Chapter 219: On The Candlelight Table (1)

Cassian took Madeline’s hand and led her through the dimly-lit hallway without saying anything. She had no idea where he was taking her, but the anticipation of the surprise he wanted to show her only made her heart flutter even more.

And she tried to come up with all sorts of guesses.

Recalling his confession in the living room nearly forced a squeak of excitement out of her, but she reminded herself to stay composed and figure out instead what he wanted to show her. If she knew telling him to leave would force him to confess his feelings, she would have used this method before coming to Whitebrige city’s capital.

On the way, Madeline made several attempts to ask him where he was taking her to, but the young lad remained frustratingly quiet and just kept walking until they made it to the backdoor of the house.

Releasing her hand, Cassian walked towards the double door and opened the backdoor that revealed their backyard, and Madeline involuntarily gasped at the sight.

The view outside was incredibly breathtaking.

The stars were shining brightly in the sky, and the garden was illuminated by dozens of candles that lined the stoned pathway, leading to a table in the center. For a few seconds, Madeline forgot to blink.

"Come." Holding her hand once again, he led the dazed Madeline in.

The table at the center was adorned with a white tablecloth, and a dozen more candles flickered on the surface. Cassian walked Madeline towards the table, pulling out a chair and gesturing from the awed woman to take her sit.

Madeline quietly sat down, her eyes glued to the sight in front of her. Cassian stood opposite her, and with a mischievous grin, he bowed his head slightly. "And what will the love of my life have for dinner?"

He asked, and Madeline’s eyes widened when her eyes shifted to the delicacies on the table.

"You made this?!"

"Why does it sound like you doubt me?" He inquired, and Madeline was stunned.

"I never knew one of your many talents involved cooking." The surprise was evident in her tone.

"I love to surprise my loved ones this way."

Madeline chuckled lightly before letting her gaze sweep the beautiful surroundings. "You did all this?"

"My original plan was to confess here tonight, but my wife beat me to it." He smiled. "I want us to forget everything for tonight, let’s be selfish for tonight and think about us, no one else, and nothing else. Just us."

Madeline could feel her heart go light, and Cassian asked. "So, what would you like to eat?"

"Are you up on the menu?" She asked meekly, almost playfully, and Cassian, who was amused by his wife’s audacity, cocked his head slightly.

"That’s dessert." He answered, to Madeline’s surprise, "but first, I’ll need to feed you to make sure you can keep up." There was a mysterious glint in his eyes when he said these words, and Madeline, who had only said it as a joke, realized how her act of play had landed her into making an inescapable promise with him.

That night, they had their lovely dinner with conversations in between, and Madeline was tempted to ask. "Tell me, when did you realize you were in love with me?"

"Curious?" He teased, and Madeline pushed on. "Tell me already."

"Hmm" Cassian pretended to think about it, "I realized I was in love with you each time you hit me with a stick.’

"Huh?"

"Kidding." Cassian quickly revealed he was joking, "I fell for you when you smiled, I fell for you when you learned to stand up for yourself, I fell for you when you were asleep and I had to watch over you. Most times, you talk too much during the daytime, so during the night when you’re asleep, I get a chance to admire your face."

His eyes softened, "you’re beautiful, Maddie."

"You fell for my beauty?"

"I hundred percent fell for your looks." He admitted, and Madeline could feel her cheeks burn at more of his confession.

As the nights wore on, the candles flickered and danced, casting a warm glow on the couple. Madeline felt indescribably content, surrounded by the beauty of the night and the sound of Cas’s voice. To her notice, he looked more handsome tonight, rather, he looked so good to eat that she found it hard not to stare at him.

Everything felt like a dream, but Madeline didn’t want to pinch herself to confirm it. Be it a dream or not, she wanted to stay trapped in it, forever.

When Madeline opened one of the closed untouched plates by her side, a single white rose rested on it with a small note. When she turned it over, the word ’I LOVE YOU, MADELINE’ was boldly written on it with a heart design at the top of her name, making her smile broaden as she picked it up.

"You also did this?" She picked the white rose from the plate, "where did this come from?" Surprised, she asked Cassian who shrugged.

"I put my speed to good use. Took me a while before I could get it."

"It’s white!" She smiled, "It feels good to get something unique."

"White represents light." He said, "and you’re the light in my life. To show my gratitude, I picked the one that suited what you mean to me the most."

Touched by his loving words, Madeline stretched out her hand for him to hold, and he wasted no time holding it. Just staring at each other in silence, Cassian suddenly got to his feet and walked over to where Madeline sat.

"Stand." He said, helping her rise to her feet, and before she knew it, he lifted her onto the table, surprising her, her eyes dilated, and she instinctively pushed herself back a bit to settle on it, the plates shifted to the side.

They were both lost in their own world, despite the candles going out one by one as the night wore on. He pushed himself in between her legs, his hands resting on both her thighs as he pulled her close to him.

With her arms linked around his neck due to his sudden pull, Cassian leaned forward, lowering his head as he did so, and with their eyes closed, he claimed her lips in his.

The touch of his cool soft lips on hers was nerve-racking, it made her shudder at what was yet to come.

When he pulled back, his eyes pooled with awakened desires as he kissed her again for the second time that night, and ever so slightly, his hand slid behind her neck, before moving into the soft length of her hair as he grabbed it.

"Are we.... really doing it out here?" She asked when she pulled back from the kiss, already panting softly in anticipation, and the young lad’s gaze seductively swept over her before he answered.

"Doesn’t matter where we do it, but for starters, I want to have you screaming my name on this table." And he captured her lips with more urgency. He kissed her with a soft, desperate viciousness that Madeline felt from her head to her toes

Tantalizingly, he slid the sleeve of her dress down her arm.
