Chapter 110: Suspicious Kindness (1)

Taking a walk down the hallway, Madeline crossed her arms above her chest, her expression showcasing she had a lot going through her mind as she pursed her lips together. Thinking about everything Cassian had to say to her, a sigh escaped her lips as though she was getting frustrated with all the complexities happening in her life, and the hardest part of it was asking for a break to get her mind back on track.

"But where have I met him?" Placing a palm to her forehead, Madeline tried to remember the past where she might have run into someone who looked just like him, but unfortunately, it was difficult regaining a part of her memory she had erased.

"I have never been so confused." Madeline felt like slamming her head to the wall, but before she could take it into action, a very pleasing, yet startling voice interrupted her.

"It is not hygienic to stress the brain so early in the morning." Isabella’s voice made her halt as she was at the point of connecting her head to the wall, and she swiftly turned to see Isabella approaching where she stood with a friendly smile that was very unusual to Madeline.

"If you hit your head, you could develop a painful lump, and if anyone else saw this, they’d mistake your actions for someone possessed." Said Isabella as her tone already proved that Madeline’s move had left her stunned.

Clearing off the awkwardness in her throat, Madeline smiled and bowed her head. "I was just.... Uhm morning to you Isabella." She greeted.

"I know my name can be a mouthful, you can choose to call me Isa or Bella, anyone that suits your taste."

"Oh." Madeline blinked at the unexpected kindness. "Thank you, Bella."

"I was heading for breakfast, shall we?"

"Of...of course." Madeline nodded and watched as Isabella walked ahead of her. Madeline’s eyes squinted dubiously at her kindness. After what she did to Abbot at the garden, she never expected Isabella to speak to her with such benevolence.

’Or could it be Abbot never told her?’ thought Madeline.

"Madeline."

"Hmmn?" Snapping her head up to meet Isabella’s gaze, the lady had walked distance from where she stood.

"Aren’t you coming?"

"Yes...I am." Realizing that she was still standing at her spot, Madeline moved to join Isabella, and they walked off to the dining room together.

"A lovely morning to you Lady Madeline, and Lady Isabella." Frederick greeted them with a slight bow when they made it to the dining.

"Morning to you too." Madeline responded with her usual smile.

"Why aren’t the tables set?" Isabella questioned as she took her seat at the dining.

"It will be in a few seconds." Replied Frederick before turning around to quickly get the servants.

"Come have your seat." Isabella gestured for Madeline to sit beside her, and Madeline had no problem with it as she took her seat beside Isabella. She was surprised to see Isabella’s attitude was different from that of Abbot, and she had to admit that she liked it.

"Will the rest not come down for breakfast?" Madeline asked out of pure concern while Isabella shrugged to it. "No one follows the rule if the Duke isn’t here, and well...I can’t go hungry because of them." Came her casual remark as the servants showed up to fill their plates with morning delicacies.

The two lady’s had to agree with each other on that note, and when Madeline looked up the stairs out of instinct, she spotted the young lad standing there, with his Amber-brown gaze fixed on her as though he had been watching her for a while.

He had changed the style of his hair, packing it into a messy bun and softening his mien as some of his hair fell to both sides of his face. When he winked at her, Madeline immediately averted her gaze to the plate on her table, her heart racing at his flirtatious move, and she tried to keep herself from turning bashful.

"I must say, you’re lucky." Isabella elbowed her arm lightly to get her attention. Madeline on the other hand, was a bit lost on what she meant.

"I don’t.... understand."

"I can’t remember the last time Abbot winked at me or stared at me with such a melting gaze." She sighed, resting her chin on both her palms. "Cassian is so sweet to you, I never knew it would be possible for someone like him to fall in love, the way he looks at you is one that I admire."

She smiled mischievously and looked at Madeline. "Tell me, how is he? For a man like Cas, I suppose he’s an expert in bed, isn’t he?" She twerked her brows in front of Madeline who choked on her meal at the mention of ’good in bed.’

"I beg your pardon?" Her cheeks bloomed with a pink hue.

"It’s just us, females, you can tell me." Isabella pushed on with a hush tone, and Madeline, rather than giving a response, stuffed her mouth with the strawberry pancake the maid had served on her plate.

Isabella’s eyes widened slightly at her manner of eating, and she scrunched her face into a look of displeasure as though she was watching a pig eat. She had no idea what Cassian saw in this woman, but then she’s forced to put up with her for Abbot’s sake.

"Madeline dear, you don’t eat like that." Isabella, playing the role of a good friend, kindly advised her without showing her disgust. "You aren’t allowed to fill your mouth like that, it’s an act of indecency, but do not worry, I know you never learned it, so I will be here to guide you, okay?"

Swallowing her meal, Madeline reached for the glass of juice and emptied the cup before setting it down on the table. She looked at Isabella and leaned forward, startling the woman while staring straight into her eyes.

"Why are you nice to me?" She asked, leaving Isabella baffled by her question.

"What?"

"Your husband doesn’t like me, he hates the sight of me and calls me a child from the mud. Will he take it lightly to see his wife sitting beside someone who came from the mud? He would have told you to stay away from someone like me right?"

Isabella grew speechless at her sudden question and she tried not to give herself out. It’s not possible she suspects something already.....is it??
