Chapter 718: Chapter 696:

"Hmm, that would be best!" Lin Ziwen hurriedly nodded.

"But the biggest problem is that I don’t have any money," Yang Yupeng scratched his head and said, "Capital, as discussed in the book, describes the process of original accumulation in capitalism as the most difficult. Once that stage is complete, the money starts to snowball incessantly!"

"How much do you need?" Lin Ziwen quickly asked.

"I need to set up a company, but I don’t want to just create a shell company. Otherwise, other businesses and corporations won’t take you seriously," Yang Yupeng said with a smile. Lin Ziwen nodded; she agreed with this perspective, given the practices of Tianya Group—if they were to cooperate with another company, the first things they’d consider were the other company’s qualifications and financial strength. Without those, even if they cooperated, it would be hard to be at ease.

"So... how much funding do you need?" Lin Ziwen urgently asked.

"Ten million!" Yang Yupeng looked at Lin Ziwen.

*Sss...*

Lin Ziwen instantly gasped; ten million was no small sum for her. Seeing her shocked expression, Yang Yupeng immediately hugged her and laughed, "Silly girl, I’m not asking you to pay this. What are you worried about?"

"I..." Lin Ziwen tensed up, her cheeks flushing red. She clenched her teeth and said, "Yu Peng, don’t worry, I will find a way to cover this money!"

"Heh, where would you get that money from?" Yang Yupeng chuckled, seemingly not taking Lin Ziwen’s statement seriously.

"Hmph, just you watch, I will definitely get you that money!" Lin Ziwen coldly laughed.

Yang Yupeng continued smoking his cigarette, while Lin Ziwen felt turmoil inside, struggling with her conscience. Ever since she had followed Li Ruo, she had never done anything to betray Tianya Group. Borrowing ten million this time shouldn’t be too outrageous, right? Previously, such a thought would’ve been unimaginable for Lin Ziwen. However, now, for love, for Yang Yupeng, she was willing to take the risk.

Of course, ten million was nothing to Tianya Group. Even now, Tianya Group’s liquid assets were rolling in the billions. Missing ten million would go unnoticed and even if the financial department realized, just saying it was "allocated elsewhere" would solve any issues.

As Yang Yupeng predicted, the following afternoon, Lin Ziwen hastily phoned him to meet at a cafe. When they met, Lin Ziwen looked anxious, her face slightly flushed. Yang Yupeng smiled and asked, "Ziwen, what’s wrong?"

"Hee hee, I have a piece of good news and a piece of bad news. Which one do you want to hear first?" Lin Ziwen grinned at Yang Yupeng.

"Hmm, let’s hear the good news first!" Yang Yupeng smiled.

"The good news is, I’ve brought you the ten million for registering your company!" Lin Ziwen held out a kraft paper envelope and pushed it towards him, saying with a smile, "It’s an Industrial and Commercial Bank golden card, registered in my name. The pin is my birthday, all yours!"

Yang Yupeng was stunned, his eyes flashing with anxiety and self-reproach. He quickly masked his emotions and laughed, saying, "You’re not joking, are you?"

"Why would I lie to you?" Lin Ziwen glared at Yang Yupeng, then laughed, "I must tell you, I shifted this money from Tianya Group’s account."

"You..." Yang Yupeng was stunned.

"That’s the bad news I had to tell you!" Lin Ziwen sneakily smiled, "Actually, it’s not really bad news. Tianya Group’s accounts have countless funds; missing ten million is trivial. So, take it and use it without worry, whenever you can pay it back, I’ll just fill the gap!"

"Ziwen, you... how could you be so foolish? If this gets discovered, then... then you’ll be in trouble!" Yang Yupeng became frantic.

"Don’t worry, I’ve been with Mr. Li for so long; even if it’s discovered, my contribution should protect me from major issues," Lin Ziwen smiled faintly, then taking Yang Yupeng’s hand, she said, "So, go ahead and use it!"

"Then... I’ll pay you back as soon as possible!" Yang Yupeng bit his teeth.

...

In Beijing, Zhongnanhai, Mr. Pang was paying a visit to Mr. Liu.

The two were playing chess and conversing; Mr. Pang had Mr. Liu in a tough spot, about to disrupt his strategy completely when unexpectedly, Mr. Liu had a countermove ready, stringing out a series of defense plays that left Mr. Pang struggling to keep up. Both were constantly struggling, waiting for the other to make a mistake, ready to launch a ferocious attack if any error were made.

"You old geezer, daring to challenge me like that!" Mr. Pang angrily captured one of Mr. Liu’s knights.

"Hmph, you oaf, can’t you see this was a trap?" Mr. Liu sneered and then with a grin launched his cannon, obliterating Mr. Pang’s chariot. Mr. Pang was utterly shocked: "Damn, resorting to sneak attacks now, are we? I won’t have it, I demand a do-over!"

"Haha, take-backs? Not a chance!" Mr. Liu laughed heartily as he pocketed Mr. Pang’s chariot.

"Hmph, no do-overs, you say? Shame on you!" Mr. Pang glared at Mr. Liu and said, "Remember when you decided to drive the Heavenly Reversal Gang out of the country? Now you regret it and have me cleaning up your mess. Sometimes in life, there’s no turning back. The step I’m taking back today is small, but you, you’re retracting from a much bigger move. The Fierce Tiger Gang wreaks havoc in China, the Gray Wolf Gang, Thirteen Eagles... all in disarray at home, without any pieces we control possibly managing the underworld here afterward."

"Oh, you cunning old man!" Mr. Liu huffed: "You saw my move coming and walked right into it on purpose, didn’t you?"

"So what if I did?" Mr. Pang laughed heartily. "With my skills, you think I can’t outplay you? Today is just a lesson for you!"

"Fine, I’m no longer playing!" Mr. Liu immediately threw the chess pieces back and took a sip of tea before asking, "How are things on your end? What did Ye Chen say?"

"What else could he say? Stubborn as a bull just like you, flat out refusing to come back!" Mr. Pang said angrily.

"Not coming back? How can he not come back?" Mr. Liu suddenly became furious and slammed his cup on the table, exclaiming, "Does that boy have no sense of collective or national pride at all?!"

"Uh..." Mr. Pang had seemingly expected that response and then with a sly smile said, "Hehe, actually, even without Ye Chen, we’re still fine!"

"What are you suggesting?" Mr. Liu was taken aback.

"Don’t you have a godson named Zhang Bufen?" Mr. Pang chuckled.

"Bufen?" Mr. Liu paused and then asked, "Why are you asking about Bufen? You’re not thinking of putting him in charge, are you?"

"You guessed right—after training in the Military District, the kid’s probably in good shape. You could have him lead a band of rogues to form a gang, and you could support them from behind!" Pang Lai egged on from the side.

"But, the kid isn’t strong enough!" Mr. Liu seemed reluctant.

"Sigh, a flower grown in a greenhouse will never be as fragrant as a wild one," Mr. Pang chuckled. "If you don’t give this kid some tough experiences, how will you ever help him rise to power? We both want a godson to inherit our positions. You have Zhang Bufen, and I have Ye Chen. Surely you don’t want my godson outdoing yours?"

"Hmph, Zhang Bufen is no worse than Ye Chen!" Mr. Liu glared at Mr. Pang.

Soon, Zhang Bufen was summoned from the Nanjing Military District to Beijing, Zhongnanhai. This kid had been doing quite well in the Military District, using his charisma and some financial resources to win many people over. Even his superiors had to respect and follow his commands and orders.

Zhang Bufen swaggered into Zhongnanhai and stood at Mr. Liu’s door, being scolded.

"This isn’t just a fight against the underworld, Bufen," Mr. Liu smiled as he observed Zhang Bufen. After six months of training, he had become quite robust and muscular, far from his previous pretty-boy appearance, much to Mr. Liu’s satisfaction. "This is also a great chance to confront Ye Chen. Haven’t you always wanted to outdo him? Now’s your perfect opportunity."

"Godfather, where is Ye Chen now?" Zhang Bufen had been somewhat out of touch with the outside world while in the Military District.

"He’s in the United States!" Mr. Liu chuckled and said, "I’d planned to have Ye Chen come back, but that ungrateful boy refused. So, I’m counting on you this time. You better stand up for me."

"Sure thing, godfather. You can count on me!" Zhang Bufen was thrilled within. After restraining himself for so long, he was ready to make a significant mark. With the influence he had accumulated in the Military District, plus a bunch of rowdy soldiers under his command and Mr. Liu’s backing, forming a gang would be a breeze.

"Excellent!" Mr. Liu chuckled.
