Chapter 55: A One On One Meeting (2)

What do you do after successfully making it behind the enemy’s line?

Leisurely rising to his feet to look at the red cloaked being, Cassian stood before the unknown fellow who hadn’t moved an inch from the threshold he was standing on, divided by the darkness from outside, and the dim lights from the inside. The door he had ruthlessly bursted open weakly flapped with the light wind since the hinges were at the point of breaking free from the edges of the door.

Strangely, the red cloaked being confusedly cocked his head to the side after scanning the young lad from head to toe, almost awed that the mortal didn’t cower in retreat before his presence, but instead, kept his head high, and the audacity he had to literally look him right in the face.

They were both using a cloak, and there wasn’t much of a difference between their tall heights either. Just like Geoffrey had said, Cassian equally sensed a whole different aura from the hunter himself. The atmosphere felt so heavy that it was easy for one to pick up a knife and cut through.

It was a terrible mix of intimidation.

"Where is Geoffrey?" The voice of the cloaked being drifted with the wind that had invaded the room due to the opened door.

Finally taking a step into the house and stopping in his tracks after making it to the living room, his face was magically shadowed in the darkness of his cloak, and Cassian still showed not even the tiniest bit of fear despite noticing his predatory advances.

One that reminded him of a killing intent, and there was no better time to start keeping a mental note on what these people were.

"I really can’t tell if the cloak you’re wearing has blinded your vision completely, but whoever you’re looking for isn’t here." Came Cassian’s blatant retort. His finger reaching for the trigger of the gun he hid behind his back, already getting prepared in case the hunter tried to strike.

"You’re Cassian." The cloaked being uttered his name with distaste, slowly drawing out one of the silver twin blades he hung behind his back. "You’ve been quite an interesting prey to follow, and I’ve been hoping for the day I get to face you, one on one, and isn’t tonight just my luck."

The voice of the hunter was unfamiliar to Cas’s ears, but he was still hell-bent on revealing the face of this hunter, and also, why did he kill Maddie’s uncle?

"If you put it like that then you should feel honored." The corner of Cassian’s mouth lifted. "Honored to have your life crumbled in my hands." And he proceeded to shoot the cloak man who instantly dodged the first, the second and the third bullet that came his way with undenying speed.

The cloaked being didn’t give any response, but a mocking sneer graced his thin lips as he dashed towards Cassian with his glinting sword.

For a few seconds, Cassian was mesmerized by the inhumane speed this fellow had, but fortunately for him, he was able to avoid being slashed by the incredibly sharpened sword, and he ended up meeting the wall with his back due to his evasion.

His attacker didn’t stop and continued to swing his blade at him with such movements Cassian considered to be of expertise. Cassian had to duck when the sword violently tried to separate his head from his body, and his eyes widened in disbelief when it penetrated through the wall.

How sharp is that thing??

"This isn’t a fair fight." Cassian continued to speak as his attacker didn’t give him even the tiniest chance to catch his breath. The sword kept coming from different directions like the hunter had an aim to kill him at the spot, and dying wasn’t one of the things Cassian wished to face presently.

"I never planned on making it fair." Came the attackers retort, and the annoyance in his voice kept growing when Cassian continued to avoid the blade of his sword. It was the first time a mere human can survive this long without being touched by the blade of his sword, he was just as impressed as he was angry.

The human was incredibly skilled!

"How are you keeping up?" Most of the things in the house had been ruined by the blade of the cloaked man. Broken pieces of glass were scattered on the ground, and the curtains had been ripped from his neverending slicing.

He just wanted to decapitate the human for daring to survive this long. Twenty minutes had long gone by and he still had a hard time trapping the human.

Cassian, who was trying his best to avoid the blade, instantly found an opening between the sword and the back of his attacker. Swiftly moving aside, the young lad grabbed hold of his attacker’s right hand when he tried to thrust the weapon at him.

He pulled him forward and turned around to elbow his attacker straight in the back with enough strength he had gathered. His breathing ragged from having to dodge all those thousands of blades that kept swinging in his direction.

It caused the attacker to stagger forward since he didn’t expect to be caught off-guard by a mere human.

"It’s just us." Cassian uttered out loud between heavy breathing, picking up the wooden stick he had seized from Geoffrey earlier. He was currently sweating and had to toss his cloak aside since it became a burden.

"Fight me!"

Turning around out of pure rage, the next thing the cloaked being felt was the stinging pain that came with being smacked in the face with a wooden stick.

It threw him off balance, and that sent him breaking through a door that had the last lantern burning. Due to the impact, the lantern dropped to the ground, breaking in two, and the little fire that still burned inside immediately caught a curtain, setting it ablaze.

Cassian wasn’t concerned about the burning curtains and stepped into the room where the cloaked being had fallen into.

Without giving his attacker time to recover from the unexpected hit, he smacked him once more with the wooden stick, and he continued so much till his attacker dropped to the ground, his cloak slipping right off his face.

Cassian was about to hit him once more when he suddenly paused mid-air due to the face of his attacker.

"The fuck!!" Cassian’s eyes mortified when he stared straight into the crimson eyes of his attacker. It was obvious his top advances had messed with his temper, and the man growled angrily, showing off his sharp fangs that looked no different from wolves.

"Bloody hell..." Cassian took a step back when he noticed the wounds he had inflicted on the attacker were beginning to heal before his very own eyes.

What the hell just happened??!! Geoffrey was right then, he isn’t human.

"Seize him!"

Due to how shocked he had become from the sight before him, he failed to notice two other cloaked beings step into the room and immediately held him back. He had suspected right in this part.

The hunter wasn’t just one, but he had other accomplices too.

"You’re not....human??" His conclusion sounded like a question that he found difficult to accept. The one he had knocked down earlier got to his feet, his crimson eyes blazing with fury that a mere human had subjected him to nothing.

Not bothering to put his cloak back on, he advanced towards Cassian and grabbed him right by the neck. His strength was on a totally different level and it blocked Cassian’s throat, leaving him with the inability to breathe properly.

"You incompetent mortal!!" His nails grew like that of an eagle’s claw, and he was about to create a hole and rip out Cassian’s heart when a more domineering deep voice made him halt.

"Hold on."

Turning around to look at the despicable being who had dared to interrupt him, he paused in his attempt to lash at that person after seeing it was a vampire with a much higher rank than his.

He let go off Cassian’s neck before he could squeeze the living daylights out of him.

"What are you doing?" The voice of that strange person in a midnight black cloak was eerily calm, but it held a strictness to it that made the remaining two vampires who were holding Cassian, tremble slightly at his presence.

"He took off my cloak." The vampire pointed an accusing finger at the human who had made him break one of the rules that involved him never taking off his cloak.

"How is the human to blame?" The strange man turned his attention to the angry vampire. His tone sounded mocking as he took a closer step towards the vamp whose blood was currently boiling

"You’ve never really deserved to wear the cloak." With a speed that moved like the flash of lightning, the strange man wearing a midnight black cloak had grabbed the other vampire by the neck with one hand, raising him from the ground and choking the life out of him.

"M_Master!" The vampire tried to free himself from his master’s grip, but his strength was above his level.

"Disappointing." He spat and without knowing how it even happened, the strange man had slit his head right off his body, to Cassian’s dumbfounded gaze.

The vampire that once wanted to kill him was now the dead one.

"What am I going to do with piles of rubbish?" Scrunching his nose in disgust, he threw the body into the flames, and only then did it occur to Cassian that the house was on fire.

Smokes filled the area, and it felt suffocating the more he stayed here. It was difficult to breathe, and his breathing was already ragged as it is.

Turning to look at the human who glared his way, the man in a black cloak lifted his lips into a devious smile.

"You’ll thank me for this." And he drove his clawed fingers straight into Cassian’s abdomen. The pain that came with it led to Cassian’s eyes widening slightly, but that was all it took to drain the little energy he could muster, and he instantly blacked out.
