Chapter 73: The Symptoms (1)

Madeline’s breathing hitched when she felt his sensuous mouth against the nape of her neck. His unforseen exploit had sent her body rigid against the wall, and she could barely move a finger as she tried to process what was about to take place.

His action was so sudden, so unexpected, and Madeline could feel her eyes spin to the back of her head when he didn’t give her enough time to prepare for what he was about to do to her.

Like that wasn’t enough trouble, her mind went fuggy when he leaned so close that she could feel the heat radiating from his robust body, and what set her off completely was when he started to suck on the skin on her neck. If she recalled clearly, that was the area she got hurt, but....but why was he sucking her blood?

Even weirder, why was she feeling hot from it?

"C...Cas?" Her voice quivered when she felt his warm tongue go up and down against her reddened skin in a titillating manner. He continued to suck, lick and take whatever he wanted from her like someone who had been possessed and was desperate to get the antidote that could free him from it.

So much so that she could feel him bite her neck slightly, and her hands impulsively reached to grab the collar of his shirt, fighting against the temptation of letting him do as he pleased. It was painful, but there was another strange feeling she couldn’t deny with his mouth and tongue tasting her skin and making her shudder.

"Hold on." When she tried to push him off so she could have enough space to fully catch her breath, the young lad resisted and trapped both her hands behind her back while continuously feasting on the taste of her blood.

With each passing second, Madeline began to feel her body grow even hotter from their close proximity as he continued, and her legs were at the point of going numb. She would have fallen to her knees if he hadn’t steadied her with his waist pressed against hers.

What on Earth has come over him?!!

"Cassian! S...stop it!"

At the final call of his name, he paused when he detected the seriousness in her trembling voice. Still, he didn’t move away from her neck as though he was reluctant to leave her neck alone, but after coming to the realization that what he was doing was past normal, he pulled back, recounting on what he just did.

Madeline’s face was flushed down to her chest, and what stimulated her even more was when he licked his lips so fervently, like a predator who hasn’t had enough from its prey, and Madeline felt the need to run, yet her body never listens.

Cassian..." Madeline’s breath quickened when he rested his forehead against hers.

Just like her, he was also catching his breath, and what made Madeline shudder was when he brushed his lips against hers in a soft caress, it was a light movement that sent her heart picking up speed, and Madeline instinctively found herself leaning to taste what his lips felt like.

But before she could do that, he suddenly pulled back and walked away without saying a word or even caring to explain what he just did.

Madeline watched his back as he walked away, taking a corner and disappearing from her sight. Due to the fact her legs were still shaky, she sank to the ground when he was no longer in sight to see or sense her predicament.

Touching the area where he had kissed her, the aftereffect of his kiss still lingered on her neck, and Madeline didn’t know if she should refer to that as a kiss, or something else.

Looking around and reminding herself that she was in the open corridor where servants or anyone could easily spot her, she rose to her feet while placing her hand to the walls for support.

He did this to her, yet he walked away like nothing happened. Madeline didn’t know how to feel because her emotions were currently mixed up. When she observed her neck through the mirror, it had stopped bleeding.

Bursting into an empty room without hesitation, Cassian stepped into the room and quickly closed the door, his fingers searching for the locks so he could jam the door to avoid anyone disturbing him.

He didn’t even wait a second before sinking to the ground with his back against the door. His fingers clutched into his hair as he tried to picture what he just did, and he could barely believe it. He undid the three buttons of his chest as he shifted his collar to invite the cool air in as his skin seemed to be burning.

"What the fuck did I just do?!!" For the first time, Cassian felt mortified by his own actions. Why shouldn’t he be? Going marbles over someone’s blood was inhumane, and the fact he did it to no one other than his wife occupied his heart with guilt.

"She was injured, I didn’t even ask what hurt her." The more he thought about how foolish he behaved out there, the more he hated himself for doing it, but it was completely unlike him to begin with.

He couldn’t resist the pull of going after her blood, and why did her blood taste so...so.... euphoric?

"I’m in trouble." He felt he had been knocked out by a strong aphrodisiac when the heat in his system refused to calm. He couldn’t think properly, his mind was foggy and he had left the place to avoid doing something even more treacherous in the corridor.

"Why...why did you do that??" The more he asked himself, the more difficult it was to answer. Out of frustration, he removed the blindfold from his eyes out of fury and got to his feet.

"Those guys, what did they do to me??" Thinking back to Elijah, he remembered how many times he got bitten by that man. He also recalled him saying something about a test, and the more he reminisced on what Elijah had spewed the other day, the more his discomfort grew and he shook his head, refusing to believe in such fallacy.

"No, that couldn’t be possible. It’s not!" Cassian didn’t want to believe it was possible, but remembering what happened after he got buried, he had survived it even when he knew he had given up on living. His wounds had started healing in just a day, and his senses had become more sensitive than they were before.

Today, he’s lusting over his wife’s blood, what’s going to come next after that??

"Open the door!" Orson’s voice behind the door was what he heard next, followed by a knocking sound that brought Cassian back to the present.

"Cas."

When he didn’t perceive any blood scent from Orson, he dashed for the door and opened it. Before Orson could say a word to him, Cassian had dragged him in and locked the door once again.

Orson was speechless and nearly asked how he was able to even do that, but remained silent since Cassian wasn’t someone that could be understood in a day.

"What’s up with you? I saw you coming here and I imagined you were being chased." Orson stated as he stepped further into the room, not glancing at Cassian’s way.

"Orson."

"I came to see how you were doing," his friend continued speaking. "...how your health was and if you feel better, but don’t think I’ll be nice to you after you...!!.." Orson turned around to start their bantering, but he fell short of words when he met Cassian’s gaze.

Like a ghost, his face paled instantly, looking thoroughly distraught by what he was seeing and he swallowed the words he wanted to utter. His eyes bulged in their sockets as he took a step back, not sure if he could believe what was being shown before his gaze.

"Am I imagining things?" Thought Orson.

"What is it? Why did you go silent?" Noticing how his friend had gone unnecessarily mute, Cassian brows knitted into worry until he heard Orson speak again, except this time, his voice came out like someone who was frightened to the core.

"Cass.....your eyes.....why are your eyes....red???!"
