Chapter 268: Maze Runners

Yuki’s fist clenched hard, right now he was doing it again, he wants to go off on his own again, it wasn’t like it was the only option right now.

"Fine then! If you wanna go off on your own so badly then do it!" she barked.

Hiro was in awe of her sudden outburst, it was unlike Yuki and he didn’t expect it, confusion flushed his features.

"Yu..ki?".

Shino nervously looked between the two, this was really awkward for him right now.

Yuki looks darken, her body trembling, her fist clenched hard.

’Yuki?’ Hiro thought as his blind eyes trembled, he could feel her aura... she seemed hurt? Why?

In silence, she swirled sauntering away.

"Hey, Yuki! Don’t mind Hiro okay? Let’s move together" Shino offered.

She came to a halt.

"Commander Shino..." she began, Shino shivers when he heard her tone, he hope he didn’t stir the flame.

"Let’s go separately" those were her words as she followed a path, disappearing out of sight.

"Hey, Hiro!" Shino barked.

"You got her upset!"

"What? I didn’t! She’s just getting angry on her own" he defended, it couldn’t be him, right?

Shino sighs.

"Idiot Hiro... you don’t get a thing do you?" he said suddenly remembering that day during the outbreak, he knew she was hurt then when Hiro said she shouldn’t follow.

"I think she’s angry at you Hiro," he said in a serious tone.

Hiro’s body stiffens at his words.

"That not it" he murmured.

Shino sighs once again, shaking his head.

"Well whatever is going on with you, you better fix it, you’re the man"

Hiro sweat drop behind his head. "Says the guy who got dumped"

"Watch it!" Shino barked with white eyes.

"You are such a pain" he adds with a sigh.

Yuki walked alone on the path with a dark expression, she came to a halt.

"Idiot Hiro" she cursed silently as her eyes trembled, she pulled some strands of her hair behind her ear.

Suddenly she sensed a presence, she looked around in alert but there was nothing, she was super sure she felt something lingering in the dark.

Control Tower

"Now for the main course," Anzai said with a smirk.

"Ready Touka?"

"Mm,"

’Where is it?’ Yuki thought still seeking for the unknown presence, ’I can feel it but I can’t tell where it’s coming from...’ her eyes moved, her lips then pressed in a thin line. ’Or is it nothing... my mind playing tricks on me?’, her eyes changed to her bio-genetics ones instantly, the iris color changed to bright crystal blue like a diamond of mixed shade of light and dark with a hint of red lines in it, forming a crack moving around, the pupil darkens more and extended.

’No!’ she turned instantly because she knew and felt it coming. ’Here it comes!’

Suddenly a path opened from the wall as a robotic dog launched out, about the size of a Kaiju, made of black metal and wires, eyes crimson and dangerous metal fangs, this was like the Alpha they trained with back in Fukuoka probably close to it but Yuki knew this was better.... this felt better.

It snarled in a computer sound.

She knew it wasn’t about escaping the maze, seems like they would have to fight their way through WITHOUT blood weapons.

"Meat.... or beef.... ramen or rice, hmm... maybe both... just have to find my way outta here and its food!!!!" Kaneki said in a ringtone as he ran on the path with a big smile, he just couldn’t wait to eat something he was seriously starving, he could already picture the food that awaited him at the end of the maze.

"Delicious food" he sang with a big grin.

Suddenly he heard the wall open, dumbfounded he turned, and then his eyes went wild when a robotic dog launched at him, the head of the dog slammed his stomach hard, spit gushing out of his mouth at the impact.

The force pushes him backward as he slammed the ground hard while curling in pain holding onto his stomach.

The dog growled deeply.

"I-I w-was f-fucking starving," he said in a rasping voice as he forced his body up facing the dog with a dangerous look, his bio-genetics eyes beaming.

"And yet you got the guts to increase it!" he adds in a deadly tone.

The dog roared launching at him.

"You won’t get away with this!" he barked as with a punch the dog was sent flying across and then slamming the wall hard.

Kaneki drawled unstable breath. The dog got back on all fours with a shock of its head.

"I’m officially pissed!" his dead eyes shinned like a sniper as he launches at the dog in a heated battle.

Sumi, Mizuki, and Raiden backed each other, they were surrounded by about 10 dogs.

"Tsk! If only we had our blood weapon... this would have been over sooner" Sumi said irritated.

"Well, we don’t have a choice now do we? we have to fight our way out with our hands" Raiden said.

"Tsk!" she made a sound annoyed.

"Now now guys let’s have some fun," Mizuki said in amusement.

With a slam of her fist against the robot face, it was sent flying against the air and slamming the floor hard in pieces.

"Amazing... with just one hit," Ren said in awe.

"Hey dumb ass, keep your eyes on the target!" Mosu barked fighting off the robot.

Ren quickly turned as the robot launched at him, he quickly ducked missing the hit.

"They just keep coming," he said before dashing at the robot in a heated battle.

Control Tower

"Let’s see how they handle a fight against all odds when their blood weapon isn’t within reach," Anzai said sternly, the back of his hands against his jaw.

"And... how connected are they with their weapons that are actually closer than they think".

"Anzai," Touka said. He was really going out of the way to train them, not just because they were about to face the Queen, but there was another reason and she knew exactly what it was.

’Bio-genetics’ Anzai thought. ’Let me test your limits and see just how far you can break it... how far you can all survive... ALL of you’

Touka’s eyes trembled. ’Anzai... you want them to come back in one piece no matter what, you want them to avoid death’ her eyes on the verge of tears.

Yuki stood before the robotic dog she destroyed, her eyes beaming dangerously.

’No... this is not just some maze running... this is something more’ her fist tighten.

’It’s close I can feel it’ she closed her eyes, it was faint but she could feel it with every fiber of her bones, her blood weapon was close if she could just tell the direction of it.

Suddenly she gasp flashing her eyes open, in a panic she turned, she was too busy thinking that she forgot what danger lay, two robotic dogs had already launched at her.

Like a zap something pass her, a kick and a punch pushed them away, Hiro lands on his feet.

Yuki froze as her eyes went wide, staring at the back of Hiro.

"Hi..ro?" she said with trembling eyes.

"Yuki!" Shino called as he ran towards them.

"Ha thank goodness you’re okay," he said.

"Commander Shino?"

"Hiro sensed that you were in danger and the next I knew he just zapped away... pretty convenient for someone who wants to follow different paths" he adds the last part with a smirk.

An angry vein popped out of Hiro’s head.

’Hiro’ Yuki thought.

Hiro folded his arms, he cleared his throat.

"L-Lets just work together" he began.

"Besides these robots are tough to handle, its best we stick together"

A faint smile found her lips.

"Idiot"

"What?" Hiro said in awe.

"Hu!" she just made a sound looking away.

Shino’s sweat drops behind his head. ’This two...’ he thought with twitching eyebrows.

Suddenly they heard roars.

"More of them are coming," Hiro said in an alert.

"Hiro... there’s something you should know" Yuki began.

"Our blood weapon I think they are close, I can feel mine but I can’t tell the direction".

"What?" Shino said startled.

"I thought this was training without our blood weapons," Hiro said.

Yuki shook her head.

"I have been thinking about it ever since... even though General Anzai told us that this is just about finding our cafeteria, I think there’s more, I think he’s trying to teach us something"

Shino and Hiro were puzzled.

"Think about it.... breaking the wall, and now a maze filled with robots without our blood weapon, it’s sending a message... two different training but one message"

"A message," Hiro said with trembling eyes.

Control Tower

Anzai smirks. ’Smart girl... seems like she already figured it out...’ he thought in acknowledgment, he thought this would be proven harder for them but seems he thought wrong, these kids keep surprising him every chance they got.
