Chapter 191: His Love Interest
Chapter 191: His Love Interest
Isabella, who was having a warm time conversing with the women of her class as they shared each other’s empathy, stopped talking when Juliana presented herself before them, and before Isabella knew it, her mother-in-law had gripped her wrist firmly, but her smile and curt expression remained intact as she exchanged greetings with the younger women.
"I need to have a word with my daughter-in-law if you don’t mind." Juliana’s fake smile was one that could easily be interpreted, and without waiting for their response, she dragged Isabella away from their conversation committee.
"Mother, what are you--" Isabella’s voice trailed off when she was brought to the empty corner at the backside of the Courtyard, and Juliana finally freed her wrist after scrutinizing the area and confirming they were alone.
"Was it necessary to drag me out in such a manner? Everyone was looking." Isabella muttered her complaint before raising her head up to meet Juliana’s serious gaze. When her mother-in-law carried a no smiling face with an evident glare, Isabella knew she was in some kind of trouble.
"Where is Abbot?" Juliana asked Isabella who blinked like she had no idea who her mother-in-law was referring to.
"What?"
"Don’t lie to me, I haven’t seen Abbot for days now and I know there’s something wrong. I’m well aware of how Abbot leaves the house without telling anyone, but this has been the longest duration. You’re his wife, so you should know his movements."
"You dragged me out to ask this?"
"Answer the question."
Isabella drew back in a baffled startlement at Juliana’s stern tone. "He didn’t tell me exactly where he was going, but he said he’d be away for a while."
"You don’t know where he is?"
"Mother, you speak like you don’t know your own son." Isabella rolled her eyes, unable to deny the fact that she found peace and comfort in his absence.
"That boy." Juliana had her own worries as she looked away from Isabella.
Her own son had been more of a fright to her than Cassian. Worst, he knew about the treacherous things she had done in the past, and if he had that kind of information to himself, Juliana knew her secret wasn’t safe anymore, and now, only the heavens know where her son had vanished without informing anyone.
Thankfully, Richard had been too occupied to take notice of Abbot’s absence, else...
"Find out where your husband has gone to, as his wife you should know these things. If something bad happens, how possible do you think it’d be to locate him? Everyone is just useless, no one seems to be doing anything right these days!"
With a disgruntled scowl, Juliana turned and left Isabella to herself, and the woman in turn could feel her own anger rising from the pit of her stomach. She’s no one’s slave, because she’s married to Abbot doesn’t mean she’ll be a servant to him or his mother’s demand.
If everyone was going to keep pestering her like this, Isabella found it more suitable to visit her father’s place instead of staying here and dealing with all this mannerless nonsense from her mother-in-law.
"I’ll die quicker if I stay in that house for another second." She uttered through gritted teeths, but now that her mother-in-law made mention of it, this has been the longest time Abbot stayed away from home.
"What is he up to this time?" Isabella sighed, not having a good feeling about it as she folded her arms.
Making it back to Cas’s property when the sun was starting to descend down the horizon, Inna and Orson stepped into the house to find Elian sitting on the chaise lounge close to the wide glass window. His serene gaze shifted from the window to the two ’assumed couples’ or so he thought.
"You’re here." Uttered Orson as he took off his waistcoat, not sure why he was surprised to see him here, but Elian, as always, gave him no response as he shifted his attention back to the window, staring out.
"What did I say?" Orson whispered to Inna, "a lone wolf."
"Rephrase that."
"A lone Vampire."
Inna sighed softly, and just at the right moment, Catherine stepped out of the kitchen with a glass of juice on a saucer, and she walked past Inna and her brother, hurrying to Elian’s side and handing him the glass of juice with a cheerful grin.
"Here, I made sure to prepare it just the way you said you’d like it!"
Elian, who was staring out the window, finally turned his head to look at Catherine who handed him the glass of juice she took her time to make for him.
A slow smile reached his lips, and he received it with gratitude without uttering a word, and to Elian’s quick startlement, Catherine sat beside him with her blue eyes glittering with what he wished wasn’t a sense of attraction.
"Have a taste, and tell me what you think."
"What the hell is going on? What sort of sorcery is this??" Orson, who looked lost, tried to understand the sudden relationship that was brewing right in front of his eyes, and Catherine looked at her brother who was waiting for some explanation.
"I made him juice, he looked tired when he returned so I insisted on..."
"Did you only hurt your gut? The Catherine I know would never do this, for anyone! Not even me!" He specifically pointed himself out, his eyes narrowing suspiciously at Catherine who guiltily scratched the back of her neck before clearing her throat.
"What do you mean? That was the old Catherine, I’ve changed for the better! Do you want one? I can get you some if you need one."
"Hey," Elian called for her attention in an attractive tone after taking a sip from the juice she made for him. "I think somethings wrong with my juice, give it a taste and tell me if you feel it."
"But... didn’t you just drink from..." Catherine tried to hint it to him, surprised he was asking her to drink from his glass, but the young man shrugged, his fascinating green eyes making Catherine blush unknowingly.
"I don’t believe in the saying that it’s an indirect kiss, and I’m offering it to you so you can...."
"How sweet, why not offer it to her in the bedroom behind closed doors, cause this love playing is making me sick." Commented Inna whose annoyance smoothly rolled out of her tongue, and with her chin tilted up gracefully, she went up the stairs.
"What?" Catherine gasped as she watched Inna go up the stairs, and Elian’s gaze followed the slender figure. There was a strange darkening in his eyes, one that Orson didn’t fail to catch when he tried to confirm what exactly was really going on.
Was it just him, or does Elian seem to have developed a love interest in Inna??
