The Baroness Misbehaves
Chapter 85: A Mysterious Guest (2)

Chapter 85: A Mysterious Guest (2)

Cassian was impeccably dressed in an elegant outfit that exuded a sense of sophistication and refinement. An appearance that all gazes failed to turn a blind eye on when he walked past the crowded ballroom, hands casually tucked in his trouser pocket like a devil who couldn’t care less about the world, or about anyone in particular.

He was wearing a black coat with a deep-red velvety collar. The coat was impeccably fitted, showcasing his well-toned physique without being too tight or constrictive.

Underneath the coat, he wore a crisp red shirt with a high collar that emphasized his chiseled jawline. His shirt was tucked neatly into a pair of perfectly tailored black trousers that are tapered at the ankles, giving him a sleek and modern look.

On his feet, he wore a pair of shiny black patent leather dress shoes that gleamed in the dim light of the ballroom, and his tawny-dark-hair was smoothly combed to the back while a few rough strands that peeked out at the front fell at the left side of his face in natural curls, softening his features.

As he moved through the ballroom, heading for the stairs, admirable glances visited his direction as well as constant murmurings he could easily grab due to his hypersensitive ears, but he didn’t mind it since it gave him some sort of pride that he could get the ladies talking from his mere presence.

He was a picture of refined elegance and genteel charm, his effortless and understated grace drew the attention of all who lay eyes upon him, yet his conspicuous wickedness wasn’t something the guest would remain oblivious to, so no one dared to go near him and could only offer silent compliments.

With his piercing Amber-brown eyes and winning smile, Cassian was the very epitome of a dashing gentleman, and his refined outfit serves as the perfect complement to his innate class and style.

As he stood at the end of the stairs, he clapped his hand twice, gaining the attention of the guests and silence reigned at once. He caught sight of a few familiar faces, Klaus, Orson and his sister, the councilmen and some of Carmathen’s bureaus.

"As the groom of this event, I’d like to offer my sincere apologies since I couldn’t invite everyone to my wedding." His voice was audible and unintentionally coaxing, leaving half of the single ladies to swoon over his hypnotic voice.

"To repay Everyone for the untimely news of my wedding, my father, lovely mother and the working staffs were of great support in putting this wonderful arrangements together, and since not everyone is familiar with my beautiful bride....who is now my legally wedded wife, it is with great honor that I introduce to everyone the woman who had stolen my heart for herself. Ladies and gentlemen, please..."

Immediately, all eyes shifted to the top of the stairs as everyone was trying to catch sight of who the upper west woman was, and they were curious to know what was so special about her that the Lord Cassian himself took great interest in someone who didn’t belong to their class.

When Madeline descended from the stairs, all gazes were instantly fixed on the beautiful woman who was trying so hard to compose herself in front of many crowds, as the only bright light in the room was currently fixed on her.

Seeing so many guests, Madeline tried not to freeze since she hadn’t expected the Duke to invite lots of people, and the anxious part is how the people present were those from powerful bloodlines.

Some she could recognize since she once stole glances into Roland’s newspaper.

’Deep breaths Maddie.’ she inwardly consoled herself before making her move down the long staircase.

Taking each step at a time, Madeline locked gazes with Cassian who’s eyes seemed to sparkle as she continued to take each step at a time. ’Don’t rush’ was one of Inna’s instructions and meeting Cassian’s warm gaze, Madeline felt relieved to some extent as she came to stand before him at the end of the stairs.

"My Lady." Taking her right hand in his, he dropped a kiss at the top of her palm, causing the lady’s cheeks to soften into the pinkest shades as she smiled at his gesture, and a couple of guests could be seen smiling as well.

Was there really a day Cassian can act so gentlemanly? Thought Madeline as the young lad lifted his head up to meet her astonished gaze.

"Will you take the first dance with me?" He requested, and Madeline curtsied in return before placing her hand back on his again.

"It would be an honor."

They could hear soft applauds from the crowds as they took the center of the floor, and the Orchestra began their magic.

Frederick who stood beside Elaine couldn’t help but whisper. "I never thought I’d be alive to see Lord Cassian behave positively in an event."

"Don’t be too excited Frederick, we can only hope he remains like this until the event ends." Answered Elaine as she knew her son too well to know he must be hiding his plans under that innocent facade of his.

Watching the two couples dance with such passion in their gazes, the single ladies who were present were filled with envy, yet couldn’t risk showing it out.

"They both look perfect, can’t decide who seduced who first." One of the lady’s whispered as she stopped a servant to grab a drink from the tray she held.

"Why would Lord Cassian feel the need to seduce anyone, it has to be the girl." Her partner concluded in obvious irritation.

"Such types of marriages won’t last, believe me when I say this." Another lady added haughtily as she harrumphed.

"Do tell, they look happy together so don’t utter such nonsense. As for me, I will wait for the day she gives birth, their baby would be so out of this world!" Another one exclaimed excitedly.

"Their baby would look just as good as the both of them, I can bet on it."

At the back area of the ballroom, the young lad with catchy red hair silently watched the couple’s with a glass of whiskey in his grasp. He quickly emptied his glass before dropping it on a tray as one of the servants strode past him.

When everyone’s concentration was settled on both couples who had successfully snatched the spotlight, he used it as an opportunity to sneak away from the party and enter the hallway.

He ran into Amadeus who was currently hurrying to enter the ballroom, but ended up bumping into the young man who was also pissed that he got stopped in his tracks.

"Forgive me." Without looking to see who it was, Amadeus walked past him, but when he realized he bumped into a stranger, he turned around to see who it might be, but to his surprise, the stranger was no longer in sight.

"Huh??" He was surprised as he was confused, but he didn’t bother to look for this stranger since he was already late for the event.

Meanwhile, the stranger kept walking through the corridor and took a corner like he knew exactly where he was going. Not too long, he arrived at the darker part of the mansion that had been restricted, and a corny smile graced his lips.

"Let’s see what else you’re hiding."

When he wanted to go in, a feminine voice made him halt as his eyes widened in alarm.

"Excuse me sir, but that part doesn’t lead to the ballroom."

Hearing the voice that had come between his plans, he turned around to see the figure of a young lady whose expression was blunt. Her brown eyes widened slightly at the sight of the man, but that was it.

"What are you doing here?" Inna questioned the young man who took unhurried steps to stand before the unknown lady who had caught him.

"Can you help me find the men’s washroom?" He asked, hinting at Inna that he was looking for the washroom and got lost.

"Who are you?" She quizzed when the stranger didn’t look like someone she was familiar with in the event.

"Your face is new here."

"I came with the council, any problem?" He tilted his head at her, and Inna straightforwardly responded.

"I don’t like suspicious people, but if you’re in need of the washroom, it is down the hallway, not up here."

"Can’t you show me?"

"I don’t escort men when they need to do their business." And she turned around, getting ready to leave when she heard him say. "And I thought the lady’s were meant to be nice on this occasion."

"I’m not the Belle of the event, I owe you no politeness, but I’d appreciate it if you take your leave and join the guests downstairs."

She feigned a polite smile, ushering him out and the young lad, who was amused by the young girl’s no-nonsense attitude, didn’t utter a word as he left.
