Chapter 230: Family Introduction
"Jeremy?!" Her eyes snapped at the figure who had the same resemblance to Jeremy, her words barely leaving her mouth in a whisper.
But how can it be? Jeremy is dead, isn’t he?? But if Jeremy’s dead, who is that.... Who is that person staring at her??
Taking another cautious step back, Madeline subtly missed her footing and almost stumbled back, but a pair of protective arms immediately wrapped her waist, stopping her from coming in contact with the ground.
"Easy there." She heard Cassian speak softly as he helped her regain her balance, but her gaze never looked in his direction as they were still fixed on the window, but due to her backward movements, Jeremy’s face no longer came into view.
"Is she alright?" Osvaldo asked after taking note of her fixed gaze and the incredulity in her demeanor. "She has the expression of someone who has seen a ghost." He tilted his head inquisitively at her.
As though Osvaldo’s words had snapped her out of her bemusement, she turned to look at Cassian whose concerned Amber-brown eyes were on her, and with a trembling hand, she pointed towards the window.
"I saw him." Was all she could say to Cassian, still pointing at the opened window, and his eyes followed it. "I saw him right there, he was standing there, staring at me, I... I saw him there... he was.."
"Who did you see?"
"I saw him, I... I saw Jeremy." The last word left her mouth in a gasp, and then she covered her own mouth in disbelief, unable to believe it herself.
That smile, the reddish eyes, but the face, it had the face and figure of Jeremy.
"Hold on." Cassian moved towards the window, peering out himself as what his wife said made practically no sense to him, and as expected, there was no one there except two guards dressed in armor who were on duty patrol.
Monica went to stand beside Madeline, her hold on Madeline’s shoulder was enough to calm the shocked woman, but her gaze was still fixed on Cassian who kept staring out, wondering if he saw it too.
She could basically hear her own heart racing.
"There’s nothing here." He finally said, turning to look at Madeline who was now baffled.
"What?"
"There’s no one there."
"That’s not possible." Refusing to believe Cassian, Madeline hurried to his side, peering out as well, but to her bewilderment, he was right, there was no one there.
"He’s gone." She let out a breath, unable to understand how the figure just vanished, but she knew what she saw. It was still vivid in her mind, she saw Jeremy!!
"Cas, you have to believe me, I’m not making things up, I promise I saw him standing there, he was smiling at me and his eyes were tainted red, I saw...."
"I believe you." He gently cupped her cheeks, staring into her eyes that begged him to believe her.
"How can you believe what you haven’t seen?" Osvaldo asked, and Cassian responded.
"If my wife said she saw it, then she probably did. I don’t have to see it to believe it." While he gave Osvaldo his answer, his gaze remained fixed on Madeline whose eyes turned appreciative, and the next minute, the door opened, revealing a family of three who were dressed in regal outfits.
"Monica!" An older woman with gray hair that was neatly pinned into an updo hurried to Monica’s side, giving her a tight hug, the worried look on her face slowly dissipating. "My dear, how are you? You really scared me when we heard you’ve locked yourself in your room."
"Monica." A young lady who seemed to be about Madeline’s age, walked up to her sister, placing a hand on her shoulder with a faint smile. "How are you feeling now?"
"How did.... Everyone got to know about this?" Monica asked her family who had rushed down here to see her. "You shouldn’t have come here."
"We are your parents, Monica." Her Father, who had a stern feature with his midnight hair permed to the back, stepped forward. "How can we not be worried after receiving information concerning your health?"
"I am fine." She stubbornly pulled away from her Aunt’s embrace, "as you can see, I am fit as a fiddle."
"Monica.." Osvaldo’s reprimanding tone reached her ear, and Monica was forced to keep her mouth shut, constantly biting the skin in her cheek.
"Aunt, Uncle, Maya." Osvaldo offered them a welcoming smile. "You didn’t leave a message that you were coming over, I would have made arrangements to welcome you over."
"Thank you, Osvaldo." Monica’s Father showed appreciation to Osvaldo, but his witted gaze was solely on his stubborn daughter.
"We also never expected to show up here, but the impromptu message we received rendered us with no other choice."
"Monica." Maya, who had equally Midnight black hair like Madeline with the same stormy gray eyes like her junior sister, moved forward to hold her hand.
"Are you still upset with us?" She asked, but Monica didn’t bother giving a response as she freed her hand from Maya’s, and she stood beside Madeline and Cassian, holding their hands and leaving her startled.
"You don’t have to worry about me any longer. Osvaldo, Madeline, and Cassian are here to keep me company, they are the only ones who truly care about me."
"Monica!" Her Father’s eyebrow frowned at her, but Monica wasn’t shaken by his gaze.
"Father, sister, Aunt, meet Madeline." She introduced, "the daughter of your late sister, Father, and my niece."
She looked at Madeline, "Maddie, meet my Father, he’s one of Whitebridge council members, and this is my sister, Maya, famous, also a Fae but her powers are connected with water. This is my Aunt, she equally holds an important position in Whitebridge."
"Hmmn?" Madeline could only blink after listening to Monica make the quick introduction, but there was no excitement in her tone while she introduced every member of her Family.
"Unbelievable, she has a daughter?" Her Father, who looked shock-stricken as he gazed at Madeline, wouldn’t have believed it, but then the resemblance was just too obvious for him to ignore.
"Meet the handsome Lord Cassian, her husband." Monica made the final introduction, and the silence that encompassed the room turned oppressive, and a frown settled on her Father’s face.
