Chapter 258: Battle On The Hill (2)

Madeline was prone to take a step back, including Inna and Osvaldo who wisely retreated back as well for safety reasons. The sky above made the weather appear gloomy and ominous, and that malicious smile painting Abbot’s lips sent shivers after shivers down Madeline’s spine. There was a gap drawn between them, and Abbot’s soldiers roared fiercely in anger till he raised a finger, silencing his minions.

The silence that came afterwards was so stealth, one could hear a pin drop. Madeline could hardly believe the person standing in front of her, and she shook her head in stupefaction. Abbot’s face, which looked human not too long ago, was threading with black veins, and they spread like tree branches against his skin, reaching his black eyes that sunk her in like an inescapable abyss.

"Are every Fae so foolish?" Abbot’s lips twitched in slight displeasure as he directed his question at Madeline, but when she remained annoyingly quiet, he tilted his head to the side.

"Maddie dear." He smiled wickedly, exposing his extremely sharp fangs to her gaze. They were the longest fangs Madeline had ever seen, so much so that when he closed his mouth, the upper fangs rested on his bottom lip. "You want to get to the hill? Don’t you? Someone with a fixed goal doesn’t stand and stare like a puppet waiting to be told what to do. Your foolish Mother once made the same mistake, and I see this irreversible foolishness is quite hereditary."

"What did you do to Cassian?" Madeline demanded, her fist balling tightly at her sides. She needed him to spare her all the nonsense he was presently spitting out. She has had enough of it.

To think Abbot would readily commit himself to something disgusting was enough to stimulate her anger, and now he’s here, but her husband isn’t. No matter how scared she felt at the moment, nothing concerned her more than the safety of the man who meant everything to her.

"Oh, you mean Cassian?" Abbot chuckled darkly as he remembered the young lad, further instilling fear in the heart of Madeline, but that was until he said. "He’ll join us soon, and I have no means to get rid of him, no matter how he sees it, he’s still one of my puppets." Abbot shot her an accusatory glare, "you’re the one who brainwashed him, you made me the enemy in front of his eyes, but I... will be the one to bring him back to his senses. Afterall, he was saved by my kind, he belongs to me."

"My brother is not your property." Inna, who was equally enraged by the ugly thing that spoke in replacement of Abbot, dared to point her gun at him. "What do you even want from us? First you came into our land, abducted innocent lives and turned them into those freaks standing behind you." She generalized, simply referring to his group of armies that stood behind him.

"We have enough reasons to get rid of you, meanwhile, you have none!"

"Who says I have none?" Abbot didn’t hide his amusement, listening to her speak without any slight hesitation in her voice. "The land you stand on was mine before these humans and other meaningless creatures took over. I FOUND IT FIRST!" He yelled out the last part, startling all three of them.

"It was mine, but when I started having unwanted visitors, they didn’t wait a second before vanishing me from the Earth’s surface and sending me to the underworld. Your Mother, she started all this mess! Won’t you call that injustice???"

"I call it justice served! You were hurting people!" Osvaldo said this time around, "you were hurting innocent lives and toying with people’s emotions. Same thing happened with the people of Carmarthen, you separated families! But you hold no remorse for your actions, so you must leave and return to where you truly belong.

"And where’s that?"

"Haven’t you been there before?" Madeline asked, taking a deep breath and gathering her courage. For a long time, she wanted to meet the one that was responsible for her parents death, her yearly days of endless trauma and nightmare. The one who killed Roland and messed up Cassian’s family. Now that she had met him, what was the use of hiding??

"Look around you, breathe in the air, cause this will be the last time you see the human world again! You’re not deserving of it!" She said with spite, and that one statement made the humor in Abbot’s expression drop, whilst his gaze turned deadly as no one but her Mother made the same statement to him years ago.

"I. Will. End. You." Flicking his wrist, his minions who were starting to get agitated raced towards the three who dared to speak back against their master. The killing intent in their eyes could not be mistaken.

Madeline’s eyes’ flared, and she took a deep breath before closing her eyes. She quickly thought of anything, anything that could be of great weapon to her.

"Uhmmm.... A stick?"

"A stick??" Osvaldo and Inna exclaimed at the same time, finding her choice completely unexpected. Closing her fist, a white stick with two neatly carved, but extremely mouths materialized in her grip. It glowed in a white light, and the same faint light glinted from the scar in her chest. Madeline only followed her instincts, but she was more surprised that it worked.

Did her Mother have a thing for sticks too?? That didn’t matter presently. Inna, who was awed by the sight, wasn’t giving the time to speculate her opinion on Madeline’s upgraded power when a giant apparition rushed forward, but she instantly took it down with a quick shot from her gun.

Madeline tore the hem of her dress, tying it around the bottom of her stick. She noticed Abbot’s gaze lingering on her every move before hearing him say. "I’ve always loved women in corsets."

"Enjoy it while it lasts."

With his eyes twitching, a speed Madeline barely sensed was what she witnessed after blinking her eyes. Abbot was no longer anywhere in sight, but what she felt next was a quick breeze behind her, followed by someone who was being smashed hard to the ground.

It all happened so fast that the next minute, they were enveloped by dust. When it cleared away, her eyes widened when she saw Cassian holding Abbot down to the ground, and the look in his eyes fumed with unhidden rage.

"No one touches my Maddie." Cassian’s glinting red eyes flared as he looked down at Abbot who he had slammed to the ground with inhuman strength.
