Chapter 165: Elian’s Secret (2)
"Interesting, you guessed me out quicker than I expected, how smart." His smile broadened, but Madeline was quick to conceal her shock in order to avoid having her fears detected. Her eyes narrowed into a glaring slit, her feet constantly trying to create a distance between her and the man who kept taking unhurried steps towards her.
Madeline shook her head in disbelief, unable to comprehend the sight in front of her. Elian couldn’t possibly be Elijah right? There’s no way he could have fooled them blindly, right? Cas has made mention of Elijah countless times, but if Elian really was Elijah, Cassian would know about it right? Or could it be that he has never seen Elijah’s face before?
Numerous questions invaded Madeline’s mind. After what he did to Catherine using that terrifying blade of his, the thought that he might kill her made fear and confusion strike her to her core. Her eyes secretly darted from left to right, looking for an escape route, but unfortunately, the only path she could catch a glimpse of was still ahead of her, and so, she continued with her slow-witted movements, keeping her stern gaze locked on Elijah...or Elian?
She couldn’t tell.
"What...What are you?" That question fell from her lips in a shaky gasp, and she noticed his face pull into a long frightening frown.
The smile on his lips faded at her quizzical but firm accusation, "I’m not Elian? You’re right, I’m not, I’m Elijah by name. The person you speak of doesn’t exist." He stopped walking and gladly introduced himself with a slight bow, "I wanted to play this game of ’guess the truth,’ but unfortunately you’re just like your husband, the both of you are interestingly annoying and it pisses me off, but good news, I’m not here for you, I’m here for your husband, and you my dear, are my bait to fishing him out."
"What do you want from him?" Before Madeline could guess what he had in mind, Elijah was suddenly standing in front of her, and his fingers curled against her neck as he pushed Madeline’s back to the wall, eliciting a stunned gasp from her lips as her eyes widened in alarm.
Shock-stricken, Madeline watched as his green eyes switched into a crimson color, and panic seized her brain upon noticing the hatred he bore inside those molten lava eyes of his.
"I like him." He answered with a dangerous smirk, "have you ever liked someone so much that you wish to ruin and crush their hopes? Enough to make them wish they were dead?" His hold around her neck tightened, attempting to choke the life out of her. "I want to make him realize something tonight, and for that to happen, I need you to bring him to me, it’s that simple, unless you wish to die of course, I haven’t forgotten about your little stunt and how you ruined my plans, I’m still coming for you, but as of now, I need you to summon your husband here."
"You..!!"
"Scream all you want." He tilted his head with a sneer, "there are no guards here, each and everyone of them were killed and drained by me. It was a clean murder, that makes it difficult for one to guess. I can change your fate if you answer me and do as I say."
"Clean murder?" That word clicked a puzzle in Madeline’s head, is he responsible for Roland and Jeremy’s death?
"Sir, you must be mistaken. He doesn’t love me." Madeline tries her best to uncurl his fingers from her neck before she loses the ability to breathe permanently. "Our marriage isn’t what you think it is, he won’t come for me, and that makes me of no use to you."
"What are you saying?" He arched a serious brow at her, but then his expression looked startled when that familiar wine scent engulfed his nostril once again. He perceived it the first time he saw her, and it was a scent that felt too familiar to him.
The scent of her sweet blood.
"Your blood." He smirked devilishly, revealing his sharp fangs to Madeline’s gaze. "You have no wish to be useful, but that is something you cannot avoid." He licked his fangs that were itching to get a taste of this unique blood, "I tend to make the useless become useful."
"Let go of me!!" Madeline struggled to free herself, and out of instinct, she kneed Elijah between his legs, throwing him off guard as he winced at the after effect, but it wasn’t enough to make him release his hold on her. Instead, his hold around her neck tightened.
Madeline could feel her eyes turn watery, she couldn’t breathe and her powers were nothing compared to Elijah’s. That light, how can she make it happen again??
"You.."
Dark spots were already beginning to dot her eyes when Elijah suddenly released his hold on her neck, and then Madeline felt something pass between them in a swift motion, followed by the breaking of a glass window as if someone had thrown something hard against it.
Half-stunned and perplexed, she looked at the window to see a twin blade hanging against the broken glass, stuck to the shattered window and hanging loosely. From the damage it caused, whoever threw it had the intention of separating someone’s head from the body.
Finally able to breathe, Madeline’s weak knees made her sink to the cold floor. She instantly gasped for air like a fish on land, hitting her chest countlessly to recover.
Her body trembled, feeling life return to her cold body once again, but when she looked up to see who had saved her, her blood immediately froze in her veins when she met another pair of green eyes glaring straight into the eyes of a completely red one.
"Get away from her." Elian’s voice went cold with fury, but the young vampire he seethed smiled his way, his arms folded as though he had been expecting his presence.
"You intend to welcome me with that tone?" Elijah tsked in disappointment. "You haven’t changed, I’m more surprised to see you’re alive."
Madeline’s gaze darted between the two men, her confusion multiplying as two carbon copies were staring straight at each other.
"How about a welcome treat to announce my arrival, brother." Elijah brought out both his twin blades, preparing himself for a fight, further infuriating Elian who closed his eyes in an attempt to hold onto his boiling rage.
"Brother??" Madeline who had crawled somewhere to hide, felt her whole system freeze upon hearing the word ’brother’
Why would he suddenly refer to Elian as ’brother!?? Are they twins?? Elian and Elijah??
They’re twin brothers??
