Chapter 798: Chapter 774:

"If we didn’t have the capability to get close to those criminals like ’Flying through the sky and burrowing underground,’ if we couldn’t get close to that group of criminals, it would have been impossible to complete today’s mission. Moreover, these people are a crucial factor in breaking the 11/05 cases. The 11/05 incidents involved vandalism, robbery, and pillage—it was almost to the point where solving the cases was imperative. If continued to delay, the image of the police would plummet in the eyes of the public."

Soon, the Ministry of Public Security in Tongzhou City immediately dispatched an elite special police force to the scene. The armed team quickly arrived, featuring over twenty officers and two snipers.

"Team leader Zhang!" The leading man of the team immediately reported to Zhang Yantong upon arrival, "All operations will now follow Zhang Yantong’s instructions."

"Uh-huh!" Zhang Yantong glanced at the man. She recognized the team leader of the special forces; he was her college classmate named Wu He. Zhang Yantong smiled and said, "Captain Wu, thanks for your hard work!"

"No worries!" Wu He chuckled and responded, "It’s our duty, and it’s not hard at all. Just tell me, what do you need the Flying Tiger Team to do now?"

"See that window on the tenth floor?" Zhang Yantong pointed to the window from which the hostages had just dropped, and said, "Right now, over twenty hostages are being held in that room by an unknown number of criminals. Do you have any way to get inside and then control the situation?"

Wu He was stunned and immediately looked baffled. Ten stories high, at least twenty to thirty meters up. The easiest way to enter would definitely be taking the stairs or the elevator. Wu He understood that using the stairs or elevator wouldn’t be effective at all. Hence, he immediately dismissed the idea, taking a deep breath and said, "The building is twenty stories high. To get inside without using the stairs or elevator, we would have to go from the rooftop down!"

"Just what I was thinking, but it’s hard to ensure whether the criminals’ accomplices are outside. If people outside notice you entering from above, they might immediately inform the criminals inside!" Zhang Yantong looked intently at Wu He and then said, "What do you think... is that feasible?"

"Uh-huh!" Wu He nodded, looked at Zhang Yantong, and then asked, "Xiao Tong, do you have any ideas?"

Zhang Yantong was taken aback before she smiled and said, "In my opinion, if we want to surprise them and catch them off guard, then we can only have one or two people go in. Too many people might draw their attention."

"Then let me go!" Wu He was just about to speak when another voice came through.

Zhang Yantong recognized the familiar voice and turned her head, surprised to see Ye Chen. "Ye Chen, how did you get here?"

"Uh-huh!" Ye Chen nodded and joked, "Looks like I won’t be escaping fines. All the way here, the cameras fell in love with my handsome appearance!"

Zhang Yantong couldn’t help but burst into laughter at his quip—he had obviously sped over here, yet he had the audacity to say the electronic police fell for him. Ye Chen tidied his tousled hair, having rushed over to the scene right from a romantic encounter with Dian Ling. He glanced up at the tall building and said, "Let me go in!"

"No, you’re not a police officer!" Wu He immediately retorted coldly, "Ye Chen, I’ve heard of you. I know you’re capable, but you’re not a cop, and according to regulations, you’re not allowed up there!"

"Is that so?" Ye Chen frowned.

"Uh-huh!" Zhang Yantong nodded reluctantly, adding, "That’s the rule. Otherwise, if something happened to you, our department would have to face a lot of pressure. So, by the rules, people outside the police are not permitted to enter the scene. Of course, there’s also the concern of them tampering with the crime scene..."

"Ugh, this is nonsense!" Ye Chen couldn’t help cursing, "I’ve been here for almost an hour, right? Why haven’t you solved the problem yet?"

"Ye Chen, I know you’re talented, but I’d advise you to keep your distance!" Wu He said irritably, glancing at Ye Chen. What left a profound impression on Wu He was Ye Chen snatching Zhang Yantong away. Zhang Yantong was his goddess, and Wu He had secretly watched their wedding, deeply hurt inside. He watched his goddess marry someone else.

He had once fantasized about storming their wedding like in a South Korean drama, and whisking the bride away. But fantasies are just fantasies; when it came down to it, he realized he had too many concerns. With so many influential people present, the first thing he had to consider was preserving his stable job within the system. Plus, if Zhang Yantong rejected him in front of friends and relatives, it would be humiliating and might even affect his chances with other women.

Thus, Wu He suppressed his inner thoughts and could only watch his goddess marry someone else, but from that point on, he also harbored resentment towards Ye Chen. Now facing Ye Chen, and given that it was a professional matter, he had to perform well in front of his goddess, naturally not forgetting to belittle Ye Chen while at it.

"Ye Chen, I’d advise you to stay back; this is our special police team’s turf!" Wu He looked at Ye Chen mockingly. Ye Chen narrowed his eyes and then smiled, "Alright, then I’m curious to see how you’re going to save them!"

Wu He had already thrown his words, so naturally he couldn’t say much. He waved his hand, "Brothers, get ready to go!"

"Yes!" Over ten people geared up at the ready. At first glance, they looked impressive—each one brimming with energy, dressed in neat black uniforms, each equipped with an assault rifle, a 54-style pistol, a flashlight, steel wire rope, climbing gloves, multifunctional boots...

A series of combat equipment gave the onlooking crowd a sense of high hopes for victory.

Quickly, under the command of Wu He, more than ten people swiftly rushed into the building. Inside, the special police climbed up to the rooftop using the fire escape, positioning themselves at various angles for coverage. Wu He surveyed the scene and immediately ordered teams of three to repel from four different directions into the building through the windows.

Soon, four teams were formed, leaving two people on the rooftop in charge of the perimeter.

More than ten people rapidly descended from four directions. The steel wire ropes held firm, and the two on the roof crouched with their pistols at the ready, while Wu He stood at the edge of the platform. To showcase his advanced skills, he decided to put on a good show.

"Wow, what... what is that special police officer going to do?"

"He looks so cool standing there!"

"Is he going to jump down from there?"

The onlooking crowd erupted firstly, everyone’s eyes on Wu He.

Wu He glanced down at the densely packed crowd below, resembling ants. Despite that, he quickly spotted Ye Chen and Zhang Yantong in the crowd, who were also looking at him. Wu He felt it was time, and his teammates had already set off.

"What exactly is Wu He trying to do?" Ye Chen frowned.

"Heh, he’s probably challenging you!" Zhang Yantong chuckled.

"Why would he challenge me, have I offended him in any way?" Ye Chen curiously asked.

"Hmph, you took away the woman he liked, how could he not see you as an enemy?" Zhang Yantong chuckled again. Ye Chen quickly realized that Wu He’s hostility stemmed from his affection for Zhang Yantong. Initially, he had thought Wu He was an upright and rigid person. Now, it seemed the guy was nothing more than a show-off.

Wow...

Suddenly, a loud cheer erupted from the crowd. Ye Chen looked up to see Wu He transforming into a Superman in mid-air, leaping off the rooftop, spreading his arms and diving downward.

"Not good!" As soon as Wu He jumped, he realized something was off. He felt around on his person but couldn’t find the needed piece of sponge. The brief moment in the air didn’t allow him much time to think; he decisively pulled his arms back and hugged his head, crashing hard against the wall.

Boom...

A loud crash echoed as Wu He’s back slammed into the wall, audible to everyone below. Instantly, the onlooking crowd fell silent. The impact left everyone feeling as if their hearts had been struck hard.

"Mommy... Is that man okay?" A two-year-old child nestled in his mother’s arms, a french fry in his mouth, mumbled.

"It’s okay, the man just had a little accident!" The stylish mom quickly carried the child away, as she had seen the fresh blood on the wall.

Indeed, Wu He was dazed, having coughed up a mouthful of blood. The impact momentarily pushed him away before he faced the wall and spat out the blood. Fortunately, Wu He was strong, and the collision served only as a test of his resilience. Though his body had taken a hit, his bones were unharmed, and after about a minute, he finally got his bearings.

During that minute, he hung like a hanged ghost outside the tenth floor, unable to move for sixty seconds. A minute passed, Wu He regained his senses, then crawled towards the window on the tenth floor, pulling himself through it, and lay like a dead dog on the carpet inside. Fortunately, it was just a corridor—if he had landed in the hands of the Mad Dragon Gang, he likely would have been beaten severely.
