Chapter 175: Farewell

Chapter 175: Farewell

The temple of names, also known as the naming temple is the oldest and the first thing that came into existence. There lives a god that performs the ritual of the naming ceremony.

Nobody, not even the god of names, knows when he was born. One day, he just realised that he had to name all those unknown babies walking around the temple. He doesn’t even know where and why those babies were inside his temple at first.

These were the earliest memories of the god of names whose name is ’Name’ itself. His job was to name all those unknown babies inside his temple.

Name, the god of names is a being that doesn’t have a human appearance. He is tall as a giant and skinny as a pine tree. He doesn’t have any legs and has tentacles instead. His face is long and has huge long red eyes in the middle of two dark craters on the lower part. His appearance is terrifying but he’s the kindest god. Newbie babies have the tendency to cry after looking at his abnormal physical form, so he wears a long white dress that covers his whole body.

But still, his face is scary as hell.

A naming ceremony is a ritual that he performs every weekend. Outside the mortal realm, Friday is regarded as the weekend so Name prepares for the ceremony every Friday even though there is no visitor. And he is so patient that he can wait for thousands of years just to name a child.

’I guess Name is already preparing for the next ritual.’

Viktor closed Name’s record and put that back in his library. After his mother’s death, he walked around the whole city for 3 days and came back to his home.

He was preparing to leave the mortal realm with everyone and that’s when he thought that he should read Name’s record.

Viktor doesn’t have any access to all gods except for the one who created him before. But after he gained Divine Qi, he was able to look through some lower god’s records whose divine Qi was at the same level or lower as his.

Name was also on the list.

’But sadly, I couldn’t find the beginning of his records. His book is the weirdest book of all. Usually, books have a cover, an index and the first memories recorded inside. But his book looks very different. His book does not contain any cover, an index or any beginning memory record. It’s just a book without a cover and it doesn’t have any starting. Its pages are also infinite so it’s nearly impossible for me to finish it. I don’t even know where to start, let alone finish it.’

Viktor then called for Adonis from his study chamber and said, "Have you convinced Ifrit?"

"Yes, master. He told me that he will take over the territory since the seat is already empty. He also says that beggars can’t be choosers."

"Well, he’s not wrong. He should be glad that a huge territory is currently empty. The goddess of holiness left the realms because of her wishes. These realms are going to vanish soon if there’s no god holding its power. The guardians in the realm of guardians can hold it for only a few thousand years, after that, it’s over."

"So master, why did you select Ifrit as the ruler of this realm? In my opinion, Mors was the most suitable one for this job. He is calm, has a better understanding of everything and is quick-witted."

"I agree. But Mors has a different plan in his mind. He won’t be satisfied with this empty seat. He isn’t suitable for this post at all. So it’s best to give the realm to Ifrit so that he can regain his previous divine Qi. By achieving that, he can request a duel and complaint about his situation to the king of gods against her. You see, Ifrit is dying to get his revenge. And he’s a great ruler who had ruled hell before for billions of years. Leaving this territory to him is the best idea after all."

Adonis bowed and said, "I apologise for my foolishness, master."

"-_-, why are you apologizing? Stand up. Your opinion isn’t a foolish one. It’s just I’m trying to get a hold of the full grasp of the situation by leaving the work to Ifrit. He might be hot-headed and a tyrant, but as a ruler, I can’t think of Mors as the worthy one."

"I respect my master’s decisions. Oh, I also have something to give you. It’s from Astraeus, he wrote a letter to you this morning."

Adonis took the letter out of the inner pocket of his coat and put that on the table. He then said, "He wants to say something. I hope you pay him a visit soon in my dimensional room."

Viktor was surprised to receive a letter from him for the first time. He opened it and started to read. It was a letter to a demigod as a humble servant.

’So he’s planning to become one of my followers and live in a distant land. And he wants me to erase his memories as a guardian. His handwriting looks like he’s on the verge of losing his mind finally."

Adonis cleared his throat and replied, "He received a heavy mental shock that he’s unable to do anything by himself. The clones are currently taking care of him."

"That’s why he wants to forget everything and live as a human somewhere far away. I guess I’ve been too harsh on him."

Viktor burned the letter in his hands and turned it into ash. He then said, "I want to talk to him. Open your dimension room, Adonis."

"As you command, master." Adonis raised his hand and made a dark rotating portal in the room. It was the way to his dimensional prison where the both of them entered.

The moment they had entered, the four knights bowed and said, "Welcome to our quarter, my lord."

Viktor nodded his head and walked straight into Ray’s room. His room was sealed with multiple barriers and traps to prevent him from running away when he suffers from an anxiety attack.

"Rae, I’m coming in," Viktor entered the room and saw Rae gazing at the ceiling. He couldn’t hear him coming so Viktor walked closer to him and grabbed his shoulder from behind. "I’ve come to see you."

"Viktor, is that you?" Rae asked.

"Yes. So, what do you want to ask for?"

"Viktor, remember that time when you grabbed my body instead of giving me a gold coin near the well?"

"Yes, I remember."

"We were good friends back then. We used to sleep like there was no tomorrow. We used to beat that little kid’s a** everyday. I owed you a lot of money because I was basically a freeloader."

"Yes, you were so annoying back then."

"Those were the golden days of my life. But, sadly, I want you to erase all of them and rewrite my memories. I don’t think my mind can’t take it anymore. I feel like something very dark and empty has formed inside my soul that will eat me alive for eternity."

"You won’t be able to remember anything if I do that," Viktor said.

"I won’t regret anything, my friend. Please, accept this last request from me. Let my current self rest in peace."

Viktor then pushed the wheelchair out of the room and said, "Adonis, opened the gate. I want to take him outside now."

"Yes, master."

Viktor then took Rae outside to show him the sunset from the mountains. It was cold so Viktor used warm barrier magic on Rae. Since Rae had lost his guardian fragment, he was on the same level as a 9th-class magician. So the extreme cold and low oxygen were affecting him.

"How are you feeling now, can you breathe?"

"I can."

"Do you like sunsets?" Viktor asked.

"I’ve always liked the sky and the stars. I could feel them running through my blood. Sadly, I can no longer feel anything in my body. It’s empty now"

Viktor kept shut for some moment and then said, "Where do you want to live?" He then looked at Rae’s face and saw the desperate look on it. The dark circles under his eyes were so dark that his dark eyes became one with them.

The dead reaction on his face was so intense that he looked like he was already dead.

It was the effect of the dark room punishment for billions of years. It was a miracle that his brain was processing well enough to have a conversation with another person.

He was a strong person.

"Rae, where do you want to live?" Viktor again asked, "I don’t want you to become my follower for exchange. I’d rather like you to live on as a normal human somewhere and forget everything about me. What do you think?"

"If my friend wishes for that, I’ll gladly accept it."

Viktor smiled softly and replied,

"Well then, Astraeus Light. I hope you live a good life. Farewell, my dear friend."

Viktor opened Rae’s record book and erased everything. The name Astraeus Light vanished from the record of living beings. He was no longer a guardian, a friend of Viktor or a criminal who suffered hellish punishment.

But deep inside Viktor’s heart, Astraeus Light will always stay alive as a friend.

’I hope you find happiness in your new life, Rae.’ Viktor then left him on a grassland of a distant planet and left using the portal.
