Chapter 957: The Path of an Expert
Chapter 957: The Path of an Expert
Three days later.
Ling Feng bid farewell to a few friends and prepared to set off for the southern region of the empire.
The members of Tianwei Academy were naturally reluctant to see Ling Feng go, but they also understood that with his current talent, staying at the academy would only hold him back.
There were no lingering words or farewell ceremonies. When the time came to leave, Ling Feng brought Tuoba Yan with him and departed directly from the general's mansion, leaving the capital of the Tianbai Emperor behind.
He had already created a legend in this place, but this was only the first step on the path of an expert.
Soon, the two of them arrived at the southern gate of the imperial capital. Ling Feng paused at the gate and let out a soft sigh.
"The path of an expert is destined to be a lonely one!"
He raised his eyebrows slightly and glanced at Tuoba Yan beside him.
At the very least, he still had this "maid" by his side. That was better than traveling alone.
"Ling Feng, you and I haven't settled our match yet. What, are you trying to shake me off already?"
Just then, a figure in flowing purple robes stepped out from beneath the gate tower. In his arms he held a gleaming treasured sword, and a slight smile curled at the corners of his lips.
"Bufan?"
Ling Feng's eyelids twitched. He hadn't expected this guy to be waiting here for him.
"Hehe, Big Brother, I'm here too!"
Another figure emerged from the shadows under the gate. It was none other than Jiang Xiaofan.
"Xiaofan?" Ling Feng squinted slightly. "Weren't you cultivating at Flame Valley with Senior Sword Maniac?"
"I finished my training and came straight to find you, Big Brother!"
Jiang Xiaofan scratched the back of his head and grinned. "It's a good thing I ran into Bufan, or I wouldn't have known you were leaving the imperial capital. Since you're heading to Nanjiang, I'm going with you. I already said that this life of mine was given to me by you, Big Brother!"
"You rascal!" Ling Feng gave him a firm slap on the shoulder. "I originally planned to bring you along, but since you were cultivating at Flame Valley, I didn't bother going to find you. Now that Senior Sword Maniac has let you out, you're more than welcome to come!"
After all, Jiang Xiaofan was a freak who had refined the Xuanwu blood. Having a brother like him fighting alongside could only be a good thing.
"And I'm coming too!"
A young woman carrying a black kitten stepped forward with a gentle smile on her face.
"Big Brother Ling, if you're heading to Nanjiang to gain experience, can I come as well?"
This young woman was none other than Mu Qianxue.
Tuoba Yan glanced at Mu Qianxue, and a soft smile appeared on her face. At some point, the relationship between the two women had become surprisingly harmonious.
"You lot..."
Ling Feng looked at them one by one, then broke into hearty laughter.
"Haha! Looks like the Tianfeng Sword Team is back together again after all!"
"It's a shame that Captain Gu and the others went to join the Northwestern Army."
Jiang Xiaofan turned to Ling Feng, looking puzzled.
"Big Brother, wasn't the commander-in-chief treating you pretty well? Why are we going to the Southern Army instead of the Northwestern Army?"
"Do you remember Feng Mo?"
Ling Feng gestured casually and spoke in a calm tone.
"Big Brother Feng?" Jiang Xiaofan nodded. "Isn't he the Ninth Prince?"
"Mm-hmm. He reached out to me long ago. He's now stationed in Nanjiang as the army supervisor. I promised him I'd go help out. Besides, I have some personal matters to handle there as well."
Ling Feng didn't mention anything about the Silver Wolf Demon Emperor. If he did, it would probably scare the others out of their wits.
"I see."
Li Bufan pondered for a moment, then said slowly, "Brother Ling, are you planning to get involved in the struggle for the throne between the Ninth Prince and the Fourth Prince?"
As the son of the grand commandant, Li Bufan had never taken much interest in politics, but being raised in such an environment meant he had still picked up a fair amount. He knew the emperor had sent the Ninth Prince to Nanjiang precisely to help him build influence in the military, so that he could rival the Fourth Prince.
In the end, there would no doubt be a fierce struggle for succession. Li Bufan hadn't expected Ling Feng to choose a side so early.
"I'm not interested in any throne struggle." Ling Feng raised an eyebrow. "All I know is that the Ninth Prince is a good brother of mine!"
Li Bufan nodded slightly. He understood that Ling Feng's mind wasn't set on such matters. In this, they were alike.
What they pursued was the peak of the martial path.
"Let's go." Ling Feng smiled freely. "The martial path isn't as lonely as I imagined. At least I have good friends like all of you."
"Hehe!" Jiang Xiaofan scratched the back of his head and laughed foolishly.
Mu Qianxue, on the other hand, gently pressed her lips together. She seemed to have something on her mind.
Just as they were about to set off, a frantic voice called out from behind. A girl in green dashed toward them at full speed, shouting loudly, "Wait for me, Ling Feng!"
Everyone turned to look. The girl running toward them was none other than Lin Xian'er.
Ling Feng frowned. To avoid trouble, he had deliberately kept his departure quiet. He hadn't told many people and had even asked Su Hongxiu to send Lin Xian'er a message, asking her to help look after matters in the Divine Ling Sect.
He hadn't expected her to catch up anyway.
Most likely, that old man Tong Chengtai had tipped her off.
"Huff... huff... huff..."
Lin Xian'er was panting heavily. Judging by her outfit, she was clearly prepared to join them on the road.
"Xian'er, what are you doing here?"
Ling Feng gave a wry smile. Her strength was quite a bit lower than that of the other members of the Tianfeng Sword Team. She was better off staying at Tianwei Academy to continue cultivating.
"You're one to talk!"
Lin Xian'er shot him a glare. "You're leaving, and you didn't even tell me?"
Ling Feng rubbed the bridge of his nose. "I just got a little caught up, that's all. So... are you planning to come with us?"
"Of course I am." Lin Xian'er clenched her fists and bit her lip. "I've already said goodbye to my teacher. Everything's ready. I'm going with you!"
"..."
Ling Feng looked at her determined expression and couldn't bring himself to dampen her enthusiasm. He nodded slightly.
"All right. Besides, our master(Duanmu Qingshan) sent a message recently. He's already in Nanjiang. With any luck, you might be reunited with your father on this trip."
Lin Xian'er bit her lip and gave Ling Feng a resentful look. Seriously? That's all you think about?
Still, she had managed to join the journey. In time, she would have the chance to make Ling Feng understand how she felt.
...
Up on the city wall, a young man watched from afar as Ling Feng and his companions walked away. He raised a hand to cover his right eye and slowly shook his head.
"Fate is inescapable. No matter where you go, it will always be the same."
In the next instant, his figure vanished from the tower and flew south, as if he had never been there at all.
If Ling Feng and the others had been present, they would have recognized him immediately. That youth was none other than Night Weiyang.
(Author's Note: Night Weiyang was introduced previously in Chapter 621: Because I Want to Protect You and again in Chapter 664: Jiuli Divine Clan. He will play a key role in revealing Mu Qianxue's true identity, so keep an eye on him.
Also, don't forget, the Blood Sword Heavenly Lord, Li Qingling, and the Demon-Masked Lord, Lin Canglang, are both currently in Nanjiang.)
