Chapter 178: Naming Ceremony. Part 2
The naming ceremony is a long-term process. It takes about a week to name a child god and the god of the name can only name a person once a week.
Viktor knew everything about the ceremony so he prepared beforehand. He also told Adonis about the ceremony rules so that he could prepare himself when the time comes.
The naming ceremony has three rituals.
The first one is baptism, the second one is bestowing a name and the last one is sacrificing a living being.
The ritual may sound like a normal friendly ritual but it’s not. One has to go through a hellish process to make his name listed on the void list as a god or a demigod.
It’s also the same for Viktor and the others.
The baptism period goes on for more than two days. In the first two days, the person has to drink the water that comes out of hell. Not only that, he has to endure the pain while taking a bath. Even though the gods and demigods do not feel pain, the water from hell is their only weakness. So the name god throws the person into the boiling water to teach them how painful is hell and that they should act as they are told.
The second ritual is also painful. Bestowing names might sound like it’s a very normal part of the ritual but in reality, it’s not.
The name that the person will select will be written on his body with a mana pen. It’s actually a god-type tattoo but it serves so many purposes. When a nameless god is bestowed with a name, he receives accurate knowledge of his powers and how to use them to create and rule territory.
The name that the person will choose is turned into a coded magic circle. After that, the god of name personally draws it on his back. It’s a really painful process.
And lastly, the sacrificing ritual. It might sound like a normal ritual where a person sacrifices objects or small animals to the temple as an offering.
But it’s totally wrong. In order to satisfy the god of names, one has to sacrifice their first love, or first follower or a very important person. But it has to be a person no matter what kind they are. An object can’t be offered to the god of names.
It’s the most difficult part of the ritual where most of the gods failed to meet all the requirements. This leads them to receive a smaller number of skills than they should’ve received.
Adonis didn’t have anyone whom he loved except for Viktor as his master. So, he had to select someone very important for the sacrificing ritual.
On the otherhand, Viktor kept quiet about the sacrificing part of the ritual from others. He wanted to see what Mors would do when he was asked to give a sacrifice to the temple.
The ritual ceremony was near.
Viktor walked out of the guest chambers to take a walk outside after a day of their arrival. He was too bored inside his room so he decided to see the underworld.
He then took a long overcoat that was also offered from the temple, wore it and opened the door.
Right at that moment, a small child with his face fully covered with a white mask said, "Dear guest, you’re not allowed to leave. Please go back inside."
Viktor looked at the floating book above its head. It was his first time seeing a book coloured white so he immediately knew that the child was a god.
He was just mimicking the form of a child and assisting Name. He then recalled the moment when Name told him about his visitors. He’s never alone in the underworld and so many gods are always visiting him to help him.
He knew that child was so much stronger than him so he stepped back a few steps. He couldn’t even open that child’s record book so he started to look through his future. What he found after that was something that he could never imagine. There was no way Viktor could win a fight with him because his divine Qi was so much higher than his.
Viktor was a little shocked.
The child smiled under its mask and said, "Today’s guests are too clever. Tell me, dear nameless demigod. Why do you want to leave the guest chambers? Do you not like our hospitality? Is something lacking?"
"No, everything is perfect. I wished to walk around the temple and the yard for a few hours. Is that not permissible?"
The child touched his masked face with one of his fingers. He then thought about it for some moment and said, "Well, if you’re not peeking into the ritual room, then it’s fine. But you can’t walk alone in this temple. You will lose your way back in no time."
Viktor knew something was off right after he stepped inside the temple. He couldn’t just throw off the feeling of someone watching him from everywhere.
But he couldn’t figure out what was causing it. So he kept quiet and waited for the right moment to take a walk outside.
Viktor followed the child patiently and kept looking back. He only took a few steps but the doorway to the guest room was not there.
It just magically vanished.
The child god then said, "Please don’t look back too much. You might lose your way and never find your way back."
"Why?" Viktor asked.
"Because the temple is a god itself. If it hates you for acting hastily, it might swallow you."
Viktor shut his mouth fully and got closer to the child god. He didn’t want to lose his way because in the future he had found himself running inside a maze for so many years. He was unable to use teleportation magic in the dark maze so it took him about 7 years to get out of there.
’Now I am more curious about this place. It is full of mysteries.’
Viktor then followed the child outside the temple and entered the garden. The garden was decorated with various types of plants so he asked the child, "Who takes care of this garden?"
The child replied, "Name takes care of it. They are all from the god realm, gifted to the temple. They say each of the plants has different magical effects. Some of them are also from hell. They are so poisonous that even if you touch them, your hand will start to rot. You have to cut them off to get rid of it."
Viktor looked at the poisonous plant and said, "So it’s a poison that can even work on god."
"Yes."
"Can I take one?"
"-_-. Let me ask Name because I don’t know if the guests are allowed to take plants from the garden. It’s our first time to see a guest showing interest in a mere plant after coming here. You sure are a weird demigod."
’Even though I can’t see his face, I am sure he is super confused. Looks like I’ve stomped on his pride.’
The child god then talked with name and then said, "Yes, the guests are allowed to take one or two plants from the garden."
’He’s sulking-_-, I can feel it-_-.’
Viktor then looked around at the endless garden behind the temple and suddenly something caught his eye. It was dark, small and it was emitting dark aura.
Viktor walked close to it and saw it was a small rose plant that had one dark rose blooming. The dark rose had a small orb in the middle of it.
Viktor leaned in front of the rose and said, "Do you know what kind of plant it is?"
The child approached him from behind and replied, "I don’t know. But if you want to take it, make sure you are taking full responsibility for it."
’Responsibility-_-?’ Viktor looked through his future again and saw the reason why the child talked about responsibilities. The child didn’t know that he had the ability to see through his future so he again said, "You can take that red one. Why take the ugly one when you have a beautiful one available?"
Viktor again looked through his future where he took the red rose and saw he suffered. So he smiled and said, "Never judge a book by its cover. I will be taking the ugly one. You can have the red one as a gift from me. I am sure you will love it."
The child kept his mouth sealed to prevent himself from beating Viktor to death. Bloodshed isn’t permissible between gods and demigods so he had to control his anger and keep escorting.
Viktor then walked all over the temple and visited Welis to say hi. Then he went inside the library but for not receive his name, he couldn’t read any words even after using his memories from his future.
They were all blurry.
Viktor slammed the book on the desk and said, "That’s it!! I’m going to attend my naming ceremony first."
The child took the book from the table and said, "Dear guest, it’s rude to show disrespectful behaviour inside the temple. Please calm your mind."
Viktor tilted his head at him and said, "Do you know how to read that book?"
"Um..yes?"
"Then teach me."
"I’m afraid I can’t do that before your naming ceremony. If I do that, I will break the laws of the temple. Please wait patiently."
Suddenly, he felt a sharp, irritating feeling from his back. He looked behind and saw nothing but he knew there was definitely someone who was trying to do something to him.
’This place is too suspicious. I am sure there is something surely going on here. I mean, why would everyone warn us not to peek inside the prayer room? And why do I feel this disturbing feeling ever since I’ve stepped foot inside? I have to gain more divine Qi to read this god’s record.’
