Chapter 485: 484

The Great Zen Master saw that the white light strikingly emanated from between Ye Tian’s right fingers.

One Finger Zen, merely One Finger Zen.

Ye Tian opened his eyes, which gleamed like the stars, jet black and shining, shooting straight towards the Bodhi Tree across from him. Turning his head, the Great Zen Master excitedly discovered that the light flickering in Ye Tian’s eyes came from the Heavenly Spiritual Power. No, not from the heavens. The Great Zen Master felt somewhat uncertain, how come this kid’s gaze looks so innocent, the Heavenly Spiritual Power shouldn’t carry such resentment!

This kid’s got something hidden inside him!

The Great Zen Master was inwardly startled; this was a resentment that even One Finger Zen couldn’t resolve, how many issues was this kid harboring!

"Zen Master, you’re not deceiving me, are you?"

Ye Tian blinked and gazed at his own fingertips, lost in thought. Looking at him like that, it didn’t seem like he was showing signs of going astray.

The Great Zen Master nodded and lowered his head, saying, "You have already mastered the Soft and Gentle Panchen Finger."

"Then why don’t I feel like I’ve become awesome?"

The Great Zen Master said calmly, "You were never awesome to begin with."

Here, the Zen Master omitted the word "pen." Ye Tian gave him a white look, "How pretentious!"

...

At the doorstep of the dilapidated house atop the Nushen Tower, the yard still contained those four monks and one girl, though the situation seemed somewhat tense and on edge.

"Junior brother, how is it?"

The Bodhi Master, wearing the dull yellow kasaya, had a touch of crimson at the corner of his mouth, which he gently wiped away with his hand, revealing a slight smile with a handsome curve. This little monk was indeed young, even younger than Jenny, and his face was quite handsome. But this smile added an eerie quality to his clean face.

"It’s nothing serious. In fact, it’s rather interesting. Senior brother, I’m afraid you won’t be able to take the Buddha Bead Relics with you."

Skull Master’s face flashed with surprise, then turned grim, "Why do you say such a thing, junior brother?"

The Bodhi Master hesitated for a moment, and eventually just moved his lips without speaking. The old Esoteric Brahmin woman sitting cross-legged in the courtyard sharply questioned, "Bodhi, you are a Master, yet you attacked the Great Zen Master of the temple with a Bodhi seed, are you planning to rebel?"

Bodhi shook his head, "I have no intention of killing, how could there be a rebellion? The Esoteric Master is overly concerned. Besides, the girl by your side is extraordinarily talented. Given time and training, it’s not impossible for her cultivation to surpass all four of us in the future."

"I naturally know more than you do."

"Since the Esoteric Master already has this favored disciple, why not leave the young man inside the tower for me. Bodhi also needs someone to inherit his mantle. People of the Buddhist path only regard destiny, not the origins."

So, he was eyeing Ye Tian.

"Humph, there are tens of thousands of Brahmin disciples, yet you want to compete with an old woman like me for someone?"

Bodhi Master faintly smiled, "Brahmin and Esoteric belong to the same tradition, why should Esoteric Master make such a clear distinction? Even within the Esoteric Sect, with your cultivation, it would be quite an effort, wouldn’t it? Rather than expending energy, why not let us young people handle some matters."

"Humph! Young? An old monster over a hundred years old still dares to call themselves young."

...

"Ah? He’s already 160 years old!"

Ye Tian’s mouth was wide open, so wide that not even an egg could fill it. After a long while, he asked the white-bearded Great Zen Master, "How old are you then? 200 years old?"

The Great Zen Master lifted his head and thought for a moment, seemingly unable to remember. He then lowered his head and began to count on his fingers, only to shake his head after a long time, "I forgot. It’s been a long time since I last celebrated my birthday."

"Just spare me! Turtles can live a thousand years, and I bet you’re a species that’s lived for a thousand years."

The Great Zen Master cast him a resentful look, "If it wasn’t for the fact that I can’t beat you now, I would definitely make you suffer."

Ye Tian brandished his finger menacingly, but upon seeing the old Zen Master quietly close his eyes, he suddenly felt that his attempt to scare him was pointless. Withdrawing his finger, he turned around to take a closer look at the Bodhi Tree. But what he saw startled him.

If Ye Tian still had some confidence in dealing with the Bodhi Tree’s flowers just a moment ago, now he had no confidence at all. Just by looking at its appearance, one could tell which was imposing and which was feeble!

The tree was thirty feet tall with a girth that would take two people to embrace. The small tree that had just reached his chest was, at some unknown time, now a towering giant tree that touched the sky!

The branches flailed wildly, flashing terrifying shades of green. The soft branches seemed like a myriad of demons dancing wildly, and even more terrifying was the inky black Evil Spirit Array at the base of the tree. The previously vague lines had now fully formed into a bizarre pattern with irregular lines and neat circles or square shapes, looking extremely weird. Ye Tian, who considered himself to have quick wits, could not fathom this strange Array.

A cold wind arose, branches danced wildly, and a horde of monsters burst forth from the ground.

"This is nurturing the evil with good!" exclaimed the Great Zen Master. He had thought that the Bodhi Master used the power of the Evil Spirit Array to absorb the evil qi from the Gate of Hell to nourish the Bodhi Tree’s growth, but it turned out his guess was in the opposite direction. At the same time, the Great Zen Master gave a wry smile. How could the Bodhi Tree, a Divine Tree of the Nine Heavens, be suppressed by a mere Evil Spirit Array? If this Array could provide enough dramatic energy, the power of evil it could amass goes without saying.

To do evil deeds, this Evil Spirit Array was naturally much more effective than the Bodhi Tree itself.

The ground was torn apart with crackling sounds, slowly becoming soaked with various malicious ghosts bearing their fangs and claws. Some showed only a head, others half a body as they flailed their arms. These ghosts were wearing tattered clothes, yet their faces were unclear; only the solidified dark winds and clouds above them could be seen, swirling around. Each time they passed, the ghosts on the ground would howl in agony and then climb more vigorously from beneath the earth.

This cold wind was truly emanating from the Bodhi Tree glowing with green Buddhist light. Ye Tian began to doubt his own eyes. This was the legendary Bodhi Tree? How could it summon so many evil spirits from Hell.

Ye Tian was panicked and quickly turned around to ask, "Zen Master, what do we do now?"

"Chop down the tree!"

"Chop down the tree?! Are you kidding me?"

The Great Zen Master looked at him calmly and retorted, "Do I look like I’m kidding you?"

"Yes!"

The Zen Master sighed, "Indeed, I am kidding you!"

"Boss, can we not joke around like that? Can we just focus on getting out alive?"

The Great Zen Master raised an eyebrow and said sarcastically, "This tree is formidable. Without me, we would both be done for."

"I know!"

"Wanna see me take action?"

He nodded frantically like a pecking chicken. He needed to obtain the Buddha Bead Relics, but first and foremost, he had to stay alive. Since he had already lost face anyway, for the sake of survival, he might as well lose it one more time.
