Chapter 282: 282

"Uncle."

"Little rascal, get in here!"

Ye Tian wrapped an arm around the neck and pulled this military legend inside. Shen Jingwei stumbled and almost fell, then stood there grinning sheepishly. Zhuge Qingyun’s mouth hung open in surprise. Long Daxiang looked much better; at least he wasn’t baring his teeth in fright, but he was still quite uneasy. When had they ever seen Shen Jingwei show such a side? Far from the shadow of a military legend, he seemed more like a mischievous little hooligan.

The two of them stood there stupidly, watching Shen Jingwei and his nephew grinning foolishly at each other, forgetting to even step inside the house. Tang Su heard the noise outside and walked out of the bedroom, saw Ye Tian and the other, and knew that this adolescent was Shen Jingwei, the very nephew Ye Tian had spoken about.

"Don’t just chat, won’t you let the guests in? Come on in and have a seat. Haven’t had dinner yet, right? I’ll go cook right away." Tang Su’s face wore a warm smile as she gestured for the guests to come in, the epitome of a good wife and mother—this home was her domain to watch over.

Zhuge Qingyun and Long Daxiang were both taken aback, then walked in dazedly. They wouldn’t have expected to find such a beautiful and dignified woman in this room. In the military, even the pigs at the logistics farm were male; they really hadn’t had the chance to see a woman.

Right when Tang Su turned around, she caught sight of Shen Jingwei standing right in front of her, flanked by two comrades.

"Auntie."

Tang Su was taken aback.

"Auntie!"

Zhuge Qingyun and Long Daxiang called out in unison, startling Tang Su once more. She then blushed and moved aside, "I’ll go prepare lunch."

Ye Tian looked at Shen Jingwei and covertly gave him a thumbs-up, that twinkling in his eyes clearly said, "You’re doing great, kiddo!" Shen Jingwei, too, blinked and replied, "Relieving uncle’s worries is my duty." The other two casually walked to the side, one leaning against the wall, the other squatting on the ground.

Ye Tian patted Shen Jingwei’s shoulder, sizing up his grown-up nephew, "You’ve gotten strong, and tanned too. Now you won’t have to worry about Pig Hu calling you ’pretty boy’."

"He dares! I’ll break his bones!"

"Look at you, all tough," Ye Tian glanced at his shoulder, where his epaulets had been removed, "Your epaulets are off, what’s not right with your post, huh?"

Shen Jingwei blinked, "It’s a secret."

"Bullshit!" Ye Tian gave him a blank look.

Tang Su opened the fridge, ready to prepare lunch, but remembering there’d be another person with a body size similar to Zhang Houtu and Zhang Daniu, realized the food in the fridge might not suffice. So, she took the car keys and went downstairs to buy groceries. As soon as Tang Su left, the other two started to wander around on their own, always feeling constrained with a woman around.

Dragon Daxiang eyed the sofa in the living room, thinking of sitting down and relaxing a bit, but Little Zhuge started nagging, "With a fat pig body like yours, aren’t you afraid you’ll break the sofa?" Dragon Daxiang stroked his chin and looked up at the sky, thinking there might be some truth to that. Then he walked over to Little Zhuge and, catching him off guard, landed a sweeping leg that took Little Zhuge down. Seeing the situation taking a bad turn, Little Zhuge exerted force in his waist, attempting a kip up... but couldn’t manage it, ending up with a heavy butt on his stomach. Dragon Daxiang, with his mountainous figure, pressed down on Little Zhuge in full, resting his chin on his hands in a thoughtful pose. If it weren’t for Little Zhuge’s desperate pleas, they would likely spend the whole day in that position.

Little Zhuge stood to the side, watching the uncle-nephew pair’s conversation, and felt his skin crawl more and more as he listened.

"Kid, what rank have you reached? Colonel or General? When will you wear that uniform out so I can show off in it too? It will be so awe-inspiring. If someone comes looking for trouble again, we’ll just hang the uniform by the door to see if anyone dares to approach. Heh, it deters people in the day and prevents thievery at night. Couldn’t be better."

Idiot. That was Little Zhuge’s thought. He couldn’t fathom how a Demon Blade like Shen Jingwei could have such a moronic uncle. Were they really related? Such a gene variation, tsk tsk. However, what Shen Jingwei said next convinced him: these two really were relatives.

"Uncle, why didn’t you say so earlier? If you’d told me you liked military uniforms, I’d have borrowed Old Gu Canghai’s for you, even just for a while. He has a star on his shoulder—way more impressive than my two bars. I saw an even more badass one during the last exercise, with two stars, but we are not close, and I happened to beat up his guard, so probably can’t borrow that one. Next time, perhaps."

That was a load of nonsense. What was maddening was that Ye Tian actually seemed to consider it for a moment before nodding his head in agreement, saying, "Okay, we’ll wait for next time."

Zhuge Qingyun almost popped his eyes out. When he finally came back to his senses, he muttered, "Brother Wei, if the brothers from the northeast heard this, they’d tear you apart. If you’re going to borrow a uniform, it should be from a General from our northeast..." Before he could finish, Dragon Daxiang had already grabbed him by the neck and dragged him into the next room.

The two men sat down, and Ye Tian, seeing Shen Jingwei’s bold sitting posture, clearly understood: the wild boy who ran out of Shennongjia had begun to change. With his chest out and head held high, he didn’t lack essence, energy, or spirit. This piece of raw jade was developing at an astonishing pace, gradually shining with dazzling brilliance.

"Are you getting used to life in the army?"

"What’s not to get used to? It’s pretty much like what they show on TV, just marching and running, nothing much. How are you and Auntie doing? When are you going to have kids?"

Ye Tian chuckled, "That’s not something I can decide alone; it takes effort from both sides. When we do have a child, you’ll need to cough up a cash gift."

"That’s a given," Shen Jingwei agreed heartily, then added with a meaningful tone, "Auntie is just the kind of woman who can match you—generous and steady. In ancient times, she would be a queen, a perfect empress. I think you two are a good match."

Little Zhuge, listening from the sidelines, pursed his lips. Although he was from Beiping City, he still had the discernment expected of him. It was apparent to anyone with eyes that there was a significant gap between their statuses.

As the most outstanding representative of the third generation in the family, Zhuge Qingyun naturally had a discerning eye. There were many talented people in the family, but in Old Man Zhuge’s view, they were all softies, as obedient and dumb as sheep—good listeners but wolves’ prey once outside. Only Zhuge Qingyun gave the old man some hope.
