoyang to Chang’an in less than half a day.
The entire Chang’an City was surrounded by mountains on all sides, with dangerous passes, layers upon layers.
To enter Chang’an from the Central Plains, there was only one way through Hangu Pass.
Outside, the world boasted eight hundred miles of flat plains, but here in this world, the Loess Plateau fashioned eight thousand miles of flat land.
Once inside the Guanzhong Basin, one could see the endless plain spread before their eyes.
Long Fei marveled at the beautiful scenery below, feeling a sense of sudden clarity in his heart.
Only from a high vantage could one truly comprehend the vastness of the world.
Lin Shanshan pointed towards Mount Hua in the distance and asked Long Fei, "Brother-in-law, aren’t you going to visit Sister Little Ya?"
Long Fei shook his head, having anticipated this very question.
However, the thought of his overbearing mother-in-law immediately made his heart shrink back.
In the three months he had been in seclusion, quite a few things had occurred.
The Mystic Yin Sect had announced the reconstruction of their hall at Mount Hua and had dispatched disciples to recall the female disciples who had originally stayed with the Yin Yang Sect.
But so much time had passed, and more than half of these female disciples had formed attachments with disciples of the Yin Yang Sect.
They did not want to leave, using the excuse of pregnancy and therefore unable to return and repay Shi En, which infuriated the ones who came to retrieve them, Qin Yao, Yu Ping, and Jiu Ge, to no end.
Disciples of the Mystic Yin Sect were not allowed to fall in love with men or to bear children.
Once they did, they were to be expelled from the sect.
In the end, out of the more than three hundred Mystic Yin Sect female disciples, only half returned.
Long Fei had poached half of the people from their hands, so it would be surprising if his mother-in-law could show him a pleasant face.
He did not dare to go over, instead, he followed Ji Wanyu back to the Princess Mansion.
Chang’an City was divided into the Inner City and the Outer City.
The Inner City housed the Royal Family and Capital City officials, as well as nobles; it was clean, with high-end buildings and exceptionally wide roads.
The Outer City was home to the common people, with areas near the Inner City still being relatively clean and prosperous, but the farther one moved towards the outskirts, the more dilapidated the buildings became.
Ji Wanyu could not stand the restrictions of the Inner City. While others vied for residences within the Inner City, she chose one in the Outer City.
It should be noted that the Inner City had a curfew.
By midnight, no one was allowed to move about.
Moreover, the airspace above the Inner City was off-limits to anyone flying overhead unless it was for special circumstances.
Otherwise, a group of ladies from the Royal Family couldn’t even take a bath without being seen by others.
The Outer City had none of these restrictions; there was activity all night long, and flying haphazardly overhead wasn’t an issue.
Her mansion was in an exceptionally lovely environment.
Located on the edge of the Outer City, it backed onto green hills, with rivers winding their way through, built like a wetland park.
In the Inner City, land was expensive, and the area was often not very large.
The Outer City wasn’t bound by such constraints, land was cheaper, and as long as one had money and power, expansion was possible.
Next to Ji Wanyu’s mansion, there were many such grand estates, all belonging to major families that used them as summer retreats and play areas.
They owned residences in the Inner City, so naturally, they had them in the Outer City as well.
Everyone entered the mansion together, and Ji Wanyu immediately ordered the servants to prepare some food to welcome the guests.
There must have been at least a hundred servants in the courtyard.
Chu Feng sighed emotionally, "The wretched feudal society!"
Lin Shanshan teased him, "Oh, please, you’re probably wishing for a mansion like this yourself, aren’t you?"
Chu Feng laughed and said, "Shanshan, I haven’t provoked you recently! Are you just giving me a hard time because I’m handsomer than your brother-in-law?"
"Can’t you be a little less narcissistic?"
Lin Shanshan covered her mouth and laughed as she sat down with them in the living room of the main hall.
Ji Wanyu arranged for everyone, "Today everyone should rest, and tomorrow we’ll head to the competition venue."
"How do we sign up for the competition?"
Chu Feng asked.
Ji Wanyu said, "I’ve got this handled for you all, we’ll take the back door and go directly into the final top hundred. All the earlier minor stuff isn’t worth showing up for."
"Is that even allowed?"
Chu Feng looked utterly uninformed.
Ji Wanyu chuckled, "Of course it is. Several of the chief judges are my father’s people; sneaking a couple of people in is pretty normal."
"No wonder I always got kicked out of competitions before; it turns out it was you people messing with the rules of the game."
Chu Feng quipped sarcastically, making everyone at the table burst into laughter.
Long Fei wasn’t in the mood for idle chit-chat and intently reviewed the map of Chang’an City.
This was the latest intelligence provided by the Ground Rat Clan, with a clear annotation of the distribution of the major forces.
In the center of the outer city, it wasn’t any family’s residence or government office, but the famous Chang’an Academy of Great Xia Country.
For Cultivators in this world, there were two main avenues for development.
One was to join a Sect, and the other was to enter Chang’an Academy.
Compared to resources and legacies, Chang’an Academy was in no way inferior to the Sects, and it was even a bit stronger due to the support of the Royal Family.
The Imperial Army Commanders of the Capital City, officials and military leaders from all over, the majority came from Chang’an Academy.
Governor Zhang Yannian of Yuzhou, and Great General Wang Shouren were both disciples of Chang’an Academy.
However, Zhang Yannian was of the Confucianism, while Wang Shouren was from the Military Strategists.
Chang’an Academy had a multitude of disciplines; those who wished to pursue officialdom preferred Confucianism, and those who sought the battlefield gravitated towards Military Strategists.
And then there were the Merchant Sect for those doing business, the Buddhist Sect for those studying Buddhist Law, and even the Art Sect for those who studied the arts of music, chess, calligraphy, and painting—all could be found within Chang’an Academy.
For someone with innate talent like Liu Rufeng, even trying to apply for the Merchant Sect exam was a tall order, which just shows how many geniuses were inside.
Long Fei asked Ji Wanyu, "Is Chang’an Academy open to the public? Can we go in to visit?"
Ji Wanyu shook her head and said with a smile, "Outsiders are forbidden from entering, but that doesn’t apply to this princess. If you want to go, I can take you in."
Liu Rufeng exclaimed excitedly, "My heavens, really? Back then, my dad spent tens of thousands of gold and used all his connections, but still couldn’t get me in there."
Lin Shanshan laughed, "How awful must you have been, then?"
Liu Rufeng defended himself, "It’s not that I was awful; it’s just that Chang’an Academy has exceptionally stringent requirements for its disciples. The entrance exams are all set by the Academy itself. No matter how well you do in local academies, once you reach Chang’an Academy, you start all over with a new assessment. Only the top scholars of each discipline from the regions can enter Chang’an Academy for further study."
"So you’re just not good enough, right?"
Lin Shanshan continued to tease.
Ji Wanyu interjected with a laugh, "Exactly."
Liu Rufeng admitted defeat and said with a sheepish smile, "Alright, I admit I’m not up to par. But if that wasn’t the case, how could I have met a genius master like mine and become his disciple? Now, if Chang’an Academy were to invite me, I wouldn’t even bother going. In terms of ability, none of the Elders or masters at Chang’an Academy can hold a candle to my master."
His words were a clever flattery, slathering Long Fei with praise while elevating his own status.
Dish after dish was served, all of them delectable and featuring the special cuisine of this world.
Everyone had their fill and was just about to head over to visit Chang’an Academy.
At that moment, suddenly someone outside reported that Prince Ji Haotian had come to seek an audience.
Long Fei and Chu Feng exchanged a glance, clearly remembering the name well.
During the last battle at Mount Hua, they had quite the conflict with Ji Haotian and Ji Wanrong.
Unexpectedly, just upon arriving in Chang’an, this Prince seemed to have the nose of a dog, sniffing them out almost immediately.
