Chapter 65: Fire! [1]

Chapter 65: Fire! [1]

"If you all wanna chicken out about going back to the surface, be my guest. But you should know one thing, ever since you guys became bio-genetics, your fate has been sealed" Anzai said sternly. There was no other way to see it or think about it, this was a truth that they all had to bravely face, starting now. No one said this was gonna be easy for any of them.

Hiro’s body trembled but not out of fear. "Are you saying..." Hiro hissed.

Anzai’s eyes drifted to him. Hiro’s ferocious looks faced him, his teeth in a tight clench.

"Whether we die or not it doesn’t matter?! We are meant to die?!".

"No," Anzai said sternly, his words clear and intense.

"You have got to be kidding me, it’s obvious what you are saying," Shino said as his fist tightened. Others nodded in agreement.

Anzai removed the cigar from his lips, as he blew a smoke air, there was a long pause before a smile graced his lips.

"In order words, you guys are the hope of humanity, the saviors of mankind," Anzai said amused.

They froze

"Hope, saviors," Haya said with shaky eyes.

"We are just scared kids, kids who lost their loved ones, why should we matter" she adds with a dark expression.

"We have never mattered," she said as her eyes grew wistful with memories of the past. Why should they now? Because they were different? A sudden change could create such a fate for them? The world WAS tricky.

"Becoming bio-genetics must have been a pain worse than death, you hate it, you resent it, you hate you have to be used by the government," Anzai said, clearly speaking their feelings as if they were his own.

Their look darkened, feeling the gravity of his words on them.

"But the way I see it, you guys were given a chance to save the world," Anzai said, putting the cigar back on his lips.

They ran pale at his words.

"In other words, only you guys can stand a chance against the Kaijus. The last time you guys went out on the surface, you were damn well not prepared at all" he adds. And his insides itched about it, but now he was here and everything will change, he will surely make them more than just test subjects sent out to die.

"You were trained as bio-genetics, not as a true soldier," he said again.

They all stared at with shaky eyes.

"Out of 99 bio-genetics only 51 survived" he adds, pissed at the number, it was evident in his tone, and his red eyes beaming.

"So tell me, kids," Anzai said as his looks darkened, he stared at them with his scary reddish-brown eyes that held anger.

"Are you just gonna let fate be cruel and let the wills of time determine when you will go and stay, or you just gonna fight for the sake of millions of civilians on the base, paving a way for them to reclaim the surface" he states.

There was a minute of silence in the classroom hall, a prolonged pause at his words, not a single action could be seen.

Tori observed the situation closely, his eyes fixed on the bio-genetics. ’By the looks on their faces’. Tori thought, smiling. ’Anazi-san’s words reached them, he made them see the other way around rather than just being bio-genetics. The hope of Millions of civilians on their hands. The saviors of mankind’. Tori thought amused as he closed his eyes and then opened them. He trusts Anzai’s words will give them the fire they need, he trusts his words will make them think something far better than being test subjects, he trusts his methods and he could see that now. A smile pressed against his lips, General Anzai was the only man that could lead the Bio-genetics.

’Dad served the country’. Shino thought with a look of determination. ’He served to protect billions of citizens in Tokyo, he was a true soldier’ Shino thought as his fist tightened, an image of Kimura Haruto flashed in his head, the man he always looked up to and who he strives to become, could this be it? His teeth clenched, he didn’t wanna see those he cared about die again!

’Hope, saviors’. Hiro’s fist tightens. ’Ha, I see it now..’. He thought remembering how useless he felt when he couldn’t do anything with his eyes, he felt so left out that he couldn’t protect anymore. ’I’m weak’, he thought with clenched teeth. ’I don’t wanna feel that way... I have to get stronger, stronger to find the truth’ His eyes shook. ’And protect my comrades’. his grip tightened on the stance more. ’No more running away Hiro!’ his jaw tightened. ’No more looking the other way like it didn’t matter’ his head flashed when he was peeking at his dad’s basement, seeing him fix his gun and how he grew angry because he was holding stuff like that as he walked away.

Hiro understood all that now, he understood it perfectly, his dad was protecting the country and he was too foolish not to see it.

’My family was taken away from me’. Ten thoughts. ’My little sister’. His eyes shake. ’I wasn’t able to spend more time with them. I can’t even walk the surface in peace again’. His fist tightens. ’I was always scared, I never took meaning to the full things around’. A memory of him always being bullied in junior high flashed in his head, how he always cried, and then a smiling Kaiyo, his eyes shaking at the sudden memory of her but then it laced in seriousness. ’But that will change now because I have comrades... No... I have friends’ His glasses shone white, and if it meant protecting them he would become stronger, no one had to suffer the same fate they did. There were millions of Civilians in this base and they were their hope of survival.
