Chapter 189: Conflict In The Dungeon
King Alaric and a few guards in similar uniform marched down the cold, damp corridors of the dungeon, with Klaus and Richard trailing behind them. They carried within them an air of austerity, but it was more noticeable in Klaus’s expression.
He insisted on taking a look at what the guard meant by the grills being stretched, unable to fathom the picture in his mind.
To say he was furious would be an understatement. The prison cells of the dungeon were the strongest, so how did he escape?? The thought alone made Klaus boil, and just when he assumed he’d receive a special treat by watching Cassian die, he receives an outrageous news.
As they made it to Cas’s cell, Klaus could feel his heart pounding rapidly against his chest. But when he saw the state the private cell in the dungeon was in, Klaus’s anger turned into one of bewilderment, including the guards and Richard as they stopped in their tracks.
Just like the guard had mentioned, the grills of the cell had been stretched to an impossible degree, with gaping holes in between that signified the young lad’s easy breakout. The stone walls were cracked, as though a great force had been exerted upon them.
Except for Alaric, the rest stared in disbelief. "How did he do this?"
Klaus muttered, taking a step closer and pressing his hand against the broken grills.
The guard who had reported the news, bowed his head. "We don’t know, but he was here when we checked last night. We knocked him out so he wouldn’t have the chance of escaping, but...." The guard, unable to explain the scenario that happened after, kept quiet.
Alaric gestured for them to stay back as he entered the cell, peering around at the destruction, and his lips lifted into a scowl, one that portrayed his disbelief and annoyance, but it wasn’t because of Cassian’s escape.
"This... This is impossible." Klaus muttered, shaking his head. "No human could ever do this."
Using the opportunity bestowed upon him, he moved closer to Alaric in the hopes of brainwashing him. "Do you believe me now when I say he’s dangerous? Look at the destruction of this place, he wrecked the strongest cell in the palace dungeon, and with that type of strength, I don’t think we should waste any more time in sending the search party to begin scouting the area for him. He’s not allowed to roam free!"
"Distance." Alaric’s low tone signaled his unease, throwing Klaus off guard, and Klaus, who got the message on time, wisely stepped back to give the King some space, but no doubt, that statement hurt his pride.
"Are you the king? Or am I the King?" Asked Alaric who finally glanced at Klaus, feeling somewhat challenged, and the young man, sensing Alaric’s indignation, realized his words may have targeted Alaric’s negative attention on him instead of Cassian.
"Your Majesty I--"
"I’m not dumb, neither are you my advisor, I don’t need you to give me tips on what decision I should make concerning this matter.’’ Alaric strictly warned. "Remember, your actions have not been forgiven, the least you can do to be of valuable help is to remain silent while I think."
"Forgive my manners." Klaus quickly apologized, and to his relief, Richard stepped in, also taking the damaged cell into study.
"Cassian...did this?" Richard’s suspicions grew, and he seemed to have gotten his answer judging from the look on everyone’s faces.
"As I’ve said before." Alaric looked at the cell one more time before fixing his gaze on the two of them. "I’ve sent a search party, if Cassian is found or not depends on them, but if not found, we keep searching, cause it seems to me that Cassian isn’t the only threat out there Klaus, so keep your eyes open, and your minds active. Stop giving Cassian too much attention, and let me handle it."
After saying what he had in mind, Alaric stepped out of the cell with his guards trailing behind him. That left Klaus and Richard behind as they wanted to take a look at the cell one more time.
"That Bastard." Klaus cursed, knowing he should have expected the sleeping dog to eventually rise again.
He turned around to leave, and Richard, who was lost in words regarding what was happening, followed behind. After exiting the dungeon, Elian stepped out from the corner where he had been hiding, dragging two dead bodies of the guards incharge and thinking of a way to dispose of them without letting anyone see it.
That’s when he heard a faint chuckle from the shadows of the cell.
"Cleaning off your brother’s work I see." Elijah’s voice rang out in the dungeon, and Elian, who paused upon hearing his brothers voice, immediately spun around to see Elijah approaching him with an iron rod in his hand, the tip of the rod had been stained with blood, enough for Elian to make out what his evil twin brother had been up to.
His eyes narrowed nonchalantly, and Elian could feel his chest grow tight, was it out of the anger suddenly building inside of him, or something else?
"Cas will be implicated if these bodies are found, I’m helping him, not you."
"And what makes you think I’ll let you leave with a face like that?" Elijah pointed his rod at Elian’s apathetic face, conveying a message Elian understood perfectly, they both clearly hated the idea of looking identical.
"So much has happened," Elian sighed, lifting both dead bodies on his shoulders. "If you want to face me, then pick a date and time when we’ll be the least disturbed, but let’s not do it here. I won’t fight you if your wish is to create a scene and fool me like you did with Cassian. I’m too familiar with your tricks to blindly fall for them for the second time."
His gaze flickered to the two dead bodies on his shoulder. "And stop killing people like ants, it shows your desperation."
"Their lives were already in my hands."
"Not yours, but Alaric’s." He corrected, "but then I noticed something, why do you keep coming to the palace? We don’t belong here anymore." He clearly stated to Elijah whose eyes arrogantly narrowed at him.
"I have no business with the royal family. I don’t need to explain to you my thoughts. Just like them, I no longer have anything to do with you. Tomorrow at midnight, meet me at the old cathedral so I can shut you up for good, you’re becoming irritating each day."
Elijah hissed in contempt before turning around and walking into the darkness ahead, leaving Elian behind.
