Chapter 256: Intentions And Revelations

When he felt himself go through a wall, the impact had come as a startle to him, but strangely, he didn’t feel the harsh pain that would be derived from being driven into a wall. Was this part of his Vampiric powers? No wonder Elijah recovers quickly when he’s thrown into the wall, thought Cassian, despite his life-threatening situation.

He had been unprepared for the attack, and that gave Abbot the bigger chance as he sat on top of Cassian, his grip on Cassian’s neck tightened like he wanted to squeeze the living air out of him. Those horrific black eyes gazing intently at Cassian’s red orbs carried deadly intimidation, and no one flinched or averted their gaze. The look in their eyes carried a silent battle, as if deciding they weren’t each other’s slave.

"Silly human! Without me! You wouldn’t be alive to challenge me!" The voice that spoke in replacement of Abbot’s voice was undeniably demonic. It sounded nothing like Cassian had ever heard before, and with each struggle to release himself from its clutches, the Ekiminus would tighten his grip.

"You...." The Ekiminus grip loosened a bit, its eyes widening slightly like it just realized something. "I can’t kill you yet." It shook his head, "I’ll just take your body instead!" A malicious grin was about to paint the face of Abbot when they heard a gunshot behind them, but due to Abbot’s fast reflexes, he was able to evade the bullet that was shot in his direction.

Another gunshot was heard as Orson followed Abbot with each perfect aim, but unfortunately, his speed was faster than that of a bullet, making it easy for him to evade all five shots.

Cassian, who was given a moment to catch his breath, looked up from his blurry vision to see Orson approaching where he laid. The young man still had his gaze fixed on Abbot, his gun pointing directly at him as he made his way cautiously towards Cassian.

"Hey, you alright?" He asked Cassian, but never once did he avert his gaze from what no longer seemed to be Abbot. It felt like if he dared to take his eyes away from the thing that watched them carefully, his and Cassian’s life would be endangered.

When Cassian sat up, the look in Abbot’s eyes turned normal as he returned to his human self, but Cassian’s glaring gaze was still fixed on Abbot who laughed maniacally. The sound of his outrageous laugh echoed in the destroyed room, and Orson quickly helped his friend up to his feet. He had heard something crash from the living room, and it was just his instincts that told him to come check what caused the sound.

"Did you like my surprise?" Asked Abbot who had stopped laughing, and a sneer curved his lips. "I didn’t mean to show myself today, but since your new friend already caught up to me, I thought, why not?" The silence that followed after his question was deafening. He had warned them about the consequences if they kept him tied up, but no one listened to his warning.

"Since when?" Cassian asked, the hostility in his red orbs remained undeterred. All this time, they had been living with the creature that they spent months searching for, and Cassian couldn’t figure out how he missed it. It was difficult to think, and Cassian wasn’t given the chance to react properly to the situation.

"Since when?" Abbot tsked at the question. "It all started before the death of Uncle William’s." He revealed to Cassian, "since my biggest secret is out, I see no reason why I have to hide the terrible things I’ve done so far. I feel proud of myself for being extra careful all these years, and still, no one noticed a thing." He chuckled at Cas’s stupidity before straightening up.

"I killed uncle William." Abbot clicked his tongue and shook his head. "That’s too Heartless for me, I didn’t kill him, my new friend killed him." He grinned, "thanks to uncle William who marked your skin, I wouldn’t have known such satisfying powers existed. Cause the creature never came for me, but you." He pointed a finger at Cassian.

"Its main intention was to use you, but with Uncle William’s getting in the way of everything, it was only fair to get rid of him. Don’t you think so?"

"You know what I think? I’m pretty sure your ass must be jealous of all the daily shit coming out of your mouth." Orson, who felt aggrieved by all the nonsense Abbot was saying, just had to let it out. It was clear Abbot held no remorse for his actions whilst he embraced it, and it was utterly disgusting.

"Why did it possess you instead?" Cassian, who still needed more answers, tried to sway Abbot’s mind for a while.

"Isn’t it obvious, Madeline." Abbot uttered her name with evil intent laced in his tone. "All this is happening because of her. If she just died that night, no one would have been harmed, you wouldn’t be what you are today, and all those innocent people won’t have gone poof! Every single night."

"She was within your reach, you bastard." Cassian tried to mock the man. "You missed your chances."

"Oh, but I still have one more. Do not take my patience for play. I was only enjoying the fun! Watching you work so hard till you knew I existed. No one has come that far before. You know I was trying to avoid the introduction, and you know me now."

"Can I just shoot a bullet through its dirty mouth?" Orson, who was getting rather impatient was eager to pull the trigger and end this God forsaken being, but he couldn’t do it just yet since Cassian signaled him not to.

"I told you one of you will have to die." Abbot, whose skin was starting to thread with black veins, uttered ominously till his eyes turned black. He grinned, and his fangs were bare for them to see. "Afterall, I have to avenge my brother’s death."

"Orson, leave this place." Cassian ordered his friend who simply shook his head. His gun still pointed at Abbot. "No, we’re gonna get rid of whatever that is today. It’s part of my job to bring it down, remember? We’re in this together!"

"Sweet." Abbot stretched his neck till he heard cracking sounds. "I’ll kill both of you then."

Cassian’s nails elongated, and he whispered. "Cover me."

"Got it." Orson was the first to move forward as he shot another perfect bullet straight at Abbot, but then again, the inhumane speed had cut him off guard. Looking at both sides to spot where Abbot had raced off to, the sight of Cassian racing off with the same speed made him take a step back, and what he saw next was Abbot being punched squarely in the face.
