Chapter 104: A Little Entreaty (1)
Cassian cautiously walked through the empty dimly lit street, his footsteps echoing ominously in the silent night air as he glanced around from time to time, constantly staying alert to make sure no one was following him. Luckily enough, he had his improved senses to help him maintain focus.
The towering buildings loomed over him, casting long, ominous shadows that danced eerily on the ground. For the sake of everyone’s protection, he had made up his mind to come find Elijah, discarding the consequences or whatever danger he might impose on himself, since Elijah has proven to be a dangerous threat to his own life and everything around him.
There’s a reason why they call them creatures of the night, no one hangs around in the darkness like they do, so this was basically the perfect time he had to scout for Elijah, or any of the vampires in sight.
Letting out a puff of air to erase his anxiousness, he glanced at the buildings at both sides, their glowing lanterns illuminating the quiet street.
In the middle of his thoughts, a glimmer of movement caught Cassian’s eye, causing him to stop dead in his tracks. Instinctively, he looked up towards the rooftops, his heart racing in his chest as he spotted a figure that made him gasp softly in surprise.
There, perched high above him on the roof of a looming gothic cathedral, was a figure. Its form was tall and slender. The silhouette was wearing a black hoodie and precisely all black. The moonlight glinted in his direction, illuminating his appearance to the young lad who immediately recognized the black hoodie the second he focused his gaze on it, and he took a step back.
"Elijah?"
Cassian could feel a shiver running down his spine as he realized that he was looking at a vampire - a creature of the night, notorious for its thirst for human blood.
He watched in silent horror as the vampire crouched low, its eyes fixed on something far below. Cassian could almost hear the creature’s heart pounding with excitement as it prepared to strike the lone-looking human figure that wandered in the darkness of the night.
Alarmingly, Cassian’s gaze shifted from Elijah to the lone boy who looked no older than seventeen as he walked ahead, oblivious to the haunting eyes that followed him like a hawk.
Before Cassian could come up with a stable decision on how to help, the figure in a black-colored hoodie leapt down from the roof to the ground, its landing was impossibly silent that Cassian barely detected a sound, except for the little swift movement of the wind that accompanied his landing.
"How on Earth did he do that?" Bewildered, Cassian muttered those questions under his breath.
The figure silently followed its prey, waiting for the perfect time to ambush him mercilessly when unexpectedly, he felt something hard hit him in his back.
Cassian had picked up a stone. He aimed it at the figure and threw it at him, watching as the stone he threw hit Elijah straight in his back, and he nearly pumped a fist in the air at the clear hit.
However, his attack had interrupted the vampire’s stealth mode, alerting his prey who turned around to see that he was being followed. Out of fear, he screamed and took to his heel, and before Elijah could go after him, Cassian picked up another stone he found and threw it at Elijah in an attempt to distract him.
Irritated, Elijah swiftly turned around to see the human who dared to interrupt his hunt. It was another figure wearing a brown cloak.
"You..!!.."
Before Cassian could react - with a speed that he never knew existed, Elijah moved and suddenly pounced on him, sending the two of them falling to the ground and he got on top of Cassian. He brought out his twin sword, ready to slit Cassian’s neck with it but the young lad placed his hand against the edge, stopping it from coming in contact with his neck.
"Get off me!!!" Cassian struggled to push Elijah off him along with his blade, but he had to admit that the vampire was impossibly tough as an old boot.
"You interrupted my feast!" Elijah scowled at the human whose face was covered with a cloak... "what sort of human would dare to...!!.."
He took off Cassian’s cloak, revealing the face of the human that had the audacity to fight back, and Elijah froze after seeing the familiar charming face that hid beneath the cloak.
"Hold on...I know you."
Taking advantage of his distraction, Cassian gave him a head butt on the head, throwing Elijah off him while quickly rising to his feet to keep a safe distance between the vampire, whilst staggering back as he was also affected by the head collision.
Elijah, who was stunned by the move, unsteadily got to his feet as his head was still spinning. "I can’t remember the last time someone used that amount of energy on me." After steadying himself, he looked at Cassian who cautiously reached to grab his cloak that Elijah disrespectfully took off from his head.
"I’m not here to fight with you." Cassian made his intentions known to Elijah who smirked in return.
"Now where’s all the fun... we met again after our wonderful last encounter, and I thought we were going to keep this interesting, hmmn..I still smell human blood on you, did my test not work?" Elijah cocked his head to the side, a bit surprised to see the human alive, but there’s still traces of human blood running through his veins.
"Can we talk?"
"Who said talking with me was going to be that easy? First, you have to earn the right to talk with me." With his two identical blades in his grasp, he threw Cassian one of the blades, and the young lad watched it clatter to the ground in front of him.
"First one to make the other bleed calls the first shot." Elijah made a preposition. "I told you I never fight humans, but you’re very interesting which is why I am bringing forth this little entreaty... now pick up the sword."
