The Beautiful Boss's Personal Bodyguard -
Chapter 527 - 526
Chapter 527: 526
This kind of debate is held once every five years, it cannot be said not to be grand, many people crack their heads trying to squeeze in, but opportunities are sparse. Thus, in order to catch the attention of others, many people resort to every trick they can think of, using various little tactics that all start to make their appearance, and the most fitting, as well as the most useful occasion, naturally, is this grand assembly. Therefore, many people naturally regard this fellow who dares to disrupt the scene as someone who seeks to create a spectacle; otherwise, he wouldn’t come here to make a fool of himself.
The lama gave him a glance, his face somewhat displeased, although he understood that this was an assembly where everyone could debate, yet for him, the appearance of such a disruptor definitely brought stifled irritation.
"I wonder what brilliant insights this young friend might have, please feel free to speak out so everyone can discuss together."
Once again, the crowd’s gaze focused on Ye Tian, this time with even more varied looks in their eyes—jealousy? Schadenfreude? Perhaps other sentiments as well. Our poor Ye Tian thus confusingly stepped onto the stage.
Looking left and right, he found that the stairs to the stage were on the far right, exactly opposite to where he was standing, with more than a hundred people in between. Seeing that the platform was not very tall, Ye Tian climbed up using both his hands and feet, reached the platform, and brushed off the dust on his body before bowing to the masters on the stage.
The crowd was stunned and then burst into laughter. Normally, those who ascend the stage to speak about Buddhism have an ethereal demeanor. Unlike this young man, crawling up with his hands and feet—shameful at a minimum. Truly, I don’t know what this youngster was thinking, but now, those who were somewhat jealous of this young man started to revel in his embarrassment. After all this fuss, it turned out he was just an ignorant young chap, not knowing the heights of the skies and the depths of the earth!
The lama was quite polite, folded his hands together in prayer and asked, "I wonder if this young friend was just laughing at this poor monk? If there’s something laughable, please enlighten me."
Ye Tian hurriedly waved his hand, saying, "Great master, you misunderstand. I was just coincidentally reminded of something amusing just now, hence the laughter; I was not laughing at the master’s Buddhist teachings."
The lama monk continued to inquire, "It’s a coincidence that you thought of the amusing thing while this poor monk was preaching. May I know which part of my words led to your amusing thoughts?"
Ye Tian became a bit annoyed, minding my own business, why does it bother you so much! You even insist on making me clarify everything. I think you’re just being unreasonable.
"Amitabha, is the young friend a Huaxia person?"
This was asked in the Huaxia language, which Ye Tian of course understood, he turned and said, "I am Ye Tian, indeed a person from Huaxia."
Fellow countrymen meeting fellow countrymen, their eyes brimming with tears.
"It’s better to speak directly, everything has its own laws, no one can claim what they think is absolutely correct in this world."
It looks like, someone from my own country feels closer indeed! Ye Tian could tell, this unfamiliar monk was helping him, intentional or not, these words were indeed addressed to him.
"Young friend, what the Divine Monk said is true, just speak directly, there is no absolute law in the world. If what I said was the only truth, there wouldn’t be this Buddhist assembly."
It seems like this lama intends to stick to his guns, but Ye Tian simply lacks materials on Buddhist Scriptures inside him. Now, to sit and discourse with these masters who have grown up soaked in Scriptures, that’s simply seeking a death wish. During his time at the temple, he had a brief exchange with the Great Zen Master, but that was not about the law. It was more about commenting on various magazine figures, saying this one has a nice face, that one has moderately firm breasts, and while occasionally quoting the great principle of "All Phenomena are Illusion," those little tricks, if used here, would clearly be laughed at.
Might as well play the dead horse as a living horse doctor, I can’t discourse or chant Buddhist scriptures, but persistent wheedling and nagging are my strengths, if I really can’t talk him down, I’ll drag it out and wear him down, it’s just talking after all, who’s afraid! With this thought, Ye Tian even found a bit of confidence in himself, and looking at that lama again, he didn’t seem so formidable anymore.
"Great master, what I laughed at just now was not you, but the Buddhist teachings you spoke of. If the difference between good and evil in people could truly be decided by Buddha Heart, wouldn’t we all just be walking corpses? Rather than that, it’d be better to shed this foul physical flesh and simply use a Buddha Heart to walk the world. Such illusory things, are they really that important to the great master?"
Illusory? What’s the difference between that and talking nonsense! Everyone gasped in admiration, this youngster really does not cease to startle people with his speech!
The lama scoffed coldly, "Then according to the young friend’s view, how should this Buddha Heart be explained? How should Zen cultivation be explained? Isn’t what I said just nonsense, and it should instead be up to them to seek immortality and freedom?"
The crowd couldn’t help but sigh; look, these two have started cursing in the streets.
Originally, the unknown youngster calling the lama’s talk "illusory" essentially meant it was all nonsense, but the latter’s response was even more refined, talking about "seeking immortality, seeking freedom," wasn’t that just an act of lawlessness? The Buddhist debate conference is getting interesting now.
The Buddhists below are also human, aside from Buddhist teachings, they also have the mindset of enjoying the show, otherwise, they wouldn’t have come here. Just seeking some profound Buddhist verbal sparring.
A monk in the back chanted Amitabha and then withdrew, two against one, after all, isn’t a good thing, and it’s bothersome when bystanders add more trouble.
For a moment, only Ye Tian and the lama remained on the stage. Ye Tian silently cursed, this thieving baldy, how dare he run off just like that! Hey, he’s playing with me!
An unknown ordinary Buddhist ascends the World Buddhist Debate Conference stage, and moreover, manages to hold his own for several rounds against a high monk without losing ground; this reputation if spread out, many temples would compete to recruit this person. In today’s commercial society, even the abbot of Shaolin Temple has joined the dining table to entertain guests, what else is impossible. A group of people half envious, half jealous watched Ye Tian on stage.
"What is Zen? It’s nothing but one’s own true heart. Initially, when Subhuti asked the Western Heaven Tathagata how to subdue one’s heart, Buddha merely said simply five words, ’My heart is Buddha Heart.’ Everyone has their own Zen in their hearts, the farmer cultivates the Zen of crops, the shepherd boy cultivates the Zen of herding, the street sweeper naturally cultivates the Zen of sweeping streets, as for criminals they cultivate the Zen of breaking the law and creating disorder. Zen doesn’t differentiate between good and bad, nor between righteous and evil. Zen cultivation is Buddha cultivation, good and evil both come from the heart, this ties into the wondrous correlation with Buddha Heart, if even one’s heart is evil beyond redemption, that is the greatest evil. What does the Divine Monk think?"
