Chapter 180: A Visit From Elijah (2)

"How did you get in here?" Asked Cassian after his eyes retracted back to the young vampire, but then he realized how inconsequential his question was since it was Elijah he was speaking to. Was there a place the lone vampire couldn’t break into?

Cassian wished he was gifted with that kind of ability to break in and out of anywhere he could think of.

Saying nothing to him, Elijah sat on the floor with both his legs crossed. His green eyes swept through the areas of the cell before resting on the young lad who was trapped inside the cell like a tamed wild beast. Elijah’s expression was relatively calm, and Cassian sensed no threat’s from his presence, the only issue he had with him presently was why he had to kill those bodyguards and most importantly, drag their lifeless body here.

He was thirsty enough as it is.

"What are you doing here?" Switching to his no-nonsense attitude, he cocked his head to the side while his impenetrable gaze remained locked on the vampire who silently watched him. "If you’re here to kill me then I must let you know that you picked the best time to show up. As you can see, I lack strength, so finish up and take your leave. At least I’ll be the one to torment some souls in hell, but I warn you, don’t ruin my face."

Cassian meant every word he just said, he had no intention of getting into a fight with Elijah, and watching him lay back on his bed with not even the slightest hesitation only amused Elijah, and he let out a soft laugh before wiping off the bloody stain from his lips, shaking his head as the complexities in his mind grew, and truth be told, he wasn’t here to kill Cassian either.

Yes, he was irritated by this decision.

"That fact that you want it takes away the fun in killing, I like it when my victims shudder and tremble." His gaze shifted to the dead bodyguards he had killed and of course, he couldn’t let their blood go to waste, so he took enough to recharge his strength and improve his abilities.

"I’m not here to kill you." He began, the seriousness of their conversation returning, "I’m here to say, I told you so." A slow smile adorned his red colored lips, "the humans you wish to protect are the reason you’re locked up here. Not only are you locked, but you’re also accused of the abduction of those missing people. Should I feel sorry for you when I already warned you this will happen?"

Cassian’s brows creased in recognition, and his eyes widened slightly, "was this your plan?" He sat up on the bed when it finally made sense, "the attack on my wife, you knew what was going to happen, did you do this because you knew I’d save her, you planned on exposing me this fucking time?"

"I wanted you to see how the people you protect aren’t worth it." Elijah corrected, "they praise you for your title and that’s the end of it. Just one mistake," he emphasized by raising his index finger, "an unintentional mistake is all it takes for your reputation to go downhill, and when they don’t see you anymore, you become forgotten, acting like you never existed, and the same color of fate awaits you when you get executed tomorrow."

An oppressive silence filled the cell, and Elijah’s green eyes glinted with enmity, but then, it faded when he looked right into the Amber-brown eyes of Cassian, and he said. "I can get you out of here, but in return I need you to join me. You seem to forget that I didn’t turn you into the likes of me for a theater play, there’s something about you, and with you on my side, we can get revenge on all those people who think we’re nothing but toys that can be discarded when they feel like it."

Cassian blinked, Elijah’s hatred wasn’t bent on him or anyone to say the least. From the way he spoke with such venom in his tongue, Cassian could guess that he must have been used and dumped in the past. Now that he gave it some thought, Elian also had a similar dislike towards humans, but unlike his twin here, Elian had a way of controlling his own repugnance.

"Is that the reason you and Elian...." He averted his gaze for a moment, but since he already dared to bring it up, he continued. "You and agent red, is what you’re saying have something to do with the reason you two are no longer together?"

"Agent.... red?" Elijah tasted the name in his tongue, "he lets you call him that?"

"Actually no, but he has a high level of tolerance." Getting out of bed, Cassian also sat on the floor, facing Elijah who appeared to also have a trouble with that name.

"When he told me you both got turned into vampires the same day, I should have guessed what he was trying to hint at." Cassian continued, taking note of the times when Elian tried to secretly hint his relationship with Elijah to him.

"He knew you like you were an open book, you both share some kind of hostility towards humans, and that leaves me curious, what happened to the both of you? What is your history? Your background? Are you even from Carmarthen? Your families?"

Elijah’s gaze flickered to his left, he had trouble speaking his mind as his eyes observed the corners of the cell, and a light chuckle left his lips, but it was a chuckle that signified the pain he had buried within him, and he met Cassian’s gaze.

"Who are these families you speak of?" He sighed, "I’m sorry but I have no intention of opening closed wounds. I’m a man with a new identity." And then he scowled at the thought, "asking me such foolish questions could only mean you have no interest in working with me even after everything I just said, but it is fine, I’ll be sure to be there as you get beheaded tomorrow morning."

He sneered, "to appreciate each other’s companionship, I’ll be sure to visit your grave with a bouquet of flowers, and you know what else? The space beside your grave shall be reserved for your wife, cause it won’t be too long before she joins you, I mean.... it’s the least I can do, it would be hard to part with a loved one, so why not join them?"

"I have something to say to that." Cassian pressed his lips into a thin line, and Elijah would have assumed the young lad must have been frightened by his threat, if he didn’t smirk so wickedly at the end of it, and his Amber-brown eyes glinted dangerously, wiping the sadistic smirk off Elijah’s lips.

"Never count your chickens before they hatch, who knows, I have a thing for scrambled eggs."

"Huh?" Leaving Elijah to ponder on his statement, Cassian rose to his feet and went to lay back down on the bed.

"I enjoy the enemy’s company, but I need to get some sleep before tomorrow’s execution." He turned on the bed to look at Elijah who hadn’t left yet, "just so you don’t miss me a little too much when I’m gone, you can always join me." He patted the empty space beside him to further taunt the vampire.

"Freak!" The corner of Elijah’s lips lifted.
